That’s a beautiful piece dude, imagine going on your roof deck at night time just wailing on it so people walking their dog don’t know where it’s coming from, hearing that soothing sound in the distance.
Hey, I have a High Spirits A minor. I have had it for about 18 years. It is about an octave higher than your flute. It is all of 11" long. Yes, your new flute is a beautiful instrument. And I am not clear on the length of time that you have been playing your flutes, but, and this is coming from someone who has been playing flute for just over 20 years, I think that you listen well to the spirit of your flute, because what you demonstrated was nearly flawless. Be sure to watch Odell's videos, as he is a very good teacher. And DO follow his playing hints, and PLAY with your flute, NEVER practice! Never alow your flute playing become a drudgery! ENJOY. I am going to be watching you, It should be a great ride! I have no flute videos on you tube yet, but one day maybe. The only suggestion I would have for you is to listen o your flute as you play it. It should tell you a lot about how to play it. And now a disclaimer. I am not Native American, but 1/2 Norwegian, and a real mix on the other side. I can not imagine NOT playing a flute, and expect to be playing them till I draw my last breath. In 2015 I played my flutes throughout the treatment for stage 4a throat cancer. And beat that, much to the surprise to my doctors, now I am fighting a new battle, as back ij January, I was diagnosed to have Lung Cancer. I am fighting this just as hard as I fought the throat cancer. My doctors say I have up to 4 or 5 more years, but as I did with the last cancer, I am planning to live to 107 or so!. If for nothing else just to see the look on their faces. Be well, and stay safe.
Early 2023, I was just playing my 22 year old high spirits flute and decided to look it up on youtube. Odell has been making these for a long time and they are all quality items.
The High Spirts Am Flute in Walnut was also my first flute. It is a beautiful instrument, and I find high Spirts to be a company of great integrity and craftsmanship, not to mention that they provide tons of free resources online for beginners to learn to play. Enjoy your flute!
Through the years have five of High Spirit flutes. I am fortunate to live In Tucson Arizona close to where they are made. Have met the owner and all there are so nice and know what they are doing. They have greatly improved my life.
I have four beautiful High Spirits Flutes, I love them! The first one I bought, was over 20 years ago, and the most recent one, I got earlier this year. As he said, they are well made and beautiful to look at, as well as have a wonderful sound. There is something very special and unique about the Native American flute, and they are not difficult to play, once you master the basic technique. And because they are tuned to the pentatonic scale, you can't hit a wrong note!
I am always happy to see someone find a new way to express themselves. I have a HS Red Tail hawk in G and before that I just had a cheep flute that worked, but the quality of the HS helped me hit new levels of personal satisfaction. They are such a easy and simple way to express your self. I hope that one day you find that point how you too can spread that love by playing for others you care for. I play for my self, so it is deeply personal when I choose to play for others. Not always easy, but I have never regretted it.
Your flute playing sounds great and I love the muted trumpet background soundtrack that you were using behind your commentary. I have one of their flutes and your review is spot on.
From the initial looks of this video in my UA-cam lineup, I got the impression that this might be one of those "watch out!" videos - but actually, it was anything but. I'm sooo glad you're happy with your High Spirits flute!
Thought the same thing with the wtf displayed lol was gonna say these flutes are all awesome. I have 4 of em and just now bought my 5th one which is the Virgo astrological spirit flute.
Hey Wulf, thank you for sharing. Not bad at all for a beginner! I have been called by the flute for the longest time and will purchase one soon. This helped and your piece is beautiful!
Well done vid. Yes, these are excellent quality instruments, well made and great sounding. Wonderful company to do business with. They obviously love what they're doing. Enjoy expressing yourself through that beautiful walnut flute.
My High Spirits flute is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It sounds like the spirit guided me well to purchase this flute from HS. Your playing sounded phenomenal and I van only pray I will have similar communion with mine. Take care and look forward to this new expression of your spirit.
Thanks for sharing! I just ordered my first 2 flutes from High Spirits Flutes. I ordered the First Hawk A in Spanish Cedar and Pocket Flute G in Aromatic Cedar. I can’t wait to get them and to play them!
