It seems that (not just the auto industry) that once a company has your money warranties are next to worthless. I've had similar issues with 'home owners' warranties. Insurance agencies play a similar game where once you have your premium they will cut any corners they can to avoid paying out claims. Certain types of insurance is unavoidable to have to purchase but in general if you can avoid it on products known to depreciate you'll be better off.
Bought a 'certified pre-owned' pickup truck from my local dealer. Four years old, 38,000 miles. Got home with it, did my own checkup of all the fluids, etc.etc. Checked the brake fluid reservoir.....it was EMPTY. On the way home, I noticed the brakes were a little spongey, and I found out why. Took it right back to the dealer. They topped off the brake fluid, told me they looked for leaks but found none, and sent me on my way. Never again will I spend extra money on 'certified pre-owned' crap.
@@72capri I paid the dealership a premium for their so-called "54 point Vehicle Safety Inspection/Check up", to do that very thing, which should have included checking the damned brake fluid. What planet did you come from? You must be voting for Tampon Time and the Cackler !!!!
A friend of mine traded his car. Before he left the dealership, he saw his car sitting in the lot with a for sale sign on it. Certified that it moves 25 feet into a parking spot.
Scotty's right about new vehicle Dealer mechanics vs their used lot mechanics. Often the used lots are serviced by non-ASE mechanics....not always bad at their jobs, but definitely not the pros either.
I don't know about the newer ones, but my 2012 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crew cab, is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. I've put nothing into this truck except for keeping up with regular maintenance. It may not be fancy, but it does what it should every time I turn the key.
just means the FACTORY warrantiy is validated IMO purely from a buying standpoint. You the would be 5/7 year etc + miles on powertrain reattained via any manufacturer/certified p/o vehicles. OFC still locked to manufactured/year opposed to date of purchase for any perspective buyer. IMO when its the difference of a coupe thouseand...its largely worth it to anyone buying/interested in buying a "luxury" car brand...bc the warranty/maintenence is already costly and ANY issue within a small window of ownership post/assembly LINE IMO should definitely be rectified by manufacturer. Sure its already pretty dumb to run a factory turbo/luxury car bc of future oil/gasket issues as many display. But imagine getting a non pre-ownedcertified bmw/audi/vw and it craps out within 5 years of coming off the line....and the second owner is now UBER screwed vs buying a potentially 2-3000$ more expensive "certified" option that they can now leverage the dealership over via manufacturer warranty....to anyone else..esp when buying a PROVEN platform...certified is pretty much a waste of $$$ unless the owner isnt maintenence inclined potentially a woman with all respect to that regard...or say your daughter thats a student out of state etc that needs to work/have a car. If pppl think certfied means "new" thats a mental error of semantics at that point and even worse if the delearship is taking advantage of someones dimwitted outlook of SURELY everything i spend my money on is good for ME if it sounds like it XD. STILL given the CVT cycle/market id consider a CPO honda etc brand even just bc some CVT crap out pretty early into lifetime as well....as turbo leaks/gasket/oil issues even with their line of 1.5-2.0turbos.
CPO vehicles often come with their own special warranty, especially the Nissans. I think CPO Nissans come with something like a 7yr/100,000 mile warranty.
My brothers new 2023 Toyota Tundra is in the shop for 2 months now as the engine blew up! Very common Toyota Tech said... He had the rusty frame Tacoma (2013) and said no more Toyota's, then he changed his mind and well..This time he is done,he is buying older trucks from now on.He had to buy a used truck to WORK!! No loaner cars or TRUCKS people need TRUCKS for work!! He picked up a 2006 Dodge RAM 2500 single cab 4x4 with a 5.7 Hemi with 212,000 original miles and its running like a top..$6500 truck single cab long box ex city truck..He is looking for a lower mile used one for under 14k..needs a 4 door,4x4 etc..Dodge Ram or OLDER Toyota(maybe a V8 Tundra maybe he is leery). He had a 2001 Tundra that was good until 160,000 before the engine failed (was using oil for about 40,000k)the transmission went out at 130,000 average for trucks of all makes when towing. Was good truck and he keeps them looking mint.He had a 1991 Dodge Ram 250 in the 90's to 2001 that had the 360 aka 5.9 V8 engine never had an issue trans went out around the mileage of the Toyota..I know that truck had well over 200,000 closer to 300,000 it kept going and going until it was t boned! So he reverted back to Dodge/RAM when his 2023 Tundra died, albeit a older truck.
