I'm thinking of using this as a rudimentary extender down a 3/4 mile driveway. Am I correct in understanding that you cannot simply point one of these out, and then pick up wireless signal from within its range, but rather you need to point it at another one and then have the far one connected to a router or something? Thanks!

First you are correct. These are a bridge style device. You need two ends so one at each end of your 3/4 mile road. I used these for a while, maybe a year, but in the end the mount I was using broke while I was out of town and one side hung inside down allowing rain to get in killing the box. I went back to the Unifi WiFi bridge. The TP link has basically no "nerd knobs" where the UniFi does. I know there are a lot of others out there as well but I just went back to what I had before along with a better mount.

@@tlchomestead Thanks for taking the time to reply. Liked and Subbed 👍.
Off the top of your head, what nerd knobs in particular? I'm an IT professional but I have a heck of a lot to learn still...

I'll give a minor disclamer that I have >30yr in IT with the last 25 being in network world with a focus around route/switch, troubleshooting and network monitoring so I have a high desire to see as many stats as I can :D
The TP link has a very minimual web interface you can see maybe five things. It has been a while but I remember not much at all and being disappointed. The one plus the TP link had was you can look at the side of the physical unit and see the signal strength bars, if it was dark outside. Now, the Ubiquiti was much more details about signal strength, setup options (P2P, P2MP, base AP, etc) along with it has a 2nd RJ45 (passthrough) you can use if you wanted to -- think about putting an AP close to the bridge to add outdoor WiFi somewhere. This came in handy for me so I could add an outdoor AP and get signal to my RV for when folks where visiting. Also, if you run the UniFi ecosystem this *sort of* ties into the map shown on their controllers. Not perfectly but it gives an idea.
Now, I have BIG changes coming this year and will make videos as I go through this process. We are building a new house and I will be redoing my network as part of it. And, I will ahve to extend my network from teh new house to my cabin so we shall see where I land with everything :)

Sorry, I am not sure of how far they will go. I was going about 350' and it was full bars. I will say I pulled them out of service. I wanted more nerd knobs to play with and TP link is very basic on that front. They worked fine, just not a lot of details like I am used to.

Lazy? Not following. As in I should bury a cable? I guess I could install some fiber and that would work here but when I expand to top of my hill I do nto want to trench that path :)
I will add that the TP link worked up until I removed it. TP link just did not have enough features. I love nerd knobs and TP link lacks. I went back to Unifi products.
