- The next stage in the Heatblur F-14 is here! On the 18th of November, start flying the F-14A-135GR; a late -A model Tomcat. With an entirely new engine simulation, new artwork and a huge list of general improvements and fixes--this is truly an entirely new experience in flying the F-14 Tomcat.

After spending 5 years serving in the Navy working on F-14’s the level of detail is amazing. I miss my old birds, and this brings an air of nostalgia I can’t describe. vF-14 Tophatters forever!

I was on the USS Enterprise in 1984 and saw them daily. I looooved every second of it. I could stand there all day and watch if I didn't have to do my duties. To this day, it's still my all time favorite jet. BIG, LOUD, FAST.

You know it’s good if “Okie” is putting his name on the side of it.
It's really a birthday present from us to him for his 70th birthday last month. What is much more important is the great help, guidance and feedback he gave us, that helped make the Heatblur Tomcat what it is. :-) Okie is a great guy, he is inseparable from the history of Tomcats and a very dear and special friend to us. His guidance and input are invaluable. His entire family was kind beyond words to us, and to set him such a "tiny monument" is the least we could do. In reality, he deserves a big one of course.

@@TheKenji2221 Full of bugs bugs and bugs 🐞🐞🐞Because MSFS 2020 is like a fly game more then a flight sim at this stage. As a result, some of the Cessna pilot even switched from MSFS to DCS🤪
@@dennylui ehhh, I have a doubt that commercial flight sim gamers are "switching" for a whole new genre of game. I could see maybe going back to xplane. But highly doubt the Cessna players are switching to a game with F-16s and A-10s lol.

Was not aware that the "feathers" on the TF30 engines pulled into the body like that. Always just assumed they worked like the B model and feathers just expanded and contracted their diameter.
They are quite weird, yeah. I never thought about how they worked either until I played an older combat flight sim with TF-30 Tomcats.
They expand AND retract into the body when going to afterburner, but from what I can tell it was only when going into burner that the feathers move at all.
The F-14A's afterburners have such a distinct look to them. They look like wide-open eyes blazing a hole through you!

Heatblur is the only 3rd party developer on DCS that I truly trust in bringing home some quality simulation.

It is shameful to agree with that. They truly do not want to go "easy" with their goals and take pride for what they do.
I would say that Heatblur puts even ED in rear when going for details and quality.
Leatherneck is good too, but they were basically Heatblur's former company.
@@jpetras16 After 5-6 major changes to MiG-21 flight modeling I can't trust it. While their main developer is MiG-21 pilot, it is odd that ex- test pilots for Bis say it is underpowered and can't perform real intercepts even from basic fuel consumption standpoint and flameouts way too easily. And these are who worked directly with MiG company to solve problems in controls, engine etc.
@@paristo I mean I think you're exaggerating a bit. It flames out easily in the game. Of course it's not real life, but it's pretty close.

Your actually getting 4 planes for the price of one, the GE-95 is the Iranian one, the GE-135 is the old F-14A with the ARL-45 RWR then you have the next F-14A with the ARL-67 same RWR as the F-14B and the F-14B itself.

It is faster to accelerate than B, and can turn better, but can't fly as fast as B.
And compressor stall is said to happen just few times as it was not such a problem unless you janked the throttle continually up and down at fast rate. The B allowed you to have unlimited throttle controls to wank it around as power requirements were.
So basically no one should get any compressor stalls if knowing how to handle throttle gently.