The new Toyota Tundra trucks have a turbocharged engine. That's a bad idea from the get-go they should have just put a V8 in it. Turbocharged engines have more internal engine pressure which makes them wear out sooner. Never ever buy anything with a turbocharged engine
I remember when Nissans were really good. They were about as good as a Toyota or Honda and you could usually get them for a little less money. Nissan didn't upgrade Renault, Renault brought Nissan down to their level.
Scotty need to correct you on the train power system, a train today is diesel/electric. There is a large diesel motor which powers a huge generator and the train also has 2 battery banks. When one battery draws down to a certain capacity, the second battery bank kicks in and the diesel generator charges the 1st battery bank. This continues back and forth, that is why when people see diesel exhaust they assume it is a diesel powered train, it is not. They Edison semi built by a Canadian logger runs on the diesel/electric train system.
@@josephkelleher8820 toyota voluntary replacing 100,000 engines, they don't mess around like other companies. They made a mistake now they are fixing it.
@@owen7412lots of brands do this when you go to the dealer. I find with VW if I have to create a tech line case to diagnose an issue they will try and goodwill the repair up to 35k out of warranty.
The worst warranties advertised today is from Kia and Hyundai. The 10 year 100k mile warranty is a joke. Very few have benefited from this, with majority of Kia and Hyundai owners stuck with thousands of dollars in repair costs the manufacturer refuses to correct.
A spot weld is easy to see if it fails or is missing but a running weld could be behind an integral part of the chassis . Those welds secure important joints so no unless it is obvious .Do you watch those motor bike builders ? They grind down the welds and paint or chrome over them so they are invisible .
I’ve seen a lot of solid Frontiers lasting pretty much as well as a Toyota in the same vintage. There was an ‘07 that somehow failed in such a way that it mixed coolant and transmission fluid, stupid thing and that sucks, so that unfortunate friend wasn’t a fan after that. But basically all the others, going back a very long time and until recently, were good.
I keep seen Kias and hyundais having motor issues. Specially on the burning oil cresting sludge department. If I was a Korean car owner I would be changing oil every 3k miles. Don't go by what the manual says the manual is there to make sure you fail and keep the parts department liquid. My wifes mercedes says change oil every 10k miles so I do 5k. I see the manual and cut it in half. My mercedes is about to touch 200k next year. No issues.
My father brand new car 1976 Chevy Impala was delivery without oil plug for differential and we paid $445.00 dealer prep at the dealer and they promised a full hub cap and gave us a cheap junk cap. When we asked for the promised hub cap the dealer want us to pay $44.00 six week later. The delivery dealer prep was washing car, and all fluid level are filled and checked by mechanic at the dealer.
Pre-owned inspection means nothing unless they hand you "Thier" pre-owned certificated Guarantee that specifies the inspection points and that they will cover them against failure.
With a modern flash boiler I can't see a problem but steam needs energy .This is how we could learn from the oldies .The Stanley steamer capable of over a hundred miles an hour once steamed up.The fuel for most was kero but is it cheaper in bulk than petrol?
Nissan used to built decent cars and trucks. It all started going downhill around 2012 or later. Now, they are good for maybe 100,000km before major repairs are required. Mazda is a good buy these days. Kia and Hyundai have gone to the dogs and all the "prestige" cars fall apart after 50-70km. Y neighbour's used Porsche Macan (2021) is in the garage again for a brake job. It's 400+ for an oil change how much is the brake job?
Well why don't they cut all the computer stuff. And people need to learn how to drive because if they can't parallel park they shouldn't even be on on the road.!.!
I had to parallel-park to get my license (They gave you three tries---I made it on the first attempt). I'm pretty rusty, since I haven't needed it for five years, and even back then it was maybe twice a year.
To be semi fair to those mechanics who certify pre-owned cars. Who looks to see if the manufacturer made the welds correct? When you check cars out to see if it's OK to buy. Do you look at welds scotty?
I've seen this guy with the Frontier with the missing weld, crying about his truck all over Facebook . I'm sure it sucks, but it's a one-off occurrence, and Nissan is repairing his truck. All manufacturers have instances like this.

