Nothing to say you cannot vocalize sounds into your flute, but that is not the intention of these "spoken rhythms". The idea, at least as we do them in workshops, is to vocalize the rhythms until they get entrained into your mind - till you can just think them. And then, use that rhythm and overlay a set of notes on your flute. They could be any notes - it is sometimes easier to do just random notes over a rhythm, or you could use a specific melody … Hope this helps!