@@2shae475 F-14A was very prone to flameout during high AoA maneuvers.
@@2shae475 The F14A was forced by McNamara to use a bomber engine with an afterburner strapped on. It was garbage and led to the loss of numerous aircraft from compressor stalls, shed turbine blades that severed hydraulic lines etc. The engine couldn't take a throttle slam safely, y'know, something rather fundamental to air superiority fighters. It wan't until the F14B upgrade that the plane had the kind of engine it had been designed in mind with.
Well, I'm waiting for this because the "F-14B" by them was turned into a complete rocket ship, causally mowing down any other fighter jet in DCS. Hopefully this version will be more representative of the era...
@@getsideways7257 Pretty sure that's not the case from several flights I've seen of it. In BVR and the right conditions, the Pheonix is a monster weapon, and properly flown the Tomcat B is a respectable energy fighter, but it's certainly not a F22 by any means

The best regards from us to your family! Please keep in mind that the VF1 livery will release together with the 95-GR, thus a bit after the next patch, just so that you're not disappointed it won't be in right away. The 135-GR will release with late A liveries only at first. :-)

If you already own the DCS F-14 this F-14A is free for you, as is the AI A-6E. The AI USS Forrestal class will be free for all DCS players IIRC.

This is a very modern trailer and that's fine, but I feel an opportunity was missed to give a very 80s plane a very 80s trailer.
That was already done for the F-14B on this channel. Look for it. ;-)
that comment just made me aware that I almost dislike everything that was created in the 80s - design- and music wise- except for the U.S. fighter jets, there are some with a truely timeless aesthetic design.

Actually the stalls were fairly rare. You’d only see them about once every 1600 hours of flight time according to pilots that actually flew it
@@CaptainMetalwing that’s a pretty good compared to what other pilots I listen to and read about they say it’s most common when on landing because of the reduced air flow a low speeds

Is the Iranian weapons load coming with the F-14 ???
Heatblur stated in the past they would only do that if they find enough documentation, so don't hold out for Hawks or the like. Though the proper downgraded F-14A will be provided in the future (which is different from this F-14A which is closer to the F-14B).
The early F-14A sub-blocks might play differently from the post-Cold War F-14A. The Iranian Tomcat was the F-14A-95-GR, the same F-14A-95-GR as the Navy version but with minor differences as it is an Iranian Air Force plane, and it doesn’t outfit with a TCS and ECM bracings. I don’t think the Iranian Tomcat can be launched by a catapult.
About the modified Hawk missiles, time will tell.
There should be a "FIXED AIM-54" release trailer, because that is the most exiting thing that will be released with the next patch (hopefully)!

It seems that with the next update the Aim-54 will use the new API, which removes Magic INS and adds other nice stuff (SARH only in PDSTT, Seeker goes on 16 s time to impact etc.)
U know the API was activated finally by ED’s changes on the 4th of November right? It’s already in game
The problem now (unless it has been fixed already) is a MP problem..other aircraft aren't getting an RWR warning when the missile goes active. So folks are upset because of the "stealth" AIM-54s

What is the difference between the F-14 and the A version? thanks in advance you tomcat experts!
The first was the B version with reliable and more powerful GE F110 engines. The A version has PW TF-30 engines, less powerful and more prone to compressor stall. The advantage of the A version os that It has a higher top speed than the B version.
The A model has the underpowered (20,900 pounds of thrust) and infamously compressor stall prone Pratt and Whitney TF-30’s, while the B model has the General Electric F-110’s with around 28,000 pounds of thrust and improved fuel economy. There are other minor differences, but that is by far the most important one. The later D model was basically a B model with a glass cockpit and other electronic upgrades.
The F-14A continues receiving upgrades after the Cold War, with similar capabilities and technology of the F-14B. If you look at pictures of F-14As of VF-211 Fighting Checkmates or VF-154 Black Knights in early 2000s, they look extremely identical to the B variant, except with the disabled glove vanes and P&W TF-30-414A turbofan engines.

That being said, I don't think I'll ever really prefer the F-14A over the B (those F-110s are just too powerful), but I'm a lot more excited than I would have ever imagined I'd be a year ago.

I'm confused. Why go backwards from the F14B to the F14A when they could have spent the time and money and upgraded the flight model to the F14B Upgrade and F14D models? At least incorporate the digital FCS and upgraded HUD into their current F14B model. The F14A reveal leaves me cold.
Because the F-14A was the vast majority of F-14s active during their service, and because the information needed for the F-14B (u) and F-14D still classified.
