No problem, glad it was helpful. Regarding UK specific covers you might try putting "uk" at the front of the "Regions (In order of priority)" option in the Miscellaneous tab of Skraper. In theory, when Skraper can't determine a ROM's region based on the filename alone it, should fall back on the order in this list when determining which boxart to scrape.

Glad to hear that it worked, thanks for sharing! It is possible to reduce the font size of the menu times. It does affect several of the text elements within GarlicOS, so you might need to change it a few times to find a sweet spot.
Thanks for the great tutorial! Really easy to follow. However I'm having a problem - I can't just cancel out of the wizard, because it closes the program entirely.
Thanks I appreciate. You can try selecting generic emulation. That should get you to the program and then you'll just need to add/edit the consoles manually
When you're done, do you just copy the resulting "media" folders to their respective folders on the MicroSD (or Games MicroSD if using a 2 card setup)? You don't go over what to do with images after you've scraped them.
I cover that at 9:27 of the video: ua-cam.com/video/RSY6aclv4k4/v-deo.html The boxarts need to go in a folder called "imgs" that should be placed in each respective console folder. It's okay if they were scraped to a different folder name. You can just rename the folder to "imgs" and place it in the roms folder for whatever particular console the artwork is for.
What if we want to add some games after all this? Can we just download cover from internet renamed it and drag and drop to sd card? Otherwise this would be too long for just for a few games.
That would probably be the most efficient way, what you described. Just point the rom folder for the console your scraping to the location on your PC where the new games are stored. Also, Skraper does keep a local cache of all the images it's downloaded. So even if you rescraped all of your collection + the games recently added, it should only take a few minutes as it would only need to download the artwork for the new games. Everything else would already be available because of being stored locally.

No problem thanks for the comment! So I recently discovered this as well and you can no longer cancel out of the wizard. So just choose the "Generic" option and then proceed to manually add/remove the consoles you want to scrape and that should move things forward.
Great tutorial. Really easy to follow. Everything worked, but I still have no art displaying on the RG35XX. Menu text alignment has changed, rom folders all have the /imgs, scraping worked perfectly, but no art is displayed. Did i miss something?
Oke this convinced me to sell my psp3000 and get the rg35xx with the hdmi out. The missing box art kept me from not buying it considering the miyoo (no hdmi :/) this did it. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial, it helps me a lot. But I have one question, after all this, how do you add manually the box art if I just put a new game in my device?
No problem, happy to help. You can do this in two ways that I know of: 1) You can rescrape just the system you added the new game(s) for. When using Skraper, instead of selecting "All systems," just select the console that you added games for. It should go pretty quick since Skraper keeps a local cache of all the artwork you've already downloaded. It will only need to download the artwork for the game(s) you added. 2) You can manually grab a copy of the boxart using something like google image search and then use a free program called imagemagick to modify the image to appear correctly in GarlicOS. Someone posted a tutorial on Reddit not too long ago (it's the 2nd post in the thread): www.reddit.com/r/RG35XX/comments/10nfxm9/deleted_by_user/
ok brother I followed this guide exactly but I know I may sound stupid but where the hell is the image output folder after your roms are done scraping.... I can't find it anywhere on my pc .....
No worries :) If you followed the direction at 9:29 (ua-cam.com/video/RSY6aclv4k4/v-deo.html), the images should be on your SD card. They'll be located in an "imgs" subfolder within each console rom folder.
Thanks for the comment :) The mame arcade names are determined based on a config file that GarlicOS uses. It's stored on the roms partition at CFW/config/mame.csv It would probably be good to create a backup of the file before editing it, just in case something breaks in the process. You can open it in a text editor and do a find and replace of everything between and including parens (). This should get rid of all the decorations after which you can save the file and you should be good to go.
hey there, quick question. when checking the settings.json file of the theme I have on, there is no script for text, only colors, am I missing something?
At 3:10 you recommend to skip and then say "now that we have skraper open" but it does not open for me when I click skip, it just closes and nothing happens
Are you able to login to the screenscraper.fr/ website with your username and password? If you can login into the website, the same credentials should work in Skraper.
After I installed everything, everything works, alignment and art is there but for some reason I have a see through grey overlay over 3/4 of the art. Any idea on what is wrong and how to correct it?
A few others have had this same issue. It could be the theme you're using... In the CFW/skin directory on your GarlicOS card, see if there is a file called "game-overlay.png." Apparently deleting this file will remove the see through grey that obscures the box art.
a lot of games that im trying to scrap got some warning message and not being skrapped at all: WARNING : Http request failed with status code 429. Retrying... what do i do about this? is there anything i can do with it?
