as always the vh140 is a hoss, unfortunately I did have it set a hair brighter than the vh150, although the 150 is just a tiny bit naturally darker than the vh140 anyway, the VHD perfectly bridges that tonal gap between the two, sick pedal and killer product.

Nice, I got a SS140c . One of the better SS amps out there. It holds it's own. Love to get my hands on a VH
I've got both. Vh has way more gain but I still prefer the ss overall
@@malevolentsound Same here, SS cuts through in a band a little better but the VH sounds better when dicking around by myself.

I know this is old, but what do you guys us for the power amp? I have a vh150 and vhd. Thinking about checking out a powerstage 170.
Miss my vh140. Used to run an mxr 6 band eq in the loop. Finally got the Crate Gx130c. Doesn’t compare to the Ampeg VH at all in my opinion. Still on the hunt for an SS150. SUBSCRIBED!!

I really like my GX but it is voiced differently than the Ampegs. The mids are focused at 900 instead of 1k, the highs are focused at 5k instead of 3.5 like the VH140 or 2k like the SS150.

How do you tune your guitar so low? Blocked trem?
I run 12-60 nyxl in drop A or B standard ish. Its always a few cents off pitch though haha. also I get the .020 as a wound single for the 3rd string. That plain size is too fucked up to use. Its the right mix of tension and tuning for me with those
I have a SNK VHD pedal on my pedalboard sitting right next to a Master Effects Martyr pedal. I can blend the two since they are going through my EHX Tri-parallel mixer. Either switch them one at a time or blend them. I couldn’t find an Ampeg VH140c or SS140c or the 150’s in decent shape. All beat up. Maybe one day I’ll find one in superb shape and buy it but for now, I get it in a pedal that sounds brutal. I like the SNK VHD and Master Effects Martyr pedals as much as my KSR Ceres pedal. They all sound great in C which is where I play.
Snk vhd is definitely my favorite and second would be the plx FX spirytus
@@BearAmps I hadn’t heard of the plx fx spirytus. I just checked it out. Yeah, that one sounds great too and another pedal that sounds amazing straight into fx return! That’s how I like to run my preamp pedals. Great video by the way and thanks for the mention of plx fx. I’ll check out what other stuff they have too.

While the 150 is girthier, the 140 has more grind. It would probably be better for me being that i wann tune to a standard, so I need the brightness for clarity
How do you run the vh140c in mono to use all 140 watts?
You can't, only 90watts per channel mono at 4ohms, 70watts at 8ohms. But for example you can run both outputs to a stereo marshall 1960b at 8ohm per side (absolutely be sure the cab is set to stereo mode) then you'll get a solid dual mono 140watts as long as the chorus isn't engaged or there's no stereo processors in the rear stereo loop.

@@TheGreatBaronOBeefDip yeah Peavey made several, ampeg made a bunch but they're hard to find, crate had a couple. Or you can pick up a Plug and Play jack plate online and add it to any 412
@@BearAmps Oh wow I had no clue about that, I may have my Ampeg cab modded now. I'll try to find a stereo cab just to see what they may cost, thank you, got some sick tones out of those. I would love to find a VH150, they are unicorn rare.