Scotty will bring this one case up in millions of future videos . He never forgets unless it's bad news about Toyota's or Hondas
scotty im getting to old to change my oil, tough question where to get oil change? think dealer, but prices are higher and the guys that do the oil changes are not their best ,and for sure not a certified mechanic.
I had the idea for a home electrolysis, using tap water to produce hydrogen for heat, in lieu of expensive propane. You would only need to produce a few gallons for a day's use, any extra being compressed and stored in a tank. (I'm an MBA, not a Chem-E, so I have no idea how practical or complicated such a small-scale process would be).
You hear that phrase all the time certified pre owned , never trust any car lot used or new Chinese economy is in the Dump right now most car company warranties are worthless to start with it's like pulling nails out of concrete to get any car company service center to honor warranties .
Hold on... how is that even possible. I mean i get nissan quality is crap, but those welds are all done robotically. Are they not using adhesive or something? Missing welds has to be an .0000001% thing...
This is a used truck and probably was involved in an accident. The Nissan Frontier is still miles better than the overpriced junk trucks Toyota is putting out. Turbo 4 cylinder Tacoma’s where the transmissions are failing and tundras with the engines failing at 5000 miles lol.
China already has huge tariffs on foreign built cars. It can even be 100% on some models. That is why European, Japanese, American, etc. car companies usually partner with Chinese companies to build their in China, for the Chinese market. I am guessing that, another reason, some Western car companies do not want more tariffs on China, is because they will not be able to export their own Chinese built into the West, to compete with the cheap Chinese car (from Chinese companies) that may be sold in the West.
I just acquired a 1998 Nissan Frontier SE with the 2.4 liter 4-banger. No powerhouse for sure. Prior to my purchasing it, the truck has had a newly rebuilt front end, new distributor, rebuilt 5-speed transmission, transfer case rebuild (the previous owners never used it), and most recently (after a couple of days of my driving it) the engine's upper cam chain jumped time after 180K. The truck is currently in the shop getting the entire timing system replaced - not an inexpensive repair. I am really trying to like this truck; everyone I have talked to that owned this same year of truck had very positive comments so I am keeping the faith - at least for now.
Gee, just a few videos ago, you were slamming Hydrogen. I corrected you then and suggested you actually educate yourself. It is not that big of a deal to run sea water through a de-sal plant.
Tommy Boy: Here's how I see it. A guy puts a guarantee on the box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t.
How does a robot know if it misses a weld? It did the prearranged movement so it's happy. Imagine if you turn on your vacuum without the bag. It will happily spread dirt everywhere.
For sure China can't build a properly good reliable normally aspirated engine as the Japanese, so they went the battery route, but it seems they don't do long term tests for parts especially the underbody like chassis, suspension parts. Saw some videos they use low grade metals on some of these vehicles.
How does this guy even know that welds are missing? full frame vehicle has " missing welds" maybe its by design. Depends on configuration of cab, bed , power train. Im sure joe shmo knows about where ther should and should not be welds .
The Chinese cars have a large tariffs. If you go buy plates for a gasoline engine car, it will cost you as much as the car itself for the plates. They're electric cars don't have These taxes, That's the reason why foreign cars are not selling there

