My name is Kevin Swan with Road Rash Off Road. I am just an adventure filmmaker who is passionate about my Jeep, overlanding, camping and off roading.
Modding my Jeep is a hobby of mine. Maybe it makes me feel like I'm 18 yrs old again - #midlifecrisis. We all know this hobby can be quite expensive but it doesn't have to be. I personally don't have "deep pockets" to get all of the things done I would like to so I often begin to search and find deals on quality, inexpensive upgrades and DIY install them myself in my garage.
Follow my channel to see the next upgrade and / or review of my favorite and least favorite mods to my Jeep as well as my overlanding adventures with my friends and family.

270 Awning by Naturnest: For Overlanding Rigs
Installing the Naturnest 270 Awning: Overland Overhaul Episode 5
If you’re an off-road enthusiast or overlanding adventurer, you know the importance of comfort and versatility when setting up camp. One piece of gear that can elevate your setup is the Naturnest 270 Awning, offering 172 square feet of shade and protection. In Episode 5 of my Overland Overhaul series, I installed this impressive awning on my Jeep, and I’m here to break down the process for you in this blog.
Why Choose the Naturnest 270 Awning?
For those new to overlanding, or even seasoned adventurers, adding an awning to your rig provides essential protection from the elements. The Naturnest 270 Awning is a great option because it’s:
• Spacious: Covers up to 172 square feet, enough to provide shade from the front to the rear of your vehicle.
• Durable: Made from high-quality, waterproof fabric that blocks 99% of UV rays, ensuring sun protection and keeping you dry in rainy conditions.
• Quick Setup: The six retractable aluminum alloy support poles are lightweight yet sturdy, and the entire setup takes just five minutes.
• Built for Adventure: LED lights make it perfect for night use, while the ability to stand freely without poles makes it versatile for any camping situation.
Now, let’s get into how I installed this awning on my Jeep.
Unboxing the Naturnest 270 Awning
The Naturnest 270 Awning arrives with everything you need for a smooth installation:
• The main awning unit.
• Six adjustable aluminum support poles.
• Fixed ropes and hooks for securing the awning.
• Built-in LED light kit.
• All necessary hardware.
Before starting the install, I made sure I had my tools ready-socket wrenches, a ratchet, and a drill for securing the hardware to my roof rack.
Testing the Awning in Real-World Conditions
Once installed, I took the awning out for a test run. We faced some strong winds and a bit of rain, and I’m happy to report that the Naturnest 270 Awning held up beautifully. The adjustable aluminum poles stayed strong in the wind, and the fabric kept us dry throughout the rainstorm. I especially appreciated the ease with which the poles fold away when not in use-simple, effective, and sturdy.
Why You Need the Naturnest 270 Awning for Overlanding
Whether you’re camping, overlanding, or just enjoying a day at the beach, the Naturnest 270 Awning is an essential piece of equipment for any outdoor enthusiast. Here’s why:
• Quick Setup: The entire install took less than an hour. Future deployments will be even faster-just pull it out, adjust the poles, and you’re good to go.
• Spacious Coverage: With over 170 square feet of coverage, it provides more than enough room to keep your gear, kitchen, or family shaded.
• Durability: The high-quality materials and construction can withstand various outdoor conditions, making it a reliable part of your overlanding kit.
• Lighting for Night Use: The built-in LED lights make it functional after the sun goes down, perfect for extending your camp experience into the evening.
Final Thoughts
The Naturnest 270 Awning was an easy, effective upgrade for my Jeep. With its fast installation, superior coverage, and durable construction, it’s the perfect addition for anyone looking to enhance their overland adventures. If you’re interested in seeing the full process, check out Episode 5 of the Overland Overhaul series on my Road Rash Off-Road UA-cam channel for all the details.

