After successfully running the Aaananda Permaculture Project near Chandigarh, Manisha Lath Gupta and her family realised that it was time to live in the environment where they grow their produce. Living with nature meant living in a home built using natural materials. Aanandaa sustainable house is built using sustainable materials like rammed earth, stone, lime, brick, and traditional roofing systems. The natural building materials were sourced locally and Manisha also ensured that they hired local crafts persons. Some other features of the house include the underground cellar to store the produce, rainwater harvesting, waste water management and a biodigester.
The sustainable architecture at Aanandaa is designed and directed by the Studio Aureole team lead by Architect Jitesh Malik. Studio Aureole is a conscious practice, often bridging the artificial divides of product, interior, architecture and landscape. Architectural practice at Studio Aureole is about creating spaces that have the power to re-connect us with nature, with ourselves and with our communities. Their definition of sustainable goes beyond materials to include the social and ecological fabric that we inhabit. At Aanandaa, their approach has been to bring together an environmental sensitivity with a contemporary design sensibility and a socio-cultural imagination that fosters collaboration.

Extremely beautiful house built with most possible eco friendly materials, design, equipments and components.
Gorgeous, but very labor-intensive. In the developed world skilled labor is the most expensive resource.
You can scale it down according to your needs ! Take the essential elements and modify.

My question is how to get in touch with them if one gets confused in building a house like this in terms of materials
If we want to build sustainable house in 200 gaj how much cost will come to build including all flooring, building materials cost and labour cost please suggest and tell me it's kind request ❤ 🙏
This is what happens when you're well educated and actually apply those things in your real life. This should be everyone's Dream House.
Thank you for your kind words
What an intelligent way of reusing the grey water!
Lemon grass, an excellent natural source of keeping mosquitoes and flies at bay; the grass gets its nourishment from the sludge and in turn keeps the surroundings pollution free.
We read it, she applied it!!
You forgot to mention the pleasant smell it has too !
@@vkndri7312 And the flavour it provides
this team has done wonders, they bought land at reasonable price and made it natural heaven called farm house
I wonder how many crores are in reasonable price
@@ashwanpreetsingh6420 It would be sustainable if everybody in that village can have a similar house.
I felt the same
@@himanshusingh5214the village people are quite inspired to build in rammed earth. It may be even cheaper for them, as they may choose to build it themselves.
Wise use of Natural building materials 🌳 We see Solar Hot Water system of roof & gas stove, but where is PhotoVoltaic ? You state "off-grid & pumps'" ...did we miss you mention of electric source??
We need these kind of visionary people...for our children...for their children!! Much love to the owners and creators of this masterpiece!!
Congratulations on building a house that is not only sustainable but beautiful. I'm sure the craftspeople are grateful to be able to work on a project that showcases their amazing skills.
We are the ones who are indebted to them for helping us build this house.
@@farmaanandaaI need your suggestion on my future abode. Can you please tell me how much the budget should be for a sustainable 1bhk or a 2bhk house if I wish to make a beautiful house like Manisha Ji has made.?🙏
@@farmaanandaapls share your contact details. We would like to build a house of 2bhk on the same concept.
Yes! 🪄💫☯️❤️🙏
So beautiful naturally made house, great job Manishaji
Congratulations
What is so interesting is the level of rainfall and yet the dwelling is leak proof. Kudos to all the local craftsmen that worked on this project. So many modern leaky homes all around the western world.
Amazing Wonderful...... going back to Nature , The Lovely Dream.....Our India Dream.... 1.❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯
I was literally awestruck for the whole 17 minutes. ❤❤❤
That's so nice of you to say
One of the most beautiful house,it is entirely connected to nature and green.
I have a mud house which is 508 years now. It is so good to see that there mud houses are being promoted in today's generation. Mostly people consider mud houses to be weak but they're actually much stronger than the steel and concrete ones.
Being so close to mother nature is like a heaven on earth itself- not less than a paradise
What a beautiful sustainable home. You can feel how happy she is to live there!
Simply AMAZING
Beautiful house
Nothing is like natural materials👍
It's because they must've loved and respected mother earth and nature since always, that they have been blessed with such a beautiful house and lifestyle. When you love Earth, it loves you back many folds. Finding right people and elements and resources at the right time is not "by - chance". It's your Earth and Heaven luck smiling at you !
I think this lady should be awarded Padmashri
Haha thank you so much for that vote of confidence! 😄
Truly "think local, act global" so inspiring ❤
I simply admire your work. Can't put my feelings in words. What you have done to nature and saving seeds is simply commendable.
