Peter, I just bought a Festool Domino 500. I needed to join 1+1/4" legs for a "spider coffee table" that has legs cut at weird angles. My biscuit cutter just wasn't the right tool. The biscuit cutter is going up for sale. You are a wonderful teacher! I bought the Domino joiner with all the accessories you demonstrated. After I purchased the Domino joiner, I figured out how the accessories mounted but had no idea of which situations you would use them. UA-cam and Peter to the rescue. Your video demonstrated that perfectly. Festool should hire you to demonstrate their tools. Your video covered everything about the tool from A to Z. Plus you made me laugh several times with your humor...."sod's law" aka what we yanks call Murphys Law. Thank you so much for the time you spent making this extremely helpful video. I wish the U.S. would get rid of our antiquated and cumbersome imperial measuring system. So many valuable tips in your video. I especially liked your tips on how to set the depth.

As I have probably said in the video - the Domino machine has completely transformed my approach to cabinet work. It is a delight to use and has really improved the enjoyment of my woodwork. Cheers. Peter
Great video Pete. Thanks mate. I was flicking from the English section of the manual back and forth with the picture at the front to identify parts and try to remember the connection in my head as I read on which was slow going. Thanks to your video I also got all the bonus tips and tricks to set me off with my machine. Hi Zephyr, The Domino has really changed my woodworking for the better - joints are really easy, designs come to fruition quickly and woodworking enjoyment is maximized. Cheers. Peter
Thank you for this video, I did buy the Domino Set and your video makes using this tool much more enjoyable. I used your parf guide system to make my "MFT" table now using the Milwaukee track saw.
Just had to watch it again. My domino arrives the other day and the kit will be here in a couple of weeks, , Festool is hard to get right now in the USA. Most things get back ordered .Keep up the good work Peter.
Comprehensive and informative as usual, great job Peter. Loved the magic trick at 13' 38" on the timeline when the ruler hops from your left to your right on the bench. Magic Circle here we come!
Hi Gareth, I have only just spotted that - I have told that ruler to keep still in my videos but it just ignores me. It works well as a rule but can be very disobedient ! Peter
Hi Peter, I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in the US Air Force in the early 70. I had the great pleasure of working part time in the Wood hobby shop while I was there. The shop manager was English gentleman who was a true craftsman. Watching your video reminded me of him his name was Bill. Bill was a wealth of knowledge in woodworking.
You refer to screwing the spring-loaded lugs on the faceplate out of the way. Like you I have found these very annoying and sometimes upset alignment but I did not know they could be locked away. I've just done this! Thank you - I always pick up useful tips from your videos.
Hi James, Many thanks for this. I also have the DF700 and the pins on that can be retracted and they stay that way until released. I believe that the older DF500 machines had something similar but it was changed at some point. My DF500 is over 10 years old and does not have that capability. Cheers. Peter
New Brit Workshop Hi Peter. You are correct regarding the older DF 500. I have the same version you have with the newer style pins. But I bought the old style base for the DF-500 because I like the older style pins better and I have the newer style base as a spare.