Kenda Klever M/T Mud Tire Review: 3 Years and almost 70,000 Miles Later

When it comes to off-road adventures, one of the most important decisions you can make is choosing the right set of tires. Whether you’re conquering rugged trails, rock crawling, or plowing through mud and sand, your tires are what keep you going. Three years ago, I faced that very decision with my 2015 Jeep Wrangler JKU, and after a lot of research, I took a chance on the Kenda Klever M/T mud ...

How did you know this was in my Amazon cart?? I got the damn rtt thanks to you!

Jeep trail riding- old bucktown / nimblewill. Equinox AWD tackle Indian grave gap, Trey mtn & Dunaway gap forest roads. Hiking Brasstown Bald & Red Top Mtn, Blue Hole & High Shoals Falls. Helen, GA for oktoberfest Reformation and Daily Draft
Man… that is some adventure list there !!!! Bravo. Throw in some fishing at Lake Conasauga in the Cohutta and target practice at Sumac outdoor range and you’ve hit everything. However last I heard, Trey MTN is still closed (at least the fun back side)
For anyone looking for light off-road and overlanding, while also having great on-road behavior, on the dirt cheap, I can recommend Triangle AgileX AT. Chinese brand, dirt cheap, haven't disappointed me. Obviously not great for deep mud or rock crawling, but I've climbed mountain peaks with them, and also done a lot of highway driving. Pretty good in both scenarios.
Awesome man... I'll have to look them up. I have never heard of them.
This is a great tire! I have the R/T and same thing about three years ago and a ton of mileage. It’s my daily driver, been to Florida and New Jersey twice from New Hampshire. It’s done everything I’ve asked and then some. It’s has held up amazingly well with no tears or chips in the tire either. Being in the Granite State, it’s held up against them as well. Highly recommend the Kenda Klevar, weather R/T or M/T.
Thank you Peter. You know, I just installed my next set of Kenda Klevers. These are the MT2, 2nd generation and let me just say, these are the best off road tires so far. With my previous Kenda M/T, they rode pretty ruff in the beginning. Like the vibrating hum of an actual mud tire. These 2nd generation MT2 are shockingly very quiet and smooth, even as aggressive as they appear. They ride as quite and smooth as a A/T but has the giant grooves of a MT. I am so shocked. I love the new Kenda's even more than my old Kendas. I will be releasing an update / install / review video of these very soon.
@@RoadRashOffRoad awesome, I can’t wait for the review of the MT2s! My wife’s JLU is a pavement princes, so thinking of going with the AT2s for her over the BFG KO3s.
Did you jack up the car or it was on the ground the whole time
I did not jack up the car. There is no tension on the drive shaft and no need to jack it up.
@@RoadRashOffRoad oh okay
Good Review seen plenty your videos, I believe those tires lived a good full life!! I like my Nittos but I’ve taken a couple chunks out of the tread of them. By next year I’ll be replacing my tires (and wheels), I’ll put Kenda Klever in my watchlist.
Thank you 🙏🏼. I have been super impressed with Kenda. In fact, I’ve just put their M/T2 (2nd generation mud tire) on the jeep and I am ecstatic at how beefy they look and how quiet they are. Wait until you see the new video
@@RoadRashOffRoad can’t wait, gotta see them new wheels too
I’m wondering how rainproof the box is when you are driving?
The RTT? 100% rainproof. The entire top of the RTT is one big piece of PVC and when it is closed, the sides overlap. It is next to impossible for any rain to get in while it is closed and you are moving.
Updated video on this tent? how many night do you have in it so far?
