    Angelo Bruno had it right. Low key just like Carlo Gambino. I admire Bruno for doing everything he could to avoid violence and not attract attention. That is using your brain.

      Correct Al ! Angelo Bruno did it right ! Exactly like Carlo Gambino! They had more than just 2 things in common , but I'll mention 2 things : 1) Bruno and Gambino were paison ( they had a close bond and friendship similar 2 the bond between brothers. 2) " they were old school !" ( the complete opposite of Gotti during his reign as boss of Gambino's !

      Scimmia: Scimmia your recent message regarding not admiring Angelo Bruno was directed 2 Al Gray. Al and myself were messaging one another. First allow me 2 get this point out of the way. If u look at the context of Al's message he stated he admired Angelo Bruno boss of the Bruno Family 4 doing everything he could 2 avoid violence , hence he and I were both commenting about that. Bruno's nickname was The Docile Don vecus he didn't believe in bloodshed. And that is admirable when u think about it! And actually Bruno being known as a docile Mob boss is one of the reasons why Bruno was killed. Avoiding bloodshed and killing even when it jeopardized his own life is admirable! It may even be heroic in some eyes! Now let's discuss your point which was Bruno is not admirable becus he was extorting thousands of honest people. I wish u would elaborate who Bruno was extorting! But save it becus I'll tell u who he was extorting . Case and point: First I don't even think Angelo Bruno was ever charged with extortion in a court of law. I will fact check that and get back 2 u on that. All Mob family's used extortion as a tactic 2 earn money. But I will tell u this the Mob never ever extorted the poor! I repeat the Mob never extorted the poor! That would be useless and a big waste of time. Who were targets of extortion 4 the Mob? Businessmen and businesses ! But even as far as extorting businesses is concerned is even niw a thing of the past ! Hit me up if u like 2 reply .

    • @emilsabatini4038
      @emilsabatini4038 2 роки тому

      2day the Mob still exists but things have changed and nobody wants 2 do time in prison believe me! Extortion is a tactic of the past . It's an obsolete tactic!

      @@OCSHORTZ oh yeah it would be perfect. They should even keep Harvey Keitel as Angelo Bruno. Then they gotta think of somebody good to play Nicky Scarfo and Phil Leonetti. Then transfer into Stanfa and Merlino. I think a mini series would be better. Like I always thought they should make a show like boardwalk empire but set in the 70’s and 80’s. With a mini series you can flesh out the characters fully as well as the story. You’d be able to include everything. From Bruno to Merlino, from Scarfo to Stanfa, and then from Stanfa to Merlino. Also include the other families in it as well like boardwalk did cities. Like have a couple of the NY families in the show as well especially the Genovese family who is the family that Philly is represented by to the commission. Also have Chicago as well bc they are a huge huge part of not just LCN but the commission as well. During the 70’s especially they were THE most powerful family in the nation.

      According to his nephew scarfo was extremely paranoid well before he took the top job in the family.
      His paranoia filled violence wasn't so much about "the young guys getting rebellious" as it was about him only understanding how to rule through fear.
      His fall from power was preordained, if it hadn't been the feds it would've been an internal palace coup (most likely sponsored by family allies in NYC) that would've been his ultimate end.

    I was a kid when Angelo Bruno got murdered. I lived in Camden, across the bridge, and I remember all the papers and tv stations carrying that image of Angelo's mouth wide open. I didnt know who he was back then, but I still remember that image and Rizzo- the Philly mayor coming on tv. I also remember when the Philly mob got involved in Camden city hall with Milton Milan who I went to school with and grew up around the corner from Bailey st and Milton wound up going to jail on corruption, though Milton was always running with drug crews as a kid. Man, crazy times.

    Salvy actually asked Scarfo for permission to call off the wedding. Scarfo played both sides (Testa & Merlino) against one another because he saw an article in a magazine that named Salvy Testa as the fastest rising mobster at that time & called him a future boss & the prince of the Philly mob. So, Scarfo was paranoid. Even when the wedding was still on, Scarfo, in prison at the time down in El Paso, Texas doing 2 years, thought that Testa marrying a Merlino meant an eventual take over. So he told Salvy to “not worry about it & spread yourself around. You’re young. Don’t worry, I’ll make it right with Chucky Merlino.” Then he went to Chucky & told him that he was dishonored, etc. Scarfo was a paranoid snake with probably the worst case of Napoleon Syndrome in history!