A 429 code means too many requests, so you've likely hit your scrape limit for the day. I would say best bet is to wait 24 hours and try scraping those games again.
Sometimes that happens. Go ahead and select 'Generic' and then proceed. It won't detect all of the correct system and rom folders on the card, so you'll have to change/add the ones it misses.
and what if i already skrapped some of the games, but for some reason, not all of them got cover images, can i somehow only update these non existing covers, without deleting these that got downloaded? or maybe i need to skrap everything from the beginning? does "no backup, overwrite or update existing" option will be enough?
I'm not sure if there is a better way to do this, but I usually move the games that have already been skraped to a separate folder, scrape the new games and then move everything back into the main rom folder.
Hi, I followed the steps very carefully but in my device, image is having a gradient from black to transparent. I don’t know how can I fix it so can you please advise? Thank you
This could be caused by the theme you're using, so using a different theme might fix it. Or you can try deleting the "game-overlay.png" file in the CFW/skin/ folder on the SD card.
Check out this new program called GarlicPress: ua-cam.com/video/uFYTzHM9BYw/v-deo.html I haven't used it yet but I've heard a number of good things about it so far.
Hi, is there a way to "Skraper" only new ROMs that doesn't have image in "imgs" folder? I've already looked for some settings that could do the job, but i've found nothing... Thank you.
I don't believe there is. I'm not great with XML either, so it required a lot of trial and error on my part to get everything where I wanted it in the artwork :(
Thanks for the video, I want to tell you about the games in Mamé with Garliscos, they didn't work for me, it was impossible and nothing, on the other hand, you already tried Batocera OS on the RG35XX, do you think it's better software than GarlicOs? Console battery life very short.
After doing some research on the internet, I found out that the RG35XX only works with a specific romset which is Mame2003. After downloading it and adding some games the majority of them have worked.
Try searching archive.org :) I haven't tried Batocera for the 35XX just yet. I'm currently using MINUI quite a bit and really enjoying it, but it doesn't support MAME.
@@otggaming3180 Thank you very much brother tomorrow I leave work early and I will look on that page that you send me and I will inform you if the games I download work for me, one question I put the games I download in the Mamé or Arcade folder.
All you guides are great and easy to follow. So I got to the last bit when I need to change the 'settings.json' but the list was smaller on my text file. Can you confim why this might be before I start editing it and updating this? Thanks Lenny
Hi Lenny, Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated :) The length of the settings.json file will vary depending on the theme you're using. I'd been using a custom theme when I created this video so the file contained more info than what it does by default. As a precaution you could make a backup copy of the settings.json file before making any changes to it, then if anything breaks just revert back to the original.
Man, I feel very dumb. Followed this to a tee, and no box art is showing up. For example, I have an "ARCADE" folder in my "ROMS" folder, and I have the file "xmen.zip" in that folder as well as an "imgs" folder, which has the "xmen.png" artwork. Nothing shows up. Very frustrating. Great guide. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
No worries, I know at least one other person was running into this same problem awhile back. I think it may have been his SD card. Are you using the SD card Anbernic supplied or did you swap it out for a better name brand one? I ask because the Anbernic supplied cards are known for having issues.
@@otggaming3180 I think I figured it out - I have the two sd card set up. The roms are on the second card but the imgs folder needs to be on the first card, not with the roms on the second card. It works now. Thanks for the guide!
@@otggaming3180 no prob. It's the same set up, but the "imgs" folders for each console have to be on the main SD card, same file path: ROOT>ROMS>[specific system folder]
I downloaded the box art n now i wants the screenshots too. Do i need to delete everytjing n skrap everything u said skrapper saves stuff so we didnt need to redownload but how do we add stuff without deleting current images?
when i canceled the wizard once it was finished, instead of launching the main part of scraper, it just left completely and i had to redo the downloading. So confused, anyone else have this issue?
Apparently, just pressing cancel doesn't work anymore. You now have to select generic emulation and then select your consoles and rom folders manually.
Hi just writing to ask if it is normal or just me that on the Configuration Wizard Box when i click cancel nothing happens it's goes off is there something i am doing wrong to get to the next step? Thank You 🍻
This is where the RG35XX fails compared to the Miyoo Mini Plus with inbuilt Wifi - as boxart scraping be done on the console itself which is super quick.
Hey man, your download link is dead. Hope you can fix it soon! Really looking forward to setting this up soon. Tried some default Skraper images and I’m not too happy with them 😂
Sorry about that. Doing some maintenance on my site and it took the links down :( I moved them over to Google Drive and updated the link so it should work now.