I have spent about 20 total nights in this tent. Mostly in warm / hot climate. I haven’t spent many colder evenings yet, however I have a trip coming up this weekend and it will be cooler in the night. I will film a full update video on this tent while I’m at camp this weekend. Right off the bat I can tell you there are several great things I like and a few things I don’t. Things I like: It is very roomy - Unlike some of the other RTT’s, since this one lifts straight up on all 4 corners, it has a lot of room inside and you definitely don’t feel cramped or claustrophobic. 4 windows - I LOVE that there are windows / screens on all 4 sides. It makes for amazing scenic views and air passing through. Lightweight - since it’s not a hard shell, it is fairly lightweight on top of the rig. LED Lights - the LED light strip on the inside, adds just enough light and is not too overpowering at night time. Stable - the gas struts on all four corners are very strong. I have had this in winds of 20+ miles an hour and the tent was not even moving. I was comfortable. Dislikes, There are not many but a couple: Pack up - breaking down camp and closing the tent is not fast and takes a little bit of work to pull and stuff all the fabric in. Storage - Because it is not a hard shell, there is no ability to utilize the top of the tent as additional storage. I have seen some other tents that have additional roof rack storage on top to carry things like Max tracks, solar panels, Even extra fuel.
@@RoadRashOffRoad thank you for that update! I just ordered it! Can’t wait for your next video
Mine is saying it's stuck open, engine isn't warming quick enough for the computer.
That's what was happening with mine. The thermostat sits on the front of the engine (right behind the radiator). Since we off road so much, the thermostat got alot of "gunk" on it and was stuck open. I have an entire video on UA-cam showing the replacement of this part. it is very simple and inexpensive.
@@RoadRashOffRoad I'm to take mine to the repair shop tomorrow, it shouldn't be too expensive. I drive 100 miles a day to and from work.
@@lonniehollifield133 Shouldn't be that much at all. it's a very inexpensive part and you don't have to disassemble anything on the motor to get to it. it sits right on the front, very accessible.
Awesome install, did your Jeep come with that short bumper or did you cut it and add those bumper and caps? I have the same bumper but it goes all the way out past the tires. Thx
Thank you for the compliment. I love the stubby bumper look and it's very functional off road too, keeping my tires from rubbing. I ended up cutting the bumper off on the ends with a hacksaw and installing end caps on the end of the bumper. a super easy easy project. I bought the end caps off of amazon and the directions were very clear.
@@RoadRashOffRoad Awesome thx
How did you put the motors in down position before installing
They were all in the down position already. In fact, I had to replace two motors and the two replacements that came were also in the down position when they arrived.
Yo RR, can I get the pin for the camp site you mentioned along the creek? I been looking on maps and onx but can’t seem to pin point it on my own. I think I’m close but not there.
Thank you.... I believe this is the location of that campsite in Coopers Creek. 34.77274, -84.06571
@@RoadRashOffRoad thank you, great content. Keep it up buddy
@@GregoryHyde-m3c Thank you Gregory.... Did you get to make it out to that Campsite in Coopers Creek?
Awesome video as always RoadRash.
Thank you Chris. I am hoping that this video can help someone having the same problem to have confidence to do it themselves and save hundreds of dollars. I hope no-one has to do it but if so, it's a super easy fix.
Co detector should probably be something you NEED if you run a little buddy even with ventilation accidents happen
Yes. Thank you. I’ve heard that many many times. Now I’m in a rooftop tent where ventilation is a bit more open, however I’ve recently ordered one. It’s been so warm this summer that I haven’t needed the Mr Buddy, however, I’ve got several trips coming up this fall and will be cranking that Mr. Buddy on high
I know that this is a year old but your video is the online installation video I saw that you drilled the hole in the pinch weld. My instructions didn’t say anything about doing that but I did because it does make sure not to have 2 bolts holding the motor.
Interesting… are you installing it on a JKU or a newer JL model? The directions i had clearly stated to make a new hole in the pinch weld on the back. I’ve never had an issue with these step sides since I put them on….. expect i ripped one of them off during a very intense rock crawling adventure. Easy to replace
@@RoadRashOffRoad on my jku but I did what you did and it worked out very well
@@marloncausey392 awesome. I’m happy my video was informative and helpful (that’s why I make them). It’s odd your directions didn’t tell you to do that.