Love everything about this beautiful house! The rustic look is what gives its character! So warm and cozy! 👏👏👏 to all the sustainability with the self watering and sewerage plant, the lime instead of paint, the different roofs size and materials, the rounded walls, the use of local labour and materials, and most of all the basement!!! Such an amazing pantry! My dream🥰…💯🙌❤️🙌❤️
I love the way Manisha ji is walking around barefoot. That shows the deep connection with Mother Earth. Thanks for covering it so well DTE team.
I am awestruck! this is absolutely beautiful. a mere sight of it reveals how beautifully you've welcomed mother nature into your heart and home. I have similar life goals and am even more inspired to work for something like this. I am surprised that I always used to imagine I would want to escape to somewhere in the hills to settle, but watching this video made me realize that, this lifestyle is still possible in Chandigarh. Oh i am never leaving now, and i hope that one day when i would wanna build with nature, I would reach out to Team Aanandaa, and guide me through the process. thank you for this lovely video.
house in such a big estate is only sustainable for rich and influential ones
Sustainable does not mean affordable. Sustainability means something that is built with minimum impact on the environment.
@@farmaanandaa yes I agree with you Manisha mam..
@@farmaanandaasustainable means economic as well. If it is not affordable then it can not be implemented on a large scale hence not sustainable.
For earning that much money you first exploit natural resources and then use that money in making such sustainable houses... In Asheer Grover's lang " kya DOGLAPAN h bhai "...😂😂
@@farmaanandaaif everyone starts owning so much of private lands the build these houses then it's ecological impact shall be negative only .
In today's time land is the most scarce resource we have and every inch of it needs to be saved and that's why multi storey buildings are need of hour .
I remember all kinds of walls i used to live in. Now i see all in different rooms, thats a great idea to believe our culture and environment ready home for ourself.
beautiful and inspirational.
You people are the true children of MOTHER NATURE.
KUDOS!
this type of video should go viral.🎉
Hi ..Good Afternoon..enjoyed your video with lots of learning..
Beautiful House 🏠 😍
Nothing less than "Mesmerising"❤
Kudos Down to Earth for introducing this masterpiece to us🎉
Next level.. you guys are great at showcasing the content.. really great work towards sustainable and organic farming
I am so glad I came across this video that gives a new meaning to sustainable dwelling.. Beautiful house with a beautiful story behind it.. Inspiring..
You are truly blessed to be in a beautiful space like this…absolutely beautiful.
Well done and thank you, Manisha and all involved. Earth is lucky to have such care for her natural gifts.
That's so nice of you to say
Wow! This is so beautiful and inspiring. I grew up living in a mud house. Our cities need to be built this way as well.
I’m in love with this house
It's outstanding work & environment friendly too.
there's a certain psychological aesthetic to your home that is mesmerizing - I sincerely love your taste and material choices. Your house, even through video looks and feels alive - your walls imperfections are the definition of actual perfection; the fact that you did not use the dreaded fake walls is commendable. I do wonder how cold it gets :)
I live in a brick building from 1931 in the centre of Bucharest, my apartment, albeit small, is intricate and has many corners and certain (not enough) rounded edges - I adore your home's vibe and you have all reasons to be proud of the living ecosystem you have achieved
Thank you for your generous comment. It gets about 15-17 degree Celsius indoors, and we use firestoves to keep ourselves warm. We have enough firewood because of the vast forest we have planted.
She doesnt cook by herself. I started this video with a lot of hope. You talk about sustainability after being rich. Show us that we can be poor and yet sustainable. Its easy for a few fruits to fall out of the rotten bunch. It doesnt solve problems...
Still finishing the video. I hope my time isnt wasted
Oh I cook a lot. But we do have help as when we run a farm stay we have to cook for many people. Don't judge us prematurely!
Forget about these people dear, these are still okay …and ma’am (only to Farmanaanandaa) please this is social media, people will talk, no one judging, it’s happening right in front of our eyes, and you have chosen to go public, so brace your self, relax your fine if you stick to basic courtesy (at least I say for myself I am just sharing thoughts,)……
………I am actually in complete agreement with your comment, … it’s always these rich methods thrown on faces to keep the planet “sustainable”..just think how??…how?” from the perspective of a lower middle class or middle class person is that even possible?.??…..I mean these rich have psychologically reached a secure space, where at minimum they don’t have to worry about the “basics” living things required to live a life. (I am not at all talking about how hard one has earned or they work hard to keep these finances stable etc etc, that’s a different topic, just where this conversation started, that when one has a good wealth and is positioned as ‘rich’ in the society financial rungs). This very psychological strength gives you a sense of confidence and self esteem, and one is able to explore the life without any stress for the “basic human needs” (in Hindi it says ‘roti, kapda or makan’)……
……….okay I will share a random example,: Jenifer Aniston or JLo or Beyoncé and many many many more, almost all the huge public figures, these huge celebrities/ powerful individuals, all, they constantly talk about eating healthy/ taking care of oneself/ taking care of your body & exercising/ being happy/ meditating/ do Pilates/ go hiking or swimming/ read books/ pamper oneself/ planting some kind of small or little plants/ blah blah blah etc etc…..but these same people insensitively, are seen dunked into the sinful unsustainable fashion practices by filthy rich fashion houses, …and promote them further more. I just don’t get it….i don’t……I get few things can be exceptions, where it’s about one’s physical security, but what about the other aspects of the life??…everywhere it’s thoughtless buying/ spending of unnecessary stuff. What about the bad habits of a human being???. And no sharing of opportunities among the fellow humans???…….such are the human societies created by us.