Try it again and see if it works, I think it should be back up now. Also, when the page opens, if you get a spinny circle try clicking the download arrow in the top right of the page and that should start the download.
Hello how do i access my multiple threads my account on skraper/ screen scraper is a paid subscription? What or where am i suppose to adjust to get the multiple threads. Thanks
Not sure what i'm doing wrong here. Followed everything in the vid. Keep getting "Error: Error processing (rom name)" for every rom scanned. All the directories are correct for each emulator and rom root folder. Cleared the cache for Skraper. Screenscraper account is fine as I can scrape on my Powkiddy X55.
Congratulations for the video, on my RG35xx it was partially correct, but on the covers there is a gray band over the image, I already looked in the folders and the images are correct, it seems that it is when reading the image by the rg35xx, I would know what could be my friend ? greetings from Brazil.
Thank you for the nice comment my friend :) One other viewer had a similar problem with the images being discolored. They found that the custom theme they were using caused the problem. Are you by chance using any custom themes?
Great guide, thanks! Got it to work but my box art appears to be washed out, almost as if the screen gets duller on one side. Any idea what is causing that? When I look at my jason file and the settings there is a lot less info in it than on yours. Something to do with this?
I don't think any of the json settings should effect the color of the boxart. Do they look washed out if you view them using an image viewer on a PC or laptop? Also, which version of Garlic are you on? 1.4.9 is the latest and super stable... if your'e on an older version maybe upgrading would be worth a try.
@OTG Gaming thanks for the response. I'm on latest version of Garlic and no the image looks fine when viewed on a computer. When playing games I don't see any issue which suggests not a screen issue. Have also tried re-scraping but get same issue.
anyone know if you can use the normalize videos too as box art? Im able to skrape it but it somehow doesnt recognize it. My guess is just like the image folder it probably need to be renamed but I dont know what name
@@otggaming3180 mmm maybe you cant as box art yet, but garlicos is able to play videos. I can watch the videos I skraped individually, they just wont play as box art. Not a huge problem anyway. Thx for the answer
@@barbe00brune Yeah, that's what I understand as well. You can watch the videos, but they won't auto-play where the box art is displayed. I haven't heard if that will be a feature included in GarlicOS 2.0, but it would be nice if it was.
Bummer, that's frustrating. Are you on Windows 10? I ask because someone else had a similar issue and it was because they were using Windows 7. When they tried it on a Windows 10 machine it worked as normal.
@@otggaming3180 windows 10. But I managed to get it working by running it for all systems. For some reason it just stalls when scraping for a singular system.
This happens for some. Go ahead and select "Generic" and then point Skraper to your roms folder. It won't correctly identify all of your systems so you'll need to add the missing ones manually as I go over in the video.
Sorry about that. Doing some maintenance on my site and it took the links down :( I moved them over to Google Drive and updated the link so it should work now.
is there a way to manually add an image with Skraper? A bunch of roms on my 35xx are romhacks, so I wouldn't expect to be able to find correct images automatically
Not that I'm aware of. Romhack art will probably need to be added manually. You can use something like google image search to find an image and then use a free program called imagemagick to modify the image to appear correctly in GarlicOS. I remember this happened with one other user and I believe it was because they accidentally capitalized "left". Can you double check your json to make sure it's all lowercase?

Thanks for the tutorial, it helps me a lot. But I have one question, after all this, how do you add manually the box art if I just put a new game in my device?
No problem, happy to help. You can do this in two ways that I know of:
1) You can rescrape just the system you added the new game(s) for.
Merci beaucoup 🙏👌
You're welcome! Thank you for leaving a comment 😊
Hi! Thanks for the good work. Is this box arts works on a koriki setup?
Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure if it will work on Koriki as I haven't tried it yet. Perhaps someone else can give the answer.
that started working !
one more thing, can we move art work to right and text on left ?
ok brother I followed this guide exactly but I know I may sound stupid but where the hell is the image output folder after your roms are done scraping.... I can't find it anywhere on my pc .....
No worries :) If you followed the direction at 9:29 (ua-cam.com/video/RSY6aclv4k4/v-deo.html), the images should be on your SD card. They'll be located in an "imgs" subfolder within each console rom folder.
Thank you very much!
You're welcome! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Perfect explanation!
I have a little issue with mame titles. They keep showing the "decoration", like (world, issue 2), (clone), etc
Thanks for the comment :)
The mame arcade names are determined based on a config file that GarlicOS uses. It's stored on the roms partition at CFW/config/mame.csv
It would probably be good to create a backup of the file before editing it, just in case something breaks in the process.