    • @mariocassar4135
      @mariocassar4135 3 роки тому +16

      Totally agree , scarfo was already envious of salvies reputation among the the philly mob and beyond. He thought with the union of testa and chuckys family would have made salvie even more powerful and a threat to scarfo who knew he didn’t have the same loyal following as salvie did , he was only feared not respected.

    • @yusufg.1281
      @yusufg.1281 2 роки тому

      Who told you this, Salvy or Scarfo? You don't seem to understand Italian gangster culture. If you humiliate the daughter of a made man, in any way, it's a death sentence. Breaking off an engagement to an underboss's daughter is a guaranteed death sentence.
      He asked for permission TO marry her and if he had permission to change his mind he would not have been killed.
      Don't tell me you believe the dufus reporter who pretended to know "the real reason" against Caramandi who was a made member and was given the contract to kill him?

    • @yusufg.1281
      @yusufg.1281 2 роки тому

      Also, the more successful a soldier is the more money the boss makes, so why he not like it that his best friend's son was good at his job?
      I seriously doubt the decision was made based on a newspaper article deciding to write a story. It's not like they can control the press. Mike Franzese had the same thing happen but wasn't killed by the Persicos, who were far more treacherous than the Philly mob or Scarfo! They like money. And being written about isn't exactly a reason to kill someone. It's silly how many people take the dufus reporter seriously.
      That would mean a journalist got him killed. I doubt he/she feels responsible. George Anastasia is an idiot who only appears on these docs because his last name ends in a vowel and people will assume this means he knows things.
      But nobody would tell such a dufus anything.

If they had just shared a percentage of the profits to keep their soldiers' happy, they would have reaped the rewards. The same is true in politics today. Keep your people well fed and happy. I'm from NYC and I agree. Salvie Testa was well liked and Scarfo was feared. He should have been underboss or a caporegime. All this was the result of a scheming Brooklyn Mobster named Funzi Tieri.
      He played Tony Bananas Caponigro to kill Angelo Bruno and told him he'd be Boss after that. So this Caponigro takes his poor cousin to NYC thinking he's gonna be made Boss of Philly thinking Funzi was the boss of Genovese. The real Boss was Vinny the Chin! They took Tony to a basement where Chin and Funzi were waiting. Chin asked him who gave you the ok to whack Bruno?
      Funzi looks at him cold,Tony says
      "Funzi told me". Funzi says "I told you to straighten it out, not whack him!". They kill Tony right there with bats. Violate his body and call his unfortunate cousin or whatever for the same treatment and dump the bodies. Then back in Philly they kill
      Chicken Man Testa with a nail bomb!
      The only ones left are Nicky Scarfos
      crew vs Bruno's cousin Hit man and Capo Johnny Keys Simone! The Commission votes in favor of Scarfo
      because he runs AC. So Johnny Keys
      is marked for death. Watch the Johnny Keys hit by Sammy the Bull
      it's better than a movie. Johnny Keys
      was a real one also. Scarfo was just a jealous,greedy,evil dude and screwed the rest of the Philly Mafia.

    " the Philly Mob"! With the exception of Anthony Tony Banana's Caponigro everyone in the Bruno / Scarfo family located Newark, N.J. ( Down Neck) came away unharmed during the maniacal war between Testa, Scarfo, Merlino ! We grew up all around the Bruno Scarfo family members, associates, clubs, way of life! We were in shock when Banana's was taken out ! We were close with the Caponigro family! The historical facts of the Bruno /Scarfo family molded us whether we wanted it or not. For the most part I can testify that back in the day in Newark, N J. Down Neck ; the other backyard 4 the Bruno Scarfo family in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's life was like a script from a Hollywood movie! Because of the members of this family all around us families could sleep better at night because we knew our neighborhoods and streets were guarded by these men who for the most part were patriotic, loved country, and family and except 4 " la cosa nostra" they were men of dignity, honor, respect , and pride! For the ones who have passed I pray that God grant them mercy and peace!
