I saw u reading these books on Goodreads and I was like, "Dang! Jesse is in his Romance phase. That's gotta be some interesting reviews." N you proved me right. Love ur reviews. P.S. That black heart shirt is everything.
I'm completely content with being single and spending Valentine's Day with my dog. I hope you had a wonderful day and showed yourself lots of love :) I'm currently reading "would like to meet" by Rachel Winters (it's a romance?) I'm a fantasy/sci-fi reader, my goal this year is to see if I like other genres or if there are tropes within other genres that I enjoy. It's going decently, I've re-enforced the fact that I don't like nonfiction, classics or essays and I've learnt that I'm not as offended by horror, romance and thriller as I thought I was. I'll be back here next year to see if I'm still just a fantasy/sci-fi reader or if I've fallen for a different genre. I just wanted to put this here and have a place to watch my reading change and develop, I hope this is okay.
I don't read romance books, but you talking about The Bromance Book Club & Lets talk about Love made me want to give them a try! Also, I love the tier ranking at the end😂
I read The Dead Romantics because I saw it on your Goodreads and LOVED it, it was light and wholesome but also managed to tackle more serious topics. The yearning and banter between Florence and Ben? Please that was so good. Also the whole question of what marks we leave behind in the world when we leave it reminded me of the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue so that just made me like it more. And it made me laugh that you also sang "The New Romantics" to the title because I did that too while reading it lmao. The reason why I like Booklovers so much is because Nora is a female romance protagonist who loves her work and the city and competition and instead of going to a smalltown and changing herself in order to fit into Charlie's life she stays herself and he makes her feel more comfortable with being herself around him and they just make each other feel valid and supported, so I didn't mind the obviousness of who the love interest was so much. Great video! Appreciate how much effort you put into the decoration and vibes of this one :)
Oohh, I like the idea of cosy fantasy! Definitely check out Legends and Lattes! Maybe Howl's Moving Castle, if you haven't read it already? Also, I found Cutie and the Beast by E. J. Russell really cute, though it's more of an urban fantasy romance. I also recommend Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews. :)
17:32 I have been feeling this way about marketing based on trope as well! I feel like it almost “gives away” or “spoils” a book. But then I thought maybe that was silly. I’m so glad someone else has felt this way!
Jesse how do you always have the most slay recommendations, and the most fabulous fits. Ugh I love duel pov, what can I say I’m nosy and want to know all the tea. BUT I hate when there is no indication who is talking, maybe I’m just not the brightest bulb of the bunch but I feel like having a name at the top of the page is very helpful.
For a future Read & Rank, what about regency era novels? I always look for ones that are not heavily focused on the romance. I really enjoyed The Silent Governess by Julie Klassen and Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare.
Oh, I am so with you on the surprise element in romance books! I need there to be a bit more mystery as to who the main character is going to fall for!
I really liked The Dead Romantics, too. I actually got it as a Blind Date With a Book and it was a definite hit. As for Meet Cute Club, I think I'll be skipping that. The perspective change thing is what made me very nearly DNF Spinning Silver, so to hear them compared makes me think I probably won't like it.
Great reviews as always, Jesse! Can you do a top closed-door romances that have good chemistry/sizzle between the main characters? I prefer closed-door romances however, a lot of them have absolutely no to barely any chemistry/stream between the two main characters. It's frustrating to me because it's like they assume that closed-door equals prudish. Or maybe the authors of closed-door romances aren't very good at writing chemistry in their stories? Not sure. Anyway, if you could suggest or review good, sizzle-y romances that don't detail everything that goes on in the bedroom, that would be awesome! EDIT: I agree with you about wanting to be surprised on who the love interest is. Korean Romance Dramas do that all the time: sometimes the main character has 2 - 4 potential love interests and you don't find out until over halfway through who the guy is going to be. It makes it fun because you as the reader naturally lean toward a certain character and you find yourself rooting for him. Oh, we also need more butler/mistress books that aren't historical romances. I watched a Japanese Romance drama and it was a trope I didn't know I needed. The butler usually acts like a butler AND a protector/body guard and I'm all for it.
Hey Jesse, this Valentine’s Day I’m spending it reading 📖 ❤ hope everyone has a wonderful day 😊 let’s show ourselves lots of love and be kind 💕 sending you love back Jesse ❤
I read meet cute club via audiobook and I gave it the same rating 3/5. It really had potential to be a 5 star but as you said there were just to many cracks that needed to be filled. For a unique read I highly recommend Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson. Here’s all you need to know. Children go boom. 💣🤯
Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m not single but dearly value the relationships with my family and friends as well. So the day is for everyone! Thanks for talking about these books. Im adding The Dead Romantics to my tbr list right now. I just sampled the book and love it already. I’m going to check out a couple of the others as well. 💕
I would love if you could do books involving music. I feel like they are so hard to find! Also maybe dystopian? But ones that are published after the big dystopian trends of the early 2000s. Or end of the world books? I've been seeing a ton of those recently.
Yay! I'm excited for cozy fantasy read and rank . I notice before you re-did your bookshelves (which look amazing btw) that you had Spiderwick behind you, what if you did a read and rank nostalgic middle grade fantasy?
I'd be curious to see what you think of the book called Happily Ever After by Susan May Warren. It takes place in Minnesota (where I am from) but it's about a woman who wants to start her own bookstore but the house she wants to use needs a lot of work and she ends up hiring a handy man to help who is actually her favorite author but she doesn't know it. I read it quite a few years ago and really liked it, but I have never heard anyone else who read it, so I would enjoy hearing your thoughts!
Lmao....why did I actually visualize Meet Cute Club on a hill bathed in sunshine than promptly rolling back down the hill with rocks and dust. I laughed so hard! Also, Dead Romantics was my favorite book last year!
I loved Must Love Books because I didn’t read the blurb before diving in. It was a great exploration of feeling stuck in your twenties and of Nora’s mental health journey. When I finished reading it, I was surprised to see it tagged as a romance on goodreads, storygraph, and even at my local library!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂Your take on bros had me cracking up! Just from how funny your discription is, I now want to read "The Bromance Book Club." I am like you and not a big romance reader, but that one sounds decent. All of your heart shirts and hearts throughout your video is amazing, that is commitement! I really enjoyed this video. ✌
Ashley poston's book Dead romance is probably on top cuz she a awesome Arthur plus I've been meaning to read it and now that you gave it a really good rating Jessie now I'm definitely going to pick it up cuz I'm very trust your judgment when it comes to you have not gave me a bad book recommendation also you should do a manga one it who be awesome
Would love a cozy fantasy rank and read! Also, I think it'd be really cool to see you do one on books that deal with social justice problems. I've fallen in love with reading those kinds of books just to try and fully understand a different perspective on a problem in our world.
You are also loved (not cheesy at all😅). As soon as a saw you hold up Book Lover I was like “please let him say it was good” I just bought this book last week and haven’t read it yet and I trust your opinion and I really want to like it so thanks for the good review 👍🏻
I’m kind of intrigued by the Dead Romantics… romance and ghosts .. sure it’s been done before (Ghost, Charlie St Cloud, the one with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo) but I’ll still gobble it up!
I read must love books the same week I read by the book just back to back and they were too similar and by the book did it better it's a beauty and the beast retelling approved by Disney
If you want a book where you can't predict who the main character is gonna end up with, you should read the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas . Its fantastic, its got a love triangle, good plot, strong female lead and a lot of suprises. You should definitely check it out.
One genre I've just started to explore is romantic thrillers (Verity, The Wife Upstairs, etc). Like you, I sometimes struggle reading romance because who the love interest will be is SO obvious, and I get bored quickly. But a romantic thriller adds a whole other level of questioning - is this person their soul mate or a killer? lol
I love book lovers!! It was the first romance I read and I love the characters, they made me laugh out loud so many times. The only thing I didn’t like were the spicy scenes. I also want to read the dead romantics! I love this style of video you do and that they were all bookish romances
Hey, I sure I know you I’m pretty sure you have a kindle btw this is my first time watching your channel. And I actually own a kindle too and I follow you. I love the books you read as well.
My guess: 6. Must Love Books 5. Let's Talk about Love 4. The Book Lovers 3. Meet Cute Club 2. The Dead Romantics 1. The Bromance Book Club Me, literally 20 seconds later: Snap, was I wrong
I have read Must Love Books. I found it at a local independent bookstore. I used to work for a smaller academic publisher like Nora did. All the things she went through at work, it felt like the author had stalked me to write her book. 😂 I will agree that Nora made some really dumb decisions that I never would have made, but I related to the mental health issues so much. The author did an amazing job exploring that in the book.
I'm definitely picking up let's talk about love now. I can't wait to read a character that's actively asexual instead of just barely confirmed to be ace and it's never mentioned again!
I wonder if another reason the love interests are always so obvious nowadays is that no one wants to fall back into the typical YA love triangle of the early 2010s that everyone got sick of lol
Who else is reading books instead of going out tonight because you are in the severely single club?
Yep
I saw u reading these books on Goodreads and I was like, "Dang! Jesse is in his Romance phase. That's gotta be some interesting reviews." N you proved me right. Love ur reviews.
P.S. That black heart shirt is everything.
It's the dark button-up with the little white hearts, for me🤭🤭 💕
Yoooo I need some recommendations so baaaadddd
Suggestion for future video:
Ranking books based on how much they made you cry. I love a book which can make me cry. So I need some good recs.
I love the le serrafim reference 😍🤩❤️🔥
1:20 Aww! That's a cute heart! 10 for efforts and presentation.
I’m reading Book Lovers now and I feel similarly to what you were saying. I have The Dead Romantics and am excited to read it!
I'm so impressed by all your Vday heart-themed outfit changes!
🖤🤍💙❤️
haha thank you!!