Hey nice job on playing your flute. I have an F sharp that I have been playing for about a year and I am going to get a D minor from High Spirts based on your review. I always play in private myself but last week in Colorado I played for 4 friends first time ever playing for anyone none of them even knew I played. Enjoy playing.
@@Eric-lh6wp I like the D minor but I still play the F sharp. I like the more throaty sound of the D. Just listen to different flutes and find one that speaks to YOU. Have fun and Merry Christmas.
Thanks for all of your input and info!! I'm a disabled guy, that can't carry a tune in a bucket... But, the wood flute has always touched me deeply hearing it... I'm hoping I can learn to play.. you've helped me decide on, High Spirts.. just have to decide what note.. lol.. thanks
WOW! Great video! I've already purchased one from High Spirits in G minor, but this video made me even more excited for it to come in! I've NEVER played the flute before and was impressed what you did in a few days!!!! Also, I'm fairly certain I'll be buying a Bass Flute from High Spirits in B minor once I save up enough coin!
This is the one I want to get. Some I have seen have a different fetish but I like this one the best. Nice bag. Sounds fantastic.... I bet you are going to be a great flute player
@@poppa_justify Don't play mine as much as I'd like but have recently gotten back to doing so a bit more. I used to play in a local park at sunrise and it made my day so much more peaceful.
I have 10 High Spirits Flutes. Including a Drone F# and a drone A . It is really easy to play. Dang ! You play really well ! I have 15 other flutes as well by a couple of other makers . But I love my High Spirits the best . Just remember , playing them outside in humid weather the water up real easy and fast .
I bought my first High Spirits flute several years ago and now own six of them -- different keys and different woods. Sure, I have my favorites, but all are fine instruments and good values. If cost is a consideration, subscribe to their newsletter and hear about special deals. Lots of free instruction videos on their website.
I’m so glad you discovered the Native American flute! I have 2 of Odell’s flutes and they are of high quality, and his company is very supportive. Continue playing, and don’t worry. The flute is very forgiving. Explore youtube and you will get a lot of inspiration to play! Aloha from Honolulu
Your flute-playing sounds so good! I have a High Spirits flute, used to play silver flute in high school. You sound far better than I do - and you have just started. Keep it up!
Very nice review. High Spirit Flutes are beautiful flutes. I would like to gift you a Northern Spirit Flute if you are interested in adding another Mid A flute to your collection.
I too have a high spirits flute. May I suggest to you another flute maker. Not quite as "large" an outfit, but beauty and quality abound. For me, once I had one I needed ten. JD Flutes. ✌️
And too, I bought custom made flute bags for each flute. When I find it, the business card of the maker, I'll share that with you. Incredible work at an unbelievable price. Nazbok on eBay.
I am so bummed :( I ordered and received my first flue from them recently. It came in the mail yesterday. It's the 24 inch Earthtone in Key of F# and it wets out within minutes. I remove the fetish and blow out so much moisture every couple of minutes. Im seriously considering sending it back and getting a Spirit flute without that slow air chamber so I can keep playing and not be disappointed after a few minutes. Any tips?
Nice fellow, nice review - only needs to learn "knife skills" so that he won't cut his fingers and so the victim (carrot in this case) is more easily and better chopped. Seriously though, I've two NAFs and am interested in a High Spirits Sparrow Hawk in A minor - just need to figure out whether I want the aromatic eastern cedar (yummy) or the walnut. SO - thanks for the vid (and check out knife skills tutorials).
Does it have no hole near the mouth peice with a labium? Like recorders do? I'm researching on how to make a flute with clay and I thought for it to vertical with a mouth piece like his above it must have a hole right below the mouth peice with a 15 degree angled labium. Is it not necessary? I am very confused, and just want to make a vertical flute with some clay I found in the woods.
"High spirits, Dude. Key of G minor. 432hz. See it on the insignia. Rainbow Moonstone- with the exact ripple that 432 makes on water, or sand."
You, too? 😂😂