How does it matter even if she does'nt cook herself?
Just extraordinary architecture and artisanship!!
One of the best sustainable houses I have seen in a long time. Not to forget the amazing and enthusiastic explanation of the eloquent owner. Thank you for sharing your home with us. Love from Pakistan
An Inspiration...A Solution and a dire need of the present times....Hats off to Aanandaa and great job DTE👏🙏
Thank you
I thought to write applaud for this beautiful piece of work with mother nature. When I read the comments already posted, I feel all is already said. We all viewers have got our own inspiration and will to pursue sustainable living. Thanks Anandaa and Down to Earth, team.
Wonderful sustainable house. I loved to see each and every detail of the house, starting from multi level floor, different types of walls, great roofs and laying techniques. Getting natural lighting is too good. I can realise finding knowledgeable and skillful a professional how tuff. Thanks video.
‘There’s more water out there than we think there is’ yes! We could manage water so much more individually and locally.
They truly are a wonderful family they adopted their dogs Indian breed thats something the people need to learn
Indies are the best. Always!
Ingenious! Wonderful to see how much you care about nature and the planet itself. Hats off to you ma’am and all the people who came together to bring this ingenious concept into a reality ❤
A big thanks to all the craftsmen
This is my dream house.. ❤ will happen soon.. So thoughtfully built
I like to learn more of everything you did, because I want to build my house and I do not know from where to start, and I love the concept you manage in the construction of your house. Not only beautiful, but functional, spacious aesthetic, and ecologically organic. Thank you
My heart is full. Thank you for this!
So nice of you to say that
Many people are also recognizing this type of lifestyle. There's a lot of benefit to have this as a family or even as a community. 😉✨
Absolutely
Beautiful. Hardly a mud hut, though mud huts have their own humble beauty as well.
Amazing transformation what I saw in ur farm last time !!! Ur inspiration for me Manisha ji . After attending your class got a land near jaipur and will try to follow ur principles of permaculture… hope to see you again soon !! Stay blessed
That's wonderful! Good luck with your farm!!
Amazing the work of the artisans how keeps alive such a wonderful technics and wisdom! ✨
Really, it made me wonder why artisans earn so little but corporate employees earn so much. It does not make sense.
How genius she is. Incredible
Very well thought out house closing the loop system
Amazing work !
It's my dream to build a traditional and sustainable 2 floors house in future, while I feel sad that it's not gonna be simple, and easily available, I'm gonna start doing bits of research from now onwards so that I can build it a decade later.
This house shows a lot of variety structures and sustainability of waste. Nice house and ideas!!
Amazing building....just loved the material used and also the flow of the house.
Congratulations to all of you . This is a perfect example of country side living. I wish I can stay in a place like this...away from concrete jungle.
Thanks for sharing...a lovely home.
Brilliant work. I see so much scope to incorporate in my own projects in the future. If only there was a way to increase density at the same time using at least some of the techniques.
That was our aim .. do share when you use the techniques. All the best!
Inspiring!!❤
Wow.... What a fantastic space .. congratulations on having built this sustainable abode. Using local materials, labour, channelising the waste... Really a lot of thought has gine into making this. Loved it ❤
Such a meaningful life they're leading
Awareness needs to be spread among the masses. I want to have a home like this but I just dont know how to build it.
👏👏Amazing work Down to Earth team in bringing up this sustainable masterpiece to the larger audience.
Hope this inspires the governments and real estate of India and brings about a revolutionary change in the way Urban planning is done!
Thank you
It is a charming house!! I wish I had the land to sow and chase my dream!! Every bit of its building is so well described, a process of relearning goes with it!!
ABSOLUTELY A BLESSING YOUR HOME IS BUILT WITH LOVE!!!ABSOLUTELY BLESSED BEAUTIFUL ECONOMICAL
I LOVED THE WHOLE OF IT .
