    Good old Page Field. I remember when it was still used for commercial flights. In the summertime especially, Runway 5 was tight for fully loaded planes. So they’d start as close as possible to the end and run their jets up while standing on the brakes. One day one of them actually blew a guy off his motorcycle as he was passing by. They also had a local radar on loan from the military. It was on a trailer right next to US41 and you could hear it sweep across the shitty car radio in my old Buick. They opened RSW out in the swamp shortly thereafter since Page couldn’t handle the larger planes that the growing FMY area needed. Once they moved out and security was pretty much non existent, I had a buddy who was a ramp rat at the FBO and we used to hang out at the field and check out all the planes. Good times.

      Same memories here, got my private ticket at Page back in 82 at Fort Myers Airways. Ugh, that's depressing Anyway, Clearly remember watching 727's land over US41. So close you could see the faces of pilot and passengers. Threshold of 5 is maybe a football field from the edge of the roadway. Insane. If I remember correctly, Eastern Airlines was the only carrier for some time, and the National joined them at some point or vise versa. Seems like they moved commercial operations to the first RSW terminal in swamp the late 70"s? That terminal has since been scrapped for the existing facility.

    He knows what he’s talking about with the icing.. personally, I like to go up to escape the ice if you think you can get above the clouds..However more ice is often found nearest the tops, and you may find warmer air by descending, I still prefer to climb if you can get on top..

      @@flyingsic I'm 74, born & raised in west central fla. when I was a kid we did not have A/C in our houses, we did not need it; ambient daytime air temp's were cooler; used attic fans at night to suck in cooled air NOW there is very little green space left that is not populated with buildings/asphalt/concrete roadways, etc; the ambient air temp's have increased 10-15 degrees F in the last 25 years, the plethora of close quartered higher structured buildings severely limits air movement so there's much STAGNATION with relative Heat/Humidity; sorry to burst your bubble but one ACCLIMATES by either going NAKED when possible and/or using A/C set to the lowest economically feasible level. If one goes into the forest 30 - 50 miles from populated areas it is much cooler especially under massive sprawling Oak trees & free air movement.

    Hello Baron Pilot. When your at altitude and pick up ice and descend below it does the wind speed of the aircraft affect how long it will stay on there. I know on the ground wind chill is a factor in cold weather. Thanks.

    • @montemenasco8584
      @montemenasco8584 4 роки тому

      The rise in temp as you descend helps the ice melt. Even if you can get above and direct sun light helps even if you are -1 or -2. The “wind” does not help it melt the ice.

    That speed is very expensive in aviation, I don't know how long that flight was but $300.00 later it sure cost you. I figured a 172 Cessna cost less then $50.00 an hour to fly, does that sound about right? Sure is a lot of difference. Thanks for the ride Kris and Kim looks great as usual!!! ;-)

    Quick question. Other than the AC benefit, can you really tell a difference in how you feel in pressurization? Many years ago I hit 9,000 in my Comanche on a 90+ degree day and my fingernails were blue and I had to descend quickly. I recall feeling tired when I landed an hour or so later.
    I would think, particularly on longer flights, being pressurized might make things more comfortable.

      The theory of shock cooling is based on power reductions not descent rate. So yes you can descend greater then 500’ per minute and in a pressurized cabin you won’t feel your ears change like in a non pressurized cabin.

      Baron Pilot okay, thanks for the answer, no impact on that then. I thought power reduction with a high rate of descent could be a problem 🙃

      Agreed. It was based on a lie. Ironically both pilots in the crash had more than 1500 hours. So the rule never would have prevented the crash.

      could happen but not from the factory, Allison 250's would be perfect. quick math on parts looking at the best part of a mill on parts alone for a experimental beast. love the idea though

    We need more efficient dual engine planes. A VL3 915 2 seater can match the speed burning less than 10gph mogas. At FL180