I love the generous power train warranties…. The power trains hardly ever go …. It’s a “feel good warrenty”
I don't know about the newer ones, but my 2012 Nissan Frontier 4x4 crew cab, is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. I've put nothing into this truck except for keeping up with regular maintenance. It may not be fancy, but it does what it should every time I turn the key.
2012 you say? Yeah those were the days. Quality products are gone forever

I totally agree
I had a 1993 hardbody 4 cylinder 5 spd manual . loved it . Gave me 13 trouble free years and 180k milies, only lost out to rust
Scotty has said in previous videos that the frontier are pretty reliable. Compared to their cars

I'm sure he was referring to new ones. A lot of newer vehicle are junk.
Scottys show is so informative meanwhile, so funny. He gives me several good laughs a day.
It's a good thing there are some people who are willing to buy new technology before it's fully mature otherwise we'd never have any new technology
The difference between a trail blazer and a pioneer is the number of arrows in his back.
All Certified Pre-Owned means is they checked, and it's NOT NEW. lol
just means the FACTORY warrantiy is validated IMO purely from a buying standpoint.
Its just to charge you more money
Lol marketing gimmick lol
Stupid comment
CPO vehicles often come with their own special warranty, especially the Nissans. I think CPO Nissans come with something like a 7yr/100,000 mile warranty.
There is no third party inspection that includes weld inspection. Unless there’s a recall.
Thanks Scotty for keeping us informed 🇺🇸
I have a certified preowned Toyota Tundra and it all ready covered a fuel pump and a timing chain tensioner. Free loaner while truck was in the shop.
Certified Pre-Owned used to be good, it is no longer good for the consumer. Cars are not reliable enough for it to be worth it.
Scotty you are the best always teach your boy something new 👍🏻
Scotty need to correct you on the train power system, a train today is diesel/electric.
Isn't that what he said ? diesel/ electric I'll have to rewind now lol
I love scottie videos man !! So much better than anything on Netflix or whatever!

The worst warranties advertised today is from Kia and Hyundai. The 10 year 100k mile warranty is a joke. Very few have benefited from this, with majority of Kia and Hyundai owners stuck with thousands of dollars in repair costs the manufacturer refuses to correct.

Would an inspection catch missing welds? How would a mechanic know a weld is missing?
A spot weld is easy to see if it fails or is missing but a running weld could be behind an integral part of the chassis . Those welds secure important joints so no unless it is obvious .Do you watch those motor bike builders ? They grind down the welds and paint or chrome over them so they are invisible .
I had a friend that her whole family bought Nissans. One lasted 3 years, next 4 years and last did last 6 years until they finished paying for it
I got a certified 2015 Tundra from Autonation. Awesome truck 😊
I bought a 2012 Nissan XTERRA that was “certified” preowned and it had broken leaf springs

Forward to come up with a new car that has all the same options that the model T had. Maybe it might last a few years.
I'll take on black please.
Scotty's "check book shelf" light is on. Hope his diagnostic tool is compatible with IKEA shelves.
How many times has Scotty had the crap scared out of him?
Well, he should be crap free now.
Scotty is always prepared for his colonoscopy. Maintenance is important after all.
No issues.
Diesel train uses diesel fuel generators to power electric motors anyway. Not straight diesel like cars trucks.
I hope you are ok after storm Helene
My father brand new car 1976 Chevy Impala was delivery without oil plug for differential and we paid $445.00 dealer prep at the dealer and they promised a full hub cap and gave us a cheap junk cap. When we asked for the promised hub cap the dealer want us to pay $44.00 six week later. The delivery dealer prep was washing car, and all fluid level are filled and checked by mechanic at the dealer.
Pre-owned inspection means nothing unless they hand you "Thier" pre-owned certificated Guarantee that specifies the inspection points and that they will cover them against failure.