You can open it in a text editor and do a find and replace of everything between and including parens (). This should get rid of all the decorations after which you can save the file and you should be good to go.
Not available for Apple OS yet, so bit of a non starter for me and many others I expect.
Yeah, bit of a bummer for my Mac using friends :(
When I click "Cancel" it just closes for me. Does not pop up for me to do the manual presets. Tried on 2 different windows systems. Same outcome.
In that case just choose generic emulation. Skraper won't find all of the correct rom folders, but you can add the missing ones manually.
i need help !
When i open the scraper and click on the cancle button, it complete closes the app, there is no page
3:19
well I'm not sure if they updated the code because now when I click cancel on the front end selection it just closes completely.
I believe they did. I know just choose generic emulation and then add/edit the consoles and rom folders manually.
hey there, quick question. when checking the settings.json file of the theme I have on, there is no script for text, only colors, am I missing something?
At 3:10 you recommend to skip and then say "now that we have skraper open" but it does not open for me when I click skip, it just closes and nothing happens
hi tryed validing through the scraper app but its not aunthocating please help
Are you able to login to the screenscraper.fr/ website with your username and password? If you can login into the website, the same credentials should work in Skraper.
@@otggaming3180 Hi Thank you for your response Iam able yo log in the scraper site but not the application.
So if I got a file with all my images already, do I still need to run scraper? Or can I put my images into respective folders
a lot of games that im trying to scrap got some warning message and not being skrapped at all:
WARNING : Http request failed with status code 429. Retrying...
what do i do about this? is there anything i can do with it?
A 429 code means too many requests, so you've likely hit your scrape limit for the day. I would say best bet is to wait 24 hours and try scraping those games again.
When i cancel out of the frontend selector, the program never opens from there. I'm stuck
AW MAN....I'm on Mac....I guess I'll wait my turn lol
Yeah, it is bummer for those on Mac :(
Is it possible to have box art without using Skraper? If no can you upload custom box art for it after you run the initial skraper?
Check out this new program called GarlicPress: ua-cam.com/video/uFYTzHM9BYw/v-deo.html
I haven't used it yet but I've heard a number of good things about it so far.
Hi, is there a way to "Skraper" only new ROMs that doesn't have image in "imgs" folder?
I've already looked for some settings that could do the job, but i've found nothing...
Thank you.
hello, there are some gui app to modify the "user provided mix image"? coz i m not good with the xml
I don't believe there is. I'm not great with XML either, so it required a lot of trial and error on my part to get everything where I wanted it in the artwork :(
Hi, where is the file of the Image Mixes? The link doesn't work..
I moved them over to Google drive and updated the link, so it should work now.
@@1RealMike Can you please help me with a link where I can download mame 2003 roms because I searched and couldn't find.
Try searching archive.org :)
I haven't tried Batocera for the 35XX just yet.
@@MundoNintend0 Put them in the Arcade folder. Hope all goes well :)
All you guides are great and easy to follow.
So I got to the last bit when I need to change the 'settings.json' but the list was smaller on my text file. Can you confim why this might be before I start editing it and updating this?
Thanks
Lenny
Hi Lenny,
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated :)
The length of the settings.json file will vary depending on the theme you're using.
@@chuckstaton Good find. I'll add that to my notes. Thanks for sharing!
@@otggaming3180 yeah I figured that out about an hour after I posted the comment. Thanks anyway though
The link to the custom image mixes doesn't work
Yeah, sorry about that. I moved the downloads over to Google drive so the link should be working again.
@@otggaming3180 all good, I made my own mix template anyway 😀
Hi just writing to ask if it is normal or just me that on the Configuration Wizard Box when i click cancel nothing happens it's goes off is there something i am doing wrong to get to the next step? Thank You 🍻
thank you
After i hit CANCEL at the Skrapet menu the app closes. I had to choose one system. Can you please give me an advise? Thank you
This is where the RG35XX fails compared to the Miyoo Mini Plus with inbuilt Wifi - as boxart scraping be done on the console itself which is super quick.
Agreed. This is one of the things that gives the Miyoo a slight edge over the 35XX, IMO. I also like the WiFi for RetroAchievements.
Exactly and Onion OS is so darn good!@@otggaming3180
do you have to install the games first? or it's ok to have just the folders?
You'll need to have the games in the folders first. Skraper will download the art for all of the games it finds in your folders.
Hey man, your download link is dead. Hope you can fix it soon! Really looking forward to setting this up soon. Tried some default Skraper images and I’m not too happy with them 😂
Sorry about that. Doing some maintenance on my site and it took the links down :(
I moved them over to Google Drive and updated the link so it should work now.