Now, if that was a remote control car I would have said that the detail is out of this world
Ha ha ha. Definitely not a remote control. I had to watch it back and try to envision it as a remote. I can see how one would think that. 😂
I just wondering if I can just go one day in the GA Traverse and do une section and go back another day and do another section or it have to be done camping for a few days?
Yes... the Ga Traverse is made up of many different sections. you can go up and do individual sections. on my UA-cam channel, you'll see several individual sections I've done including Coopers Creek (one of my favorite), Big Frog Loop, Cohutta Wilderness, etc.
@RoadRashOffRoad thank you, I really appreciate that you took your time to answer... I will check those on your channel and get ready to explore them!!!
@@gutajo01 no problem my friend. I’m always up there in North GA. If you see us, come ride along. We have a trip coming up to Big Frog Loop

Great video man! Lots of fun!! See you next time
Thank you Michael!!! It was an awesome weekend. Catch you in the next ride.
Looks like a cool place to ride, after seeing it in all the previous videos I didn’t realize they had easier more stock friendly trails. Also that night ride looked awesome. Can’t wait till we get to do another one. That last one was a blast!
Would love to have you guys. This past year, I just went for the camping and community
@@RoadRashOffRoad I believe it was the same weekend as some tournaments or something this year. But I didn’t realize there was so much to do with out driving your jeep on the trails. We do our jeep day at the fair every fall in Griffin. I never drive the obstacle course because if I break something it’ll be a month before I have time to fix it 😂. So i just go, hang out, and film a video. Didn’t realize I could do the same thing at Morris Mountain
Awesome video as always brother. Thanks for the plug for Deep South 4x4. Much appreciated.
Always brother..... Deep South 4x4 🙌
Great video! It's great to see our '46 Heep in action. See you all again next year!
we love having you and your girls every year.... your Jeep is a beautiful work of art
Great video. We had been waiting for your next video. Keep up the good content and take care.
Thank you very much. Time caught up with me and I began becoming backed up at work. What should have taken me 5 days to edit ended up taking me 2 months .... :( I am so glad you enjoyed it. It was defiantly a fun one to work on. We have several adventures coming up the rest of this year... (and some exciting new partnerships and product reviews)
Great content KSwan! Keep it up.
Thank you very much. This was a fun one to film because I was not driving this time.... but rather jumping in and out of everyone else's jeep this weekend, just focused on content. I have several more trips coming up this year and some exciting new adventure videos.
New jeep owner and this video just woke me up. Had no clue.... Thanks
Thank you. Many new Jeep owners really don’t know about sway bar, sway bar disconnects or how this works (and why one would disconnect their sway bars). There are huge advantages to disconnecting them but if you don’t have the electronic ones on the Rubicon, many don’t know how to disconnect them manually.
10:25 FYI they have that style of tent now on amazon but with aluminum flat top. It comes with bars so you can mount extra stuff on top as well. Has a smaller profile as well.
I saw that.... the ability to mount extra stuff on top of the tent is quite interesting to me. Since I lost my roof rack, I lost the ability to store certain things that need to be outside of the cab of the jeep, like extra fuel. I use to store extra fuel on the roof rack but now, I have to either put it inside the jeep (which the smell sometimes can be bad) or opt not to bring extra fuel. I am doing an overlanding trip coming up in 2 weeks that will require me to have extra fuel.... it's a necessity.
Awesome!! Can’t wait
It's going to be a good one.... wish you were there. I loved seeing your Cohutta trip. I want to go on the next one.
@@RoadRashOffRoad I will let you know. Well for sure hit the Mountians around October, maybe Cohutta or Charlie’s Creek… not certain yet
@@1870offroad I have a list of rides I am doing throughout the rest of the year. I can send these to you and see if you want to jump on any of them.
@@RoadRashOffRoad for sure, I’ll see what I can lineup up with my plans
I thought they took Gut Bister off the BOH app?
They recently did. This video was shot about 2 months before they took it off. Gut Buster is not available on the BOH app any longer, probably because it's not passable
6 minutes in and why am I still seeing your face talking about the part. STFU and show the jeeps. F**k
Love this! I hate to see this history die because know one will ask about the history of this area.
