Oh, wow! This is gorgeous. I'm so excited that I came across this flutecast. I have a Dm NAF and loved playing along with you. Thanks for all you do for the flute community!
Love this scale, thanks so much for sharing. On an historical note, Sefardi people are Jewish, originally from Spain and nowadays living in Greece and Turkey, but not necessarily gypsies. Actually probably not gypsies at all.
Thank you so much for posting your flutecasts, Clint, you do a great service to the fluting community by doing so. I owe a lot of my growth to your videos, the more I learn the more fun I have - and I'm having a lot of fun with this scale. Thanks again putting up the road signs on this path we are all traveling!
I love all of your videos. is it possible for you to have a pod cast where you talk about the flute, your life viewing the world through music how music manages pain
Like wise; i so appreciate your site; i teach flute as healing tool in grief; get them started and do one follow up review; a few want more and i suggest they check yu out.
Cool variation. I'll have to weave this into the scale I usually play. I usually play note 6 and 7 by uncovering the 6th hole then the 5th hole while staying in Mode 4.
Yes, there are many options in fingering, depending on the flute. Staying in Mode 4 works on some flutes if it is enough in-tune ... and it is certainly faster! ... For this FluteCast - which is a bit more advanced - I chose to switch to Mode 1, which is more in-tune on most flutes, but a bit more challenging to finger. Thanks!
Wonderful video thank you so much. Quick question? Would it be possible for me to be able to play this on my Arabian flute it's in the key of A? thank you in advance.
When I play the minor ninth it sounds really off... I’m basically a beginner. I can improvise pretty decently in the native scale but can’t get that ninth note... Any tips?
I would like to try an improv in GarageBand in this scale. What time signature do you recommend? It seems that everything from 2/4 to 6/8 is possible. Is there a time signature that would make this cultural syncopation easier to play?
Hi Sherry - You could check out the Odd Rhythms flutecast, which look into meters like 5/4 and 10/8. But really the technique I like to use in the one in this video at 3:58. That uses a basic 4/4 meter, but I am using syncopation to get the feel. Hope that helps!
Super helpful! Love your videos!
Thank you so very much clip t!! So very very great!!
Short and clear. Thanks!👌

Thanks *SO MUCH* for your kind words ...
I found this vid as a friend asked me about a Gypsy scale. I just tried this on my E bass. Amazing. Thanks Clint!
Thanks again Clint - so much easier with your clear demos - especially the syncopation practice!
Thanks, Clint! You have, once again expanded by horizons on the NA flute.
Thanks Randy ... Horizons R Us!

Do you guys have any retreats coming up?
Check out clintgoss.com/calendar.html for our schedule ...
Really beautiful. What is the key of the flute that you were playing. Tried it in F# but sounds much more exotic on the lower key. Thanks
Thanks! That's a low D minor ...
Great tutorial, Clint! It's like having a new flute! Thanks! BTW, who made that flute? It sounds beautiful!
That's a D minor by Randy Stenzel.
... and thank you for your kind words ... Flute On!
Do have the sephardic rythm under odd rythms?

The minor ninth is typically, but not always, gotten with the fingering
Sounds really good!! thank you! do you why its called "spanish"?

Beautiful!! May I ask, is your flute in traditional tuning or 432?
To me it feels like there's a tone missing between the first and second tone.
Good call! Yes there is a tone missing: the minor second cannot (reliably) be played on Native American flutes, so I move it up to the minor ninth.
