  • This year, we have challenged ourselves to go after and acquire as many Jeep Badge Of Honor badges for our rigs. With the weather in Atlanta in the mid 30's, this seemed like the perfect time to head south and pick up Florida's only Jeep badge. Just outside of Orlando, located in Ocala National Forest is the Tread Lightly Trail.
    The Tread Lightly Trail is classified as a 1-4 on the Jeep Badge Of Honor. While this adventure is not packed full of giant rock gardens, switch backs and cliff sides, it does have its own unique challenges known only to Florida like soft sugary sand that almost acts like quick sand, a few water forging sections that are very soft at the bottom from sitting stagnate for so long and very very tight pathways that will for sure leave its mark on the side of your Jeep.
    We spent 3 days in Ocala and explored much of what this 18 mile National Forest had to offer. While on our exploration, we came upon a Navy Bomb Testing Area in which we were able to catch a couple of F18 fighter jets flying maneuvers over the base, shooting large 50 cal shells at ground targets. The kind of stuff you only see in movies and tv shows.
    Join us on our 3 day adventurer, 5 hrs south of Atlanta as we take on the Tread Lightly Trail and obtain our Jeep Badge Of Honor badges.

    That sunset in Florida is orange and blue 🐊. Surely that’s what inspired the University of Florida to pick those colors.

      No doubt. It’s definitely even more stunning in person (cameras never do it justice)

    The secret sauce is to have it waxed or ceramic coated BEFORE you drive that trail. There's much less friction and it actually pin stripes the coating making it much easier to wax / buff out. Experience from Texas trails. I work about 45 minutes north of the Ocala trail and frequent the system, but will stay away from many of the trails. To me, the trails marked for plated vehicles should be better groomed than they are. Interesting, a month or two ago they serviced the trails for the hunters, but care less about folks that like to frequent the trail system.

      Ceramic wrap the Jeep before you go to Ocala National Forest 👍🏼

      As a Florida Panhandle Jeeper riding the same type of trails I agree. It makes the scratches less deep, or at least it doesn't sound as bad.

    It was fun for us old guys back in 1975...we'd go out to the "canal diggin's". Sorry bout the Ocala rain demons.!! Hope you all enjoyed it.

      We loved it.... Even though we did the full Tread Lightly Trail, there was still so much more to explore there. I want to come back.

    Saw the video, I was there about 1 month ago for first time... beautiful sights but yes the trails are too narrow, scratched my 4runner bad. Bomb sight you got lucky, we didn't see any while we were there. Stay safe 🤘

      oh man... I can imagine. I believe the 4runner is a bit wider than a jeep. I bet it got you good.
      Non the less, we really enjoyed the adventure through Florida.

    Listening to all of the scratchy noises, made me want to buff my Jeep just because. I cannot believe they don't do a better job with trail grooming, especially if it's a Jeep Badge of Honor trail.

      Oh man… it was BAAAAAAD. I don’t get why they don’t trim it up also. Thankfully most was surface scuffs and were easily buffed out but there were a few scuffs that are still there for fun campfire stories.

    Great video. By the way, the ".50 cal" on the F/A-18 is actually an M61 Vulcan 20mm cannon (.78 caliber) - a whole lot faster firing, bigger, and cooler than a .50 cal.

      @RoadRashOffRoad  7 місяців тому

      Thank you Atom Hart.... and thank you for clarifying. Someone with us said it was a 50 so I went with it, but I don't know much about military artillery. What I do know is THAT MOMENT WAS SIIIIIIICK, and that 20mm sounded so freakin cool.

    Great video but if you're going to 4wheel you can't cry about paint or mud. Maybe you should do some Herculiner or something.

      no ones crying..... it's a jeep and I use mine as a jeep. I was only expressing "what to expect" for those who are curious about this trail. it will leave marks.

    Running into that issue a lot with the trails not being actual use for full size vehicles. Even though the maps state they are. We get halfway down a trail and there’s no turning back.

      Ocala national forest has “walking trails” for Jeep trails 😂

    Great video but I’m not getting out of a vehicle in that crap. No alligators for me lol where I am in the upper halves of Alabama and Georgia are fine with me because no alligators (except like 3 or 4 only in summer that jerks on meth bring up and release illegally, for some reason, but they always go back South pretty quickly), cooler weather, mountains, and pines in the place of sharp palmettos, are a preference to me haha

    • @RoadRashOffRoad
      @RoadRashOffRoad  5 місяців тому

      ha ha ha... I guess I would agree with you if I had come across them in the wild. Fortunately, I have never seen one. The minute I do, I will probably not go back 😂
      Thank you for the compliments on the vid. as a content creator, it takes a long time to film and edit 1 video so its nice to get a "good job" every once and a while

    I don't understand why this is a jeep trail. I mean no disrespect but my moms Buick could go everywhere you went on this trail. Why is it a "Jeep" trail? It looks like nice scenery, and looks like you had a good time, but there was nothing I saw that you would need a 4WD vehicle for. Are there more challenging trials there?

    • @RoadRashOffRoad
      @RoadRashOffRoad  10 місяців тому +2

      Hey… thank you for watching my video. As part of the Jeep Badges of honor trails, there is not a lot that is “difficult “ with this trail. The only semi difficult parts are some standing water which makes the bottom very very soft and some deep white sandy areas that could bury your wheels. Not sure moms Buick would make it here. Other than that, the trails are very tight. You’ll be dodging trees and getting alot of scratches on the Jeep. This is Florida which means it relatively flat everywhere.
      Since the Jeep Badge of Honor numbers their difficulty from 1-10, there has to be a “1” on that list somewhere… and there it is.
      Overall, it’s a fun scenic adventure that’s not too difficult. It makes for a great overlanding trip where the weather is always warm.

    How long did it take for you guys to finish the BOH trail? Thinking about doing it and taking my 5yr old 🖤

    • @RoadRashOffRoad
      @RoadRashOffRoad  7 місяців тому

      We split it into two days... a northern side and southern side. I think you could easily do it in about 1.5 days.... technically you could probably ride the entire BOH trial in 8-9 hrs but no stopping and no exploring. the best part of this ride for us was the camping. Your 5 yr old would absolutely LOVE it. some of the clearest sky I have seen. if you have a telescope, now would be a good time to pack it up and bring it along with you... Make sure you bring some bug spray also.

    Great video, alot of work putting that together. Planning on the Gulches trip next month, be cool if you video that trip. Check out Drew Simms youtube videos for some ideas on setting up shelves/sleep arrangements in the back of your Jeep.
