How to get started with Permaculture? | RAINWATER MANAGEMENT - Part 1

  • The first step in designing a permaculture farm is rainwater management. Very often we do not give rainwater too much importance. But a good permaculture design starts with rainwater.
    Simple tools available online on www.meteoblue.com will give you an estimate of the rainfall on your property. You can then do earthworks to slow down, soak in and store this water. Swales, channels, ponds and pools, or bunds and dams are all ways of slowing down and storing rainwater.
    Rainwater is slightly acidic as compared to borewell water, and is much better for the plants and our bodies. In fact nature has designed rainwater for our drinking & irrigation purpose. Borewell is something we have just invented, but it is not for us.
    In this video, the founder of Aanandaa Permaculture Farm, Manisha Lath Gupta, will give you an overview of how to think about rainwater management on your property. With a good water management design, the water needs on your farm will reduce drastically, and the food forest will get irrigated itself throughout the year.

    Beautifully explained. Interesting. Waiting excitedly for the next episode. After water mgt, where would you recommend to build the house? Which part of the property would be most suited for the house? You have told us about the wind in your older episodes. How about the sunlight? Also you did promise us an episode on humans who interfere. 😊 And if you could explain how you created the pond, it would be very useful.

      Why is the water oozing from the ground? Dig a pit to see if the water is soaking in, or there is a hard pan which is preventing it from soaking in. In 2 days of rain, nothing should be overflowing.

    • @luvz2888
      @luvz2888 3 роки тому +1

      That would be called selfish and greedy if ponds are lined.
      It would b like, pumping steriods to ur biceps and triceps(storing water in lined ponds for own use and nt giving to nature) instead of whole body healthy nutrition( whole land surrounding the pond benefits frm unlined pond).
