I saw The Outlaws when they were the REAL Outlaws a half dozen + times waaay back in the day, when it was Hughie, Billy and Freddie on guitars. Harvey Dalton Arnold on bass and with Rick Cua on bass And when both Monte Yoho and David Dix on drums at the same time and later when it was just David. Never got to see them when Frank O'Keefe and Henry Paul (the first time) was in the band, if you were lucky enough to see them live prior to 81 it was with any of these guys. The Outlaws were definitely a live band, man could those guys play especially Hughie Thommason. Hughie is one of the greatest guitar players ever to strap on a Strat, he never got the credit and accolades he so rightly deserved, not only was he a awesome player the man could sing like no one else.
saw them in Oct. '77 in Roanoke, VA !!! ... probably one of the best Southern Rock bands that were warming the crowd up for the later ZZ Top show !!! ... saw Beard and Gibbons head-bobbing and keeping time just off the stage !!! ... excellent concert !!!
I agree. 1st rock concert I saw on November 11,1079... my 18th Birthday. At the time, I was playing lead guitar for a southern rock band. I was a lot younger than the rest of the band as everyone else was in their mid to late twenties... we played many Outlaw tunes so for me, it was an epic night I will never forget. Point Blank was the opening act, followed by Molly Hatchet! The Outlaws were the headliners for the evening. It was festival seating and we sat straight across the arena near the floor. The stage was a long way, but everyone that had already been to concerts thought it would be a good thing to stay off the floor as we didn’t want to be separated... ahh, the good old days when 3 epic bands were only $7.99 a ticket!
I think the first three albums were the best and wish there were more videos of that lineup - loved the contrast between songs written and sung by Hughie and those written and sung by Henry. Then, throw in a few Billy songs - also great. Kinda like John (Hughie), Paul (Henry) and George (Billy). No offense to Freddy Salem .
I'll always miss the old days as the albums came out. They were always my favorite and Hughie was a "Living Legend at that time" Now God Rest his soul. We love you Hughie ,God Bless!! Billy was a math Professor!!!
RIP Huey Thomason the master of the Stratocaster the czar of the telecaster one of the worlds most underrated guitar players ever used to see the outlaws many many times especially I will never forget the night at the Fox theater in Atlanta Georgia where Skynyrd recorded one more for from the road one hell of an evening ladies and gentlemen
I hate that Hughie died. I saw him with the Outlaws at Mohegan Sun Casino in the fall just before he passed. Such a giant loss! I know Henry Paul means well by keeping the legacy alive but Huhgie was the soul of the Outlaws after Billie died. I wish Henry would invite Freddy and Harvey back. They were so instrumental in the sound of the live album.
Nicely said hear, l agree with you on Freddie and Harvey if they're around, l know Freddie is (a wonderful player), don't forget David Dix, he'd be a great invite too..
I have been an Outlaws fan since I first heard them in 1976. THE most pro;ific southern rock band of all time. I was fortunate to see them in concert at the Capitol Theater in Washington D.C in 1978 while I was stationed at Ft. Meade.
Billy, if i'm not mistaken had become an RN, what a smart dude to be able to leave a prominent rock band and just go right into a medical profession. Ol' Ht on the tele kills me!!! How about Rick's russian sailor shirt!!!WTF!!!! Freddie Slablem on guitar, what a killer element to the most underrated rock band of the seventies. PERIOD.
i sure wish they made music like this now . i hate rap hip-hop and all that other shit they play on the radio now days. lol guess im showing my age oh well
And on that evening monte yoho Was there only drummer but when Daviid Dix Join that band he bought a whole Nother dimension to their sound if you ever got the chance to see the full lineup with Huey Billy Jones Freddy Salem Harvey Dalton Arnold that was an amazing bunch of cats it was a shame what happened to Billy Long live the original outlaws and y’all know who I’m talking about not Henry Paul’s fake band
Without Hughie , there is no Outlaws!
True southern rock
Freddie salem.. such a cool guitarist

You are so correct. I did have the fortune to see the band play in the original lineup, many times.

I have always rated The Outlaws as being one of the best guitar bands .
I'll always miss the old days as the albums came out. They were always my favorite and Hughie was a "Living Legend at that time" Now God Rest his soul. We love you Hughie ,God Bless!! Billy was a math Professor!!!
Billy was as good as Hughie..
I sure loved this band! Their vocal harmony was as good as the guitar!
Nobody has a voice like Hughie Thomasson.

I always thought the same thing. They are the only southern rock band who can still pull it off. Freddie and Harvey are still out there.
Nicely said hear, l agree with you on Freddie and Harvey if they're around, l know Freddie is (a wonderful player), don't forget David Dix, he'd be a great invite too..

I think you saw them at the Warner Theater, saw them there twice around that time, once with Point blank as the opener and once with Pat Travers

The Army was very underated Great band 38 special was not even close to being in their league.
.38 special was a pop band compared to Lynyrd, Allmans , Tucker , Outlaws , Charlie and Grinder switch.
Billy, if i'm not mistaken had become an RN, what a smart dude to be able to leave a prominent rock band and just go right into a medical profession. Ol' Ht on the tele kills me!!!
