Great video my friend. I recently got a Helix 5 fish finder and want to use it for ice fishing and this video really helps me to mount it securely. Where would I be able to purchase the screen cover for the unit, it didn’t come with one. Thanks
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Thanks you, I found it on Amazon but a lot of bad reviews saying the soft cover is very tight and rips. Hopefully they fixed the issue. Thanks again.
...i did same with my Garmin unit, ....take a look at Trophy Angler electronics cover, fits over genz box and keeps blowing snow out and protects unit from getting dinged up in sled, can be had only 10 bucks ...has flaps front and reel ,carry handle pockets on side
thetom101 I believe it will you just have to get the Garmin transducer. And you will have to use bigger batteries with the 9 inch screen I would think.

@@WaterandIceOutdoors Thanks for video and the reply, I have a 7ah battery laying around that I might test before I decide on upgrading. I'm definitely new to this hard water stuff but excited to get into it!
Great video another tip go on ebay and get the cheap screen savers for 8 inch or 7 inch tablets on ebay i got 3 for 4 bucks and put those on ur screen protects it from water spots and scratches and tungsten jig hits 🖒
How's the battery held up using the Helix 7? I hear those units suck up battery big time! I have a 698 series, which is a few years older than the Helix models, and it's lasted all day for me.
Fishlovme Peterson With a conventional flasher battery you get about four hrs on full brightness. I’ve since upgraded to a 12ah lithium battery and now get 16 hrs on full brightness with the glow ring and Ice Defense units running on the same battery. I would highly recommend getting lithium if you are going to use a Helix on the ice. Thanks for watching!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Can you tell me where you purchased your lithium ion battery and what the cost was? A link would be great if you ordered it online if you have it. Thanks I look forward to constructing the box later this week or next week.

Wow, great video! I have the exact unit that I'm going to mount on a Genz box so this is perfect. Do you use a regular lead battery or do you use lithium ion? I'm wondering about the battery life as I know the Helix uses some juice.
CZYK Republic Thanks for watching and the kind words! If you have the $$ to spend on it I would recommend a lithium battery. The Helix units are so powerful they tend to drain standard 12v batteries quickly. Just make sure the lithium battery will fit in the Genz Box. The battery space it pretty tight.
Would this system run the standard open water transducer for your boat if you were looking to make a multi season portable unit. ( that is if a portable transducer mount was part was already take care of)
OrbitalAndrew Yes it would! You can use this on the boat with an open water Helix transducer and and ice fishing unit with the ice fishing ducer from Humminbird.
Thanks for the video! Does it have zoom? I usually fish 30-70 feet of water and really curious how it will do, I’m pretty sure the 2D chirp does but does the traditional graph zoom? Thanks!
Eric Raspotnik Thanks for watching! Yes it does have zoom. Honestly though I think you’ll find the 2d much more sensitive (in a good way) than the dial graph. I barely use the dial graph anymore
I don’t know the exact dimensions but it fits a regular sized flasher battery or same sized lithium battery perfectly. I would suggest the 12 amp lithium. Regular flasher battery will only get you about three hours of run time on this setup. Thanks for watching!

The xi9 1521 is not needed for DI gps. It's for the Chirp technology, so if your unit has Chirp, the 1521 is fine, otherwise if it does not have chirp spend a little less money and buy the xi9 20 for it.