Thank you for this great video. I'm about to take delivery of my first domino with the accessories and this video was incredibly informative and will help me greatly getting started with it.
Terrific video with clear explanation and demonstrations. These tools have become extraordinarily difficult to obtain due the supply chain problems from the pandemic; right now if you try to order a 500 from the typical suppliers in the US they are quoting a backlog of orders of 6 months or more.
Peter, yet another excellent video, and agree with others, they add value, are clear and to the point - all with a nice style of presentation Thank you for all the info you included and will now buy one with confidence. Thanks again and keep up the good work. rgds Geoff
Hi Geoff, I used to have a big morticing machine but still had to make the tenons the hard way. I sold that machine and also my Lamello biscuit jointer and bought the DF500 from Axminster with a few accessories. That transformed my woodworking and I just wish that I had done it earlier. The Domino is a fantastic machine and mine is now 11 or 12 years old. It has never gone wrong and I am still using the original cutters. I have gone through many bags of 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm dominos and made some excellent joints (and the odd bish-up through haste or stupidity). Many thanks for your super feedback. Cheers. Peter
Excellent video. Another instructor suggested when you are using the Domino machine in the vertical position the easiest way to turn it on is to pinch the switch. That is place your thumb at the bottom of the Domino housing and index finger on the top of the switch and pinch together. Try it you will like it.
Hello Peter, Thank you very much for this introduction film. Thanks for sharing your experience, this film gives me, as a novice, a very good start how to use it. I ordered my Domino by end of June 2021. With luck it will be delivered by November 2021. Have a good time and stay save. Regards Andreas
Hi Andreas, Many thanks for the kind words. Festool kit is not cheap but worth every penny and the Domino is a real game changer - you will love it. Demand has always been high but waiting another few of months may seem tough - it will be worth it. I am waiting for a new German made motorhome and the delivery date has slipped several times due to Covid. We expect delivery in February having first thought it would be in November. Waiting makes it all so much more exciting. Cheers. Peter
I've had my Domino for a while now, and through lots of trial and error I've have managed to figure most things by now. I wish this video had existed when I purchased mine, it would have save a lot of mistaken domino cuts and frustration. This is a fantastic reference video for all. Thank you for creating it Peter
Most intuitive Festool Domino I've viewed. I was considering the purchase of the DF500 and after watching Peter's video and can see why this will be a welcome addition to my shop. Very much appreciate the tips such as hydraulic locking on MDF, the detailed features of the tool not covered in other videos, and much more.
Thank you! I've used mine off and on for several years (so I have to reinvent the wheel every winter when I resume my woodworking) and offset domino's have always left me confused. This helps. Now I use the wings to setup cuts along a long edge and find them very useful. But being a bit of a klutz the Domino slipped and I dropped it; breaking the dovetail insert. Lucky for me Festool sells that part and shipping was (in the States) a flat $5. A life saver! Thanks again!
Thank you, Peter. Just received my Domino machine last night. Even with 50 years of professional woodworking experience, I found your introductory presentation highly valuable --- probably the equivalent of the first several hours that would have been spent getting accustomed to the specific nuts and bolts of this marvelous innovation. (Also saved me having to listen to my hollow chisel and slot mortising machines jeer and ultimately weep...) Cheers!
This was a great video Thank you it will help me alot to understand my NEW tool. In the US it comes complete with all the assortment of attachments but you pay more for the unit
I found this incredibly helpful after my day of trying to do these exact joins for the first time with a domino. I was ready to give up woodworking entirely I was so frustrated! Thank you for explaining these concepts so well, I look forward to trying again tomorrow :)
Well done! I have this on order along with the extra box of dominos and bits. I feel this video really helped me understand the tool and will help me get right to work with it. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you for a wonderful comprehensive video. I was hesitating which to buy 500 or 700. I have seen many videos covering Domino, but I finally found all answers I've been seeking in your video.

Thank you so much for making this. Its a really a one-stop-shop for knowing how to start with this machine.
You're very welcome!
Thank you very much Peter! I've bought the domino but only now I'm ready to start!! Greetings from Switzerland..
Hi Stefano, Well done and good luck. Cheers. Peter
Excellent video. Another instructor suggested when you are using the Domino machine in the vertical position the easiest way to turn it on is to pinch the switch. That is place your thumb at the bottom of the Domino housing and index finger on the top of the switch and pinch together. Try it you will like it.
Thanks for the info!
Absolutely brilliant machine! A professional can recover the cost of the ecosystem in a heartbeat 💗
Hi Manu, All my tools have paid for themselves and in some cases several times over. Cheers. Peter
Hello Peter,
Thank you very much for this introduction film.
Cheers. Peter
Way better than their own festool live. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Hi Tim, Thank you so much - which country are you in? Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop I’m in the United States... had a festool Domino on back order for about a month now. COVID really has them behind over here
Brilliant video! Just bought a domino that arrived today. Feel a lot more confident in using it now this weekend. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Much appreciated demonstration. Thank you sir.
Very welcome
I've had my Domino for a while now, and through lots of trial and error I've have managed to figure most things by now. I wish this video had existed when I purchased mine, it would have save a lot of mistaken domino cuts and frustration. This is a fantastic reference video for all. Thank you for creating it Peter
Hi Jack, You are very kind. Cheers. Peter
Hi Paul, Thank you so much. Good luck with your new tool. Cheers. Peter
Thanks Peter, I just got a 500 this helps more than Festool’s videos😊
Great video - super informative. Love that it's just straight information. Thank you - well done!
Hi Ken, Many thanks. Peter
Great watch Peter!!
One the best around for information on projects & tools 👍
Hi Brian, Many thanks. Peter
Thanks for this excellent video! I just got one and this video is everything I needed to get started 👏🏼
Great to hear! Cheers. Peter
This was a great video
Thank you it will help me alot to understand my NEW tool. In the US it comes complete with all the assortment of attachments but you pay more for the unit
Hi Thomas, Glad it helped. Cheers. Peter
Best how to domino video I’ve seen yet!
Hi Jay, You are very kind. Cheers. Peter
I found this incredibly helpful after my day of trying to do these exact joins for the first time with a domino. I was ready to give up woodworking entirely I was so frustrated! Thank you for explaining these concepts so well, I look forward to trying again tomorrow :)
Glad it helped! Peter
This is an exceptional video! Thank you!
Many thanks - it is a brilliant tool that has completely transformed my approach to cabinet making. Cheers. Peter
Well done! I have this on order along with the extra box of dominos and bits. I feel this video really helped me understand the tool and will help me get right to work with it. Thanks for doing this.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers. Peter
Thank you for a wonderful comprehensive video. I was hesitating which to buy 500 or 700. I have seen many videos covering Domino, but I finally found all answers I've been seeking in your video.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers. Peter
