Yes!!! I’ve had my VH-140C since 94 and I keep it here at home. It made an appearance on our last single but man they’re such cool amps!!!!
Rad🤘
This sounds so incredible! I only knew about the 140 before this vid
I had the Ampeg SS70 1x12 combo, I gigged with it for close to 9 years and it never failed. Extremely loud and tons of gain for old school Death Metal.
Rad!🤘
Sounds great
The one I own , is the slanted vh 150 head...that has 10 extra watts of low end that makes it the ultimate death metal 90's guitar head. But would love to own that one too :)
So loud, awesome dude. This gain level is insane with good riffs.
🙏🤘
I've been keeping my eye out for one of these myself. I always figured these amps were essentially solid state 5150's.
I was born in 97, so i never got to see the greatness that was the reign of solid state amps in the 90's. However, i myself am in the minority of people who prefer the tone of solid state to tubes and have been on the search for these amps ever since i first heard about them.
Fingers crossed i hope i find one, or even a Crate GX140c at the very least in decent condition.
Check out some of the pedals that model the pre amp of this amp, I built a DIY version from Aion FX and it sounds brutal both as a distortion and as a pre amp. Unreal. Ampeg had a patent on this circuitry for a while but it’s expired now, so what they did to achieve this sound is available for anyone to replicate.
That gain structure though! Sounds very close characteristically to the old c200! That thing is a beast 😍😍
Wow! right on Jared🤘
With the matching cab, it pretty much screams Suffocation. Damn that non-Celestion version (they also had one with T75s or Greenbacks or something) sounds scooped. Gotta give Souls To Deny an another listen.
👍👊🤘
Damn! The matching cab sounds killer!
Thanks Don!
This sounds awesome dude!
Thanks man!
Your settings always trip me out! Can't handle the bass 😂🙌
Hell ya 10 baby! You can’t add but you can always take away, know what I’m saying dude🤘😜
Sounds killer! The VH140/150 are metal monsters. Currently waiting on a Crate VTX350H to arrive so I can see how it compares to the VH. I have read from Crate's own engineers that, along with the Tidalwave and VTX200S, it has VH140 preamp in it + an additional channel and a 350 watt power section. Should be fun!
How does it compare?
@@relentlessvomit4361 It's the same circuit. Only difference is that the treble frequency on the Crate is tied to 7kHz instead of 3.5kHz like the VH. I made a comparison video on my channel. The sound, amount of gain, and character are the same. The Crate just has a hair more sizzle on top. In a mix, or live, I doubt I would be able to tell the difference.
That amp is ride or die ! Best ever
Agreed🤘
🤘🏼💀
Just found your channel. Heard your passion for the Ampeg VH150 and subscribed. You still in SD? Would love to see your band play and watch you guys jam.
Right on man thanks! Ya I live in so cal🤘
Fuckin’ lean, mean hi gain machine! Dope! Love it! I’m bringing the KEMPER when I go to San Diego! Let’s profile a couple of your sick solid state amps!
Hell yes🤘
If I ever see that Ampeg head at the pawn shop I'm definitely grabbin it. I've seen it on Reverb for about $880AUD but that might be a bit pricey...
Absolutely🤘😝
is the Crate GX212 sound the on the same ballpark as the GX130C VH140c vibe? I mean, I bought in Italy for less than 70 euros, but, it's insanelly loud that I don't want problem testing it here, maybe I'll bring with me but I really want to know if those Crate sound close to this. Thanks
Who knows, depends on speakers too. Not so sure the Crate GX130C is comparable to the VH140 tho…
Can say for sure that GX130C isn't the same as VH140C. They are very close schematics-wise, but their tonestacks are totally different and so are a few clipping diodes. One can supposedly be modded into the other if you know your way around it. But otherwise, you won't be able to get the same tone out of the two. Crate is way darker and more loose, almost Recto-ish. The only Crates that have the same preamp circuit are the GTX3500H Tidalwave (super rare) and the VTX350H (basically the same thing as the Tidalwave, but more common and it looks ugly). GX130C is a cool amp on it's own, though. Sounds best boosted with a clean Metal Zone. Buuuuuut... Given the chance, I'd take a GX1600H over the GX130C (same preamp as the GX130C with a higher wattage mono power amp, but no chorus).
I got real lucky and bought one for 400 recently
Yes score🤘
Bad A$$ 🎸
🤘😘