Hey Scotty, Do a video on Russian cars the cost and dependability and their plane jane vehicles without a lot of variables that can go wrong or break.
Need an engine that works on water. Somebody invent a steam engine please.
With a modern flash boiler I can't see a problem but steam needs energy .This is how we could learn from the oldies .The Stanley steamer capable of over a hundred miles an hour once steamed up.The fuel for most was kero but is it cheaper in bulk than petrol?
Certified does mean to get an extended warranty. So, its not totally worthless. 7/100k on my used Titan.
Thanks for another great video Scotty. I have learned so much valuable information from you. I really appreciate it.
The pics you are showing at the beginning of the Video is of a Rock sliders installed. I don't see missing welds ???
I always laugh when I go to the big city and watch people try (and fail) to parallel park. Funny and sad at the same time.
I had to parallel-park to get my license (They gave you three tries---I made it on the first attempt). I'm pretty rusty, since I haven't needed it for five years, and even back then it was maybe twice a year.
The only thing that will never fall apart, is manual transmission. It will last forever.
I wouldn't use it to parallel park. I avoid parallel parking anyway.
To be semi fair to those mechanics who certify pre-owned cars. Who looks to see if the manufacturer made the welds correct? When you check cars out to see if it's OK to buy. Do you look at welds scotty?
Can you explain how the apportion valve in the brakes work in an emergency with a broken brake line
just saw on the news 2 ev vehicles caught fire in someone’s garage when it met some salt water and houses were burned to the ground 😮
Yeah some people just complain continuously.
scotty im getting to old to change my oil, tough question where to get oil change? think dealer, but prices are higher and the guys that do the oil changes are not their best ,and for sure not a certified mechanic.
Since wind and solar are not constant they should be used to make hydrogen, which you can store cheaply
It was a Monday and the welding robots were hung over from Sunday football...
The Chinese aren't buying BMW and Mercedes anymore because the Chinese are making their own cars now.
The people using auto park probably saw a spot that a smart car can barely squeeze into and expected the system to perform a miracle 😂😂😂
300 kilos is approx 300 litres ,which is just over 72 gallons--not much in a day!
I thought I'd never see the day that scotty would agree with GM 😮😮
Thats with most manufacturers not just Nissan so i say thats normal to them

We got nissan suv with tenesis driving license car plate with crapy car. 😂 it's doing fine full gasoline deposit 2 weeks later runing on reserve . 😂
But doesn't the new car warranty transfer to the next owner ?
Honestly why do so many people buy cars that fall apart and spend more time in the shop than on the road?
Tommy Boy: Here's how I see it. A guy puts a guarantee on the box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of sh*t.
How do you miss welds when making a vehicle? Isn't it all automated and everything goes through the same process?
How does a robot know if it misses a weld? It did the prearranged movement so it's happy. Imagine if you turn on your vacuum without the bag. It will happily spread dirt everywhere.
There's lot of underwater veicals out there somebody is getting stuck with them
How much should a decent mechanic charge for checking out a car?
For sure China can't build a properly good reliable normally aspirated engine as the Japanese, so they went the battery route, but it seems they don't do long term tests for parts especially the underbody like chassis, suspension parts. Saw some videos they use low grade metals on some of these vehicles.
"Chyna" steel is low quality, like most everything else they make.
Before I watch. I'm guessing it's a BMW or Merc.
How does this guy even know that welds are missing? full frame vehicle has " missing welds" maybe its by design. Depends on configuration of cab, bed , power train. Im sure joe shmo knows about where ther should and should not be welds .
My dad taught me when you looked at a used car checked the oil first thing. If it’s low or dirty walk away. Find a better used car lot.
Certified pre-owned vehicle legally means it was pre-owned.
The Chinese cars have a large tariffs. If you go buy plates for a gasoline engine car, it will cost you as much as the car itself for the plates. They're electric cars don't have These taxes, That's the reason why foreign cars are not selling there