I have a Hipcamp site a few miles down stream of Stoney if any of you Jeep guys ever want a private remote campsite after riding Stoney. Be glad to have some folks in the offroading community.
Oh man…. Thank you so much. We will absolutely take you up on that. We love Stoney and go back often. It’s one of the best parks in the Southeast
Do you need 4wd to do the whole trail?
Updated video on this tent? how many night do you have in it so far?
And if you didn’t have time to deal with it there’s ALWAYS BBOR in Bufford who’ll be happy to give you a hand with it!! 👍😁
You are right.... I love Black Bear Off Road. Brad and his team does AMAZING work. That's who I personally take the Road Rash Jeep to when something major happens
@@RoadRashOffRoad Even though I don’t care for one of his mechanics, Brad has always done me right with anything I’ve had him do for me. I’m certified myself, but at my age I’m getting a bit of arthritis and that makes it hard to do my own work, so just as you said, if I have to have someone work on my jeep or my wife’s jeep it’s Brad for sure!!!
Jeep? At least it started.
It’s always started… it’s never not started.
Camshaft sensor fault. Almost never a camshaft sensor
What do they say, “almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades?” I ran the code when my check engine light came on. P0369 - camshaft sensor. My jeep had complete loss of power above 50 miles an hour. I bought the camshaft sensor for $38, installed it in 30 minutes, cleared the codes and have never had another issue. No check engine light, no more codes, and no loss of power. I would say in this case, it was a camshaft sensor
I hope this a troll post.
A troll post? No sir. Check engine came on in the jeep. Ran a code, P0369 - Camshaft Sensor. Jeep shop wanted to charge me $$375 to fix it. I bought the sensor at Autozone for $38 and fixed it myself in 30 min
Good fix, had the same problem with my daughters Honda over the summer. Went through a couple aftermarket cam sensors. Eventually had to buy one from Honda. Been good ever since Can’t wait to see the Road Rash machine on the trails again
Yea... many people don't think they can attempt it but it's a super easy part to fix. I hope that my video gives them the confidence to dive under the hood and do it themselves and save hundreds of dollars
Well, you made that look easy. Love the Jscan app.
It was really easy. Probably the first time I’ve ever done any work on the jeep and did it run into some random problem
@@RoadRashOffRoad sometimes it goes like that. 😂
Music wayyyyyyyy too loud bud
Yes. I definitely think I picked the wrong song. It was kind of distracting. My wife said it was too loud also.
headed up next week might make a run at 600-1 up to power line have lunch and enjoy the view .
This time of year will be a bit hot but the view is going to be awesome
Wtf
Is this trail possible with a stock jeep? Just curious on your opinion.
yes... it absolutely is. I would probably wait until October or November when it's not blazing hot and less bugs but it is a great place to explore.
Good videos but i will say from on offroader to the other if ya listen’d to ur spotters alil more ud get up alot of tht way easier
thank you Malcom. and I completely agree with you. However I am sure you have ridden with large groups before as I have. Because of this, you also know there are spotters in the group that you trust more than anything and I will listen to them even if they drive me off a cliff... and then there are chefs in the kitchen who like to "try and spot" because they've seen someone else do it before. Some large group have too many chefs in the kitchen... I know which one to listen too because I trust him and he knows my driving style and capabilities.
The video you took is fantastic! Do you accept sponsor products?

Awesome video as always RoadRash.
Thank you Chris
Been looking at these only concern i have after seeing good omes fail is when the eye loop fails on the tent and those poles come down n smash out your windshield
Interesting… I’ve never thought of that. Having watched a lot of videos on RTT, specifically the Naturnest, I haven’t heard of any instances in which the eye loop fails and smashes the window. I guess I know what I’m doing for the next 2 hrs. I’m going to be searching eye loop fails on RTT and see what i come up with.