Thank you so much. We hope to inspire many others to adopt rammed earth buildings
Loved all the different technics used in building, and building such a nice sustainable house, really loved each and everything of it
a really large project and very well executed, a round of applause to whole team from architect to labours. 👌🏼🙏🏻
Yes, everyone worked very hard! Thank you
Wow! Now I have found just the kind of concept I want for my retirement house. How I wish I could whisk this couple and their workmen to Lusaka to supervise my building !!!
Definitely the best place to stay in.
Nice work , congratulations.
The dream house❤
wonderful intelligent presentation of an effort which is so appreciated. thank you for sharing.
absolutely stunning house which is not only beautiful but also sustainable in many ways.
These ideas of sustainability and eco-friendly is an privilege in itself .
How sad na! It was available to everyone and then we ruined our environment so much that it is now a privilege!
Beautiful MashaAllah I am curious to know if hemp is available in your area? And if so, is it being implemented in eco construction as well? I would love to hear your input on that and possibly see hemp buildings that have been made there. Thank you so much for inviting us into your home and your knowledge. It is greatly appreciated. :)
Hemp is not available in our immediate area, but it is available in some villages in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. We have added hemp to our lime mortar and lime plasters in small quantities to give the plaster/ mortar some structure.
Wow!!!Wow!!!AMAZING AS I KEEP WATCHING
thank you, very inspiring.
You should also tell the price incurred in this sustainable house so that people should plan their finances accordingly.
When build a house, the money principle remains unchanged. You build within your budget and what you can afford. These techniques are not expensive.. they only give more money to artisans and less to rich businesses.
@@farmaanandaa ji What has been the cost of land and constructed house in this video?
An amazing structure. I can only imagine the research and hard work that must have gone behind it. Are there AC’s in any of the rooms, or the materials used and ventilation ensure that its stay’s cool enough even in peak Chandigarh heat?
There is no air conditioning in the entire house. The temperature reaches a high of 32C indoors during the peak of summer. With fans and ventilation it remains cool enough.
@@farmaanandaa for reference what is the outside temp?
The energy created to develop this amazing home has all the qualities that nature provides …. knowing how to build without using materials that have a negative affect is the purpose of this construct..living in such a place would be giving back totally… inspiring many to follow your lead would certainly have been achieved..thankyou for sharing ..🌱🌞🌱
this is i've searching for years!!! i'm jealous as every second of the video passed
Pls don't be jealous - that is not our aim! Do try to adopt whatever techniques you can. Thank you
I can see many negative comments but it can be seen as numerous ideas generating video which can be used as per one's requirement....
Thank you
And I thought my 1 lakh rupees budget was big for Mud House. Poor Me !!!
You are thinking about this the wrong way. Everyone has to make a house within their own budgets. But you have to look at this house as a substitute of the concrete and steel structure that could have been built instead. Keep a positive attitude, only then change will happen.
Such a beautiful and practical home. And so well explained. Thank you
Is this my dream....i love this❤ thank you so much ma'am sharing the plan, I'll definitely meet u 🙌♻️
Everything looks good but is the rohtak roof strong enough compared to the concrete ones
Oh yes! We were surprised too!
We have even placed a water tank and solar water heater on one of them.
How we can make our eco house in our 150 gaj corner plot in city ?
You will have to come up with a brief, work with an architect and find the masons. Nothing happens without putting in the effort!
Congrats on this beautiful house. :) It reminds me of the houses in my childhood village. all houses were built from earth and used limewash :) would love to build one myself in the future.
Honestly this video is so engaging I have never forwarded even for a 5 seconds . Such a great home
All thanks to DTE team for making it so engaging. Thank you!
What is the cost to build such house?
The same as building a concrete and steel house.
@@farmaanandaa, please share your contact details, I am looking to construct rammed earth house near Delhi.
Sustainability at the cost of degradation
Not sure what that means. Please elaborate
Masonry is top notch. Hats off. Designs, intention and message all aligns.
Ah this is a stunning property. Thank you for posting this. Truly inspirational.💯
Think if 8 billions people living in house like this will it be sustainable? 😂 not even woods? Or not enough of everything? 😂 sustainable.
Just think if 8 billion people planted a forest on degraded land and built a home of natural materials, how much better the planet would be.
@@farmaanandaa I felt good and appreciated your love & efforts to nature until I read this of your blunt reply.
Nah it's not sustainability.
@farmaanandaa it's easier said than done, Manisha. My wife and I have been searching to buy a small piece of agricultural land for the past 2 years and guess what, it's simply unaffordable. Degraded land you say, show me a way to buy them, I will grab it in an instant. We have tried all options, government offices, PMO, every door. So again I say, it's easier said than done, unless of course I have crores in my bank account, which is what it costs today. So request you to stop generalizing and assuming everyone is in a position to do what you are doing
Beautiful home.
Absolutely stunning, natural and comfortable 🙏
