  • Brigham Young University (BYU) boasts an illustrious history in football, marked by remarkable achievements, legendary players, and a tradition of excellence that has left a lasting impact on the college football landscape. Founded in 1922, BYU football has grown from a modest program into a powerhouse known for its high-octane offense, innovative coaching, and national prominence.
    Early Years and Rise to Prominence
    The program's rise to prominence began under the leadership of head coach LaVell Edwards, who took the helm in 1972. Edwards revolutionized college football with his pass-heavy offensive scheme, which transformed BYU into a scoring juggernaut. Under his guidance, the Cougars enjoyed unprecedented success, including 257 victories, 20 conference championships, and a national championship in 1984. That championship season, led by quarterback Robbie Bosco, remains a highlight in the program's history, as BYU finished undefeated and was crowned the nation's top team.
    Legendary Quarterbacks
    BYU has produced a lineage of legendary quarterbacks who have made significant contributions to both college and professional football. This includes Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, who set numerous NCAA records during his time at BYU, and NFL greats like Steve Young and Jim McMahon. The quarterback tradition continues to be a hallmark of the program, attracting top talent and maintaining BYU's reputation as a breeding ground for elite signal-callers.
    National Impact and Independence
    In 2011, BYU football embraced independence, a bold move that allowed the program to broaden its national schedule and reach. This transition has enabled BYU to showcase its talents on a larger stage, securing high-profile matchups against some of the nation's top teams. The Cougars have consistently risen to the challenge, earning respect and recognition for their competitive spirit and resilience.
    Modern Success and Community Support
    BYU's modern success is also fueled by its passionate fan base, known as Cougar Nation. The support from this dedicated community creates a formidable home-field advantage at LaVell Edwards Stadium, where the energy and enthusiasm are palpable. The program's commitment to excellence extends beyond the field, emphasizing academic achievement, character development, and service, reflecting the values of the university.
    Conclusion
    In conclusion, BYU's illustrious history in football is characterized by groundbreaking coaching, legendary players, and a tradition of success that continues to shape the college football landscape. From its early years to its current status as an independent powerhouse, BYU football remains a beacon of excellence and a source of pride for its community.

    As a BYU fan I don't think that bowl eligibility is out of the realm I expect that as a BYU fan! But they were not as good as that start. They stumbled into that record on a few wins against teams they should always beat! The cougars where hanging by a thread going into BIG12 play where they were exposed not only in talent but are OC "A-RODS" inability to call plays and scheme around his offensive talents! I'm not nearly as worried about BYUS talent this year as I am about the offensive coaching calling plays and schemes around there talent!!! Where were our tight ends last year, where was LJ MARTIN after the tech game??? Just saying BYU is definitely talented enough to win we just have to scheme around that talent to do so!!!

    I have BYU going 5-7 or 6-6 or 4-8 at worst or 7-5 at best. I have no clue where 8-4 is coming from? I hope they beat SMU but SMU will need that game more than BYU because the next 3 games on SMU schedule are all losses. SMU in the ACC will go anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3 in year one.

    I have em 4-8 with sitake squarely on the hot seat. Dont know when his contract expires though. Too many questions at key positions combined with the easiest teams on the road and vice versa with the toughest teams at home equals the potential for a regression season.
    SMU is better than drake says, didnt they finish the regular season in the AP top 25? Sure they lost their bowl game to BC, but Utah also lost to NW. Losses in bowls mean little these days with half of starting rosters opting out nowadays. Wyoming at Laramie also shouldn't be considered an auto win, just ask Texas Tech.

      Update: Sitakes contract runs through the 2027 season. I think it'd have to take the worst case scenario Jake mentioned (2-10 or so) for BYU to fire him 3 years early

      I happen to agree with you. Unless BYU goes 2-10 or 3-9 and looks leaderless and listless even at 4-8 to 7-5 and wins look more like luck for BYU and miscues by the opponent, Sitake should keep his head coach job. I agree that at Wyoming and at SMU will probably be losses. So I have BYU going 1-2 in non conference games. In conference play I have them anywhere from 3-6 to 5-4 so 4-8 to 6-6 or maybe 7-5 is the most likely outcome. The key is to look competitive and competent in all games be they wins or losses. Meaning BYU can’t have any losses with BYU having 16 points and the opponent has 56 points and make matters worse the opponent doesn’t have a winning record either. And certainly can’t have three or four losses like that without winning 7 games to kind of save your hide as head coach.

      @@michaelwall3393 yeah I'd agree with your assessment about wins and Sitakes contract. Staying around the 4-5 wins per season for the next 4 seasons will at least keep him his job for those 4 seasons, but if that's all he's able to accomplish, they definitely won't renew his contract. He'd have to get bowl eligible probably at least twice for them to renew the contract.
      I also agree with your schedule predictions. 1-2 non conference seems the most likely outcome to me. If SMU and Wyoming were going to Provo, I'd be more inclined to grant them as wins, but they're not. As for the conference schedule, after looking at it again, I could see 2-7 depending on how good Baylor is since that's also a road game. If Baylor is crap again and worse than BYU, then I'd put em at 3-6. Guess we'll just see. Either way, can't wait for the games to start!

    Drake??? Does 6-6 which Jake and others have projected as the final Record for BYU minus a Bowl appearance show 'competitiveness' in the B12 if they win the first 3 games? Just curious.... Also.... Who was the QB who won the BIG 12 Championship as well as the Sugar Bowl in 2021 when BYU went down to Baylor and got whipped with what people are saying now was the perfect QB (Jaren Hall) for BYU's OC Aaron Rodderick? People like Jake say that Jaren Hall is the style of QB that Aaron Rodderick needs to win. Okay.... if that logic is true? Gerry Bohanon is a pound for pound better QB than Hall head to head it would seem and they both have the same style of being a run threat as well. Why are all the BYU pundits pushing for a QB other than Bohanon with BYU literally being projected to dwell in the bottom of the BIG 12 barrel?

    • @KingPin1000101
      @KingPin1000101 13 днів тому +1

      Gerry Bohanon is 3 years removed from his 2021 self. Spent last year injured at USF, didn't know if he would play football again. Not the same Gerry. We can all HOPE for better, but that is the reality in 2024. Also 2021 Gerry did not get drafted. It was BYU's run defense that lost that Baylor game, not Jaren Hall.

    • @mikemccabe8015
      @mikemccabe8015 11 днів тому

      His contract runs through the 2027 season. I don't think 4-8 would honestly be enough for them to fire him this year. I think it'd have to be more like 2-10 or maybe 3-9 with obvious signs of lack of improvement or leadership for the 2025 season for them to fire him.