The Drive link doesn't seem to work anymore....
Try it again and see if it works, I think it should be back up now. Also, when the page opens, if you get a spinny circle try clicking the download arrow in the top right of the page and that should start the download.
In addition to box arts, can rg35xx play short video clips as well?
I don't believe so. I can't find anything from the developer that indicates it's an available feature yet. Would be cool though.
Hello how do i access my multiple threads my account on skraper/ screen scraper is a paid subscription?
What or where am i suppose to adjust to get the multiple threads.
Thanks
please help,, in configuration wizard I click cancel and nothing happens..
Not sure about that one. Are you using the same roms on your 35XX that you use on your X55?
Did you figure out what was causing the issue? I'm currently having the exact same problem and it's driving me crazy.
Congratulations for the video, on my RG35xx it was partially correct, but on the covers there is a gray band over the image, I already looked in the folders and the images are correct, it seems that it is when reading the image by the rg35xx, I would know what could be my friend ? greetings from Brazil.
Thank you for the nice comment my friend :)
One other viewer had a similar problem with the images being discolored. They found that the custom theme they were using caused the problem. Are you by chance using any custom themes?
@@otggaming3180 Yes, I'm using a custom theme, how can I go back to the original garlicOS theme?
Friend, I think I managed to solve it: I deleted a file in the skin folder of the theme called game-overlay and it solved it. Thank you very much.
@@ThiagoSilva-uk7qt That's good to hear! I thought it was probably a theme issue. Thanks for sharing the solution and happy gaming :)
Hi what apps you use to esit and save json files
Any free apps for this
My go to app is Notepad++ It's a great little text editor, is updated often and is free :)
One last thing !
is there any way to swap A and B button in menu og garlic os !
B = select
A = Back
Great guide, thanks!
@@user-tm3or9tx5l am getting this as well like 80% of the image is washed out grey and hard to see, same on every image
@@BrodiePkmn discovered the issue. It seems to be the theme that is used. I changed this and is now perfect.

anyone know if you can use the normalize videos too as box art? Im able to skrape it but it somehow doesnt recognize it. My guess is just like the image folder it probably need to be renamed but I dont know what name
As far as I know, GarlicOS doesn't have the ability to show gameplay videos just yet. So I think we have to stick with images for now.
I haven't heard if that will be a feature included in GarlicOS 2.0, but it would be nice if it was.
hey the link for the custom mixes doesn't work anymore bro.
Changed the link and it should be working now. Sorry about that.
@@otggaming3180 thx 😊.
Appreciate the tutorial man but when I try to run the scraper it just stays on the status "Idle..." and does not progress no matter how long I wait :(
Bummer, that's frustrating.
@@ArabLetsPlays Glad you found a workaround. Skraper is still considered "beta" so sometimes you have to tinker to get it to work right.
When I click cancel it will not open Scraper like yours
This happens for some. Go ahead and select "Generic" and then point Skraper to your roms folder. It won't correctly identify all of your systems so you'll need to add the missing ones manually as I go over in the video.
awesome!!! and, what happend with snes pictures.... are so wide....
Could you give a bit more detail? Are the SNES pictures larger than the ones for the other systems you have?
When I cancel the selection the whole program closes...

is there a way to manually add an image with Skraper? A bunch of roms on my 35xx are romhacks, so I wouldn't expect to be able to find correct images automatically
Not that I'm aware of. Romhack art will probably need to be added manually. You can use something like google image search to find an image and then use a free program called imagemagick to modify the image to appear correctly in GarlicOS. Someone posted a tutorial on Reddit not too long ago on how to use imagemagick for GarlicOS boxart (it's the 2nd post in the thread): www.reddit.com/r/RG35XX/comments/10nfxm9/deleted_by_user/
Just a quick note, it would’ve been nice to know that while loading resources on screen scraper can take up to HOURS.
Yes, it can definitely take some time. Some have even had to let complete overnight 😕
What's the cause some people have to wait for so long? mine took about half an hour
@@Pawelo0301 I'm not sure. Unfortunately, there's very little documentation or support when it comes to troubleshooting Skraper.

That would be 'eu'. More info can be found here: github.com/muldjord/skyscraper/blob/master/docs/REGIONS.md
I followed your procedure carefully , and all of the images came over correctly, but the text is still centered for each item. The image is on the left and overlays the text. My settings.json file is only 9 lines long. I set the text-alignment setting is “left” and the text margin is set to “300”
I remember this happened with one other user and I believe it was because they accidentally capitalized "left". Can you double check your json to make sure it's all lowercase?
