Looking for this! But more specifically for cats. I have been searching for some sort of quick release or breakaway buckles. I was also considering something I haven't seen before - and that is having an elastic insert. Would really appreciate some outside (professional) thoughts.

Can you provide information on the leather type and weight for dog collars and leads?

Hi Paul, We recommend a veg-tanned leather in 8oz-12oz. Wickett & Craig English Bridle is a good choice: www.buckleguy.com/leather-working-supplies/#/Leather-C232/?Type=English+Bridle-F486&Tannery=Wickett+%26+Craig-F518&Cut=Strap%22-F810&noidx=1

Hello, I would like to consult based on the recommendations in this video, we plan to buy the B6226 buckle with the B6854 ring for collars and the B7443 swivel snap for leashes, all in 1" nickel plate. Do you recommend change everything to brass and also change the swivel snap for the 3001A ?? Greetings and thank you very much for this information.

      Happy to help!
The only thing we would worry about changing is the B7443, because both it is a lever snap and not solid brass, so would only be reliable as a leash for very small dogs. A bolt or trigger snap would be safer. For the collar, the B6226 and B6854 are both great. They are all actually solid brass too. We make most of our hardware in our own factory out of Low-Lead Solid Brass because it is the best. The nickel plate refers to the finish where you get the shiny color, but the hardware itself is solid brass. Look for the "Solid Brass-LL" at the end of the product titles to be sure.
Glad the video was helpful for you! Please tag is in a photo of the finished products with #buckleguy

Thanks for making the video. I only use solid brass and stainless steel for swivel snaps for dog leashes. Any issue with using stainless steel? I raise guide dogs for Guide Dogs of America. I really need a good source for chains for Martindale dog collars which is what we use. The chain has to be welded. I had one fail when my puppy lunged when I was dropping him off at the Kennel. Guide Dogs of America had a few fail when they used a different supplier and had mistakenly bought ones where the chain was not welded.

@@dougsobel2571 Hi Doug. Thanks for the comment. Steel is plenty strong enough. The only thing is with steel you cannot get the same finishes like we can offer for the brass. As for chain, we do supply chain, but it is not soldered, so would not be safe to use for anything that is not purely decorative. Good luck with your collars, and thanks for the good work that you do!

@@Buckleguycom variety of finished isn't important for leashes. My leashes use 2 swivel snaps and 2 O rings. I won't use any plating or finish that will wear off so pure brass or stainless steel. No antique finishes ect...