I’m so happy you liked The Bromance Book Club! It’s not talked about enough. Would be interested in your thoughts on the rest of the series!

dead romantics at the top as it should be 😍😍
That Geekerela series bloops is hilarious 😁😁😁 again again again please 😆
the bloopers are the funniest lmao

Not enough people talk about The Dead Romantics. Seriously. I adored that book ❤
I’m so happy to see The Dead Romantics I feel like not enough people talk about it and it’s amazing 💚
your bookshelves are my goals
I do not usually read romance books but I might check out The Dead Romantics and The Bromance Bookclub

I’d love to see a read and rank with whodunnit novels!
including some classics - like Murder on the Orient Express blew my mind last year!
"Don't forget that you are loved" is the GREATEST outro EVER!!! 💜🖤🥄🤍
I read meet cute club via audiobook and I gave it the same rating 3/5. It really had potential to be a 5 star but as you said there were just to many cracks that needed to be filled. Loved it !!
as a romance reader this was so much fun to watch, and I agree with you Must love books is not a romance
Love the video aesthetic!
I’m not currently in a romance phase (more horror/thriller actually) but I always enjoy good book recommendations! 😊
i love this series so much

Love love loveee the outfits
If you ever decide to do werewolves as a topic, might I suggest The Last Wolf be Maria Vale? I'm obsessed with the series!
Love your ranking system. Your delivery is divine. Cheers and keep up the good work!
