I'm aware of that, we do it too. They say something with more than one syllable though. Right before the snare to bass call and response. Same right before a bass split.
also, it does sound dirty, but there is another vid on youtube of this exact run from a different angle, and it sounds niiiiiice so i dont know its probably the video quality, or the position of the camera.
i play a kit and have been having trouble tuning my toms, so i read up on it. the diameter of the drum gives you the pitch, and the depth gives you tone and resonance. So i'll bet they're just tuned really high.
Thank you. Thats what I was saying. And they might not be practicing like I said in an earlier comment, they could be rehearsing their show music because this is their show "Frameworks". It was very good might I add.
i dont even remember, but you dont want your duts to be too loud, i had a comment on a judges tape about my duts being too loud, and when theres someone in each section dutting theres no need to be uber loud
It's not really hard to get a clean playing group, it's about your approach. Dirty sounds are usually from someone not having the chops to keep up or they got a fraction of a beat offtempo, these kind of things happen.
first of all its not a cadence its their show music. secondly you seriously shouldnt doubt me. when i get quints i will post the video just to shut u up. all my school has is quads. someone at dline camp tought me the lick. the beginning is all on drums 1 and 2 and spock. and its not talking big im just telling you how it is
Pray tell, how do "girls" play? You mean, like Evelyn Glennie, or like Sheila E, or maybe Teri Lynn Carrington? Or like the current center snare at Santa Clara Vanguard? Please clarify, so we can admire your expertise properly.
Cavs rule even though I'm more of a Cadets fan when it comes to their drumline. Cavs have some of my favorite drill. I wish I was good enough to even get into DCI let alone Div. I. Bayarearapsuxballs, dude leave people alone. You're outnumbered and won't let your ignorant point be heard. High school and college bands are decent but I'd love to see them try these peices.
wrong. actually at 3:48, hes not the only one to do it. the far right snare that can be seen also does it. so it was probably just a visual between half of the line.
Bayarearapsuxballs: Dude 1. You don't play any percussion intrument and niether do I so niether of us have the right to critize. 2. They are DCI CORPS, not bands. 3. They are practicing and recording, so they can't move or the sound will be way screwed up and they already memorized their drill. 4. The metronome is very important, it keeps the beat up because people tend to drag the music.
the idea is that if you have nine guys with low taps and moderately high accents you won't need to overdo dynamics. they will just happen naturally. it's also easier to get it clean when you're not overdoing accents.
Actually, believe it or not, they received 3rd in drums, most likely because of their very good front ensemble. It was from 1st to 5th 1) Cadets 2) Santa Clara Vanguard 3) Cavaliers 4) Glassmen (cleanest battery of that summer by far!) 5) Blue Devils
and the bass line doesn't just stand there like "something is up there ass and play the same tempo over and over". If you care to find some videos of the Cadets bass line from 2006 and 2007 you'll see. Look up "Holy Bass". I bet you'll change your tune a little bit.
my guess is you are a fan of "traditional" bands instead of "corps" style bands. Ok, so real music to you is someone with a bass drum that's tuned to no specific tone banging away and doing whatever dance he/she deems necessary to go along with it. Watch the actual show from this rehearsal/warm-up. I think you'll find that it is PERFECTLY balanced with the rest of the corps.
... wow i'd bet my paycheck to you those "small college" drummers are auditioning and wishing upon a star to join the ranks of The Cavaliers / Blue Devils... and show me a division one corps that stands in "one place" for longer than 15seconds (excluding the finale) and we make it two paychecks
not true, 1992, they won with percussion, 1995, they were .1 away from a perfect percussion score, 1999 through '02 was pretty damn good, place 1st in 99 and 00, second 01, and third 02, but then erik johnson left so u have percussion from '06 and '07, but hes coming back so its ok
wow. you should be a judge. Duts are, after all, THE most important aspect of playing in a drumline. Please, tell me you aren't going to be an educator...please.
@TheMoonlightDelight what counts is what happens on the field, maybe they had a kick-ass run later that night? I've been on lines where we would do terrible in the lot and then nail it on the field, and vice versa, you never know. either way, with a 99.150, they must have done something right.
are you kidding me, this was the highest scoring show in DCI history. so they obviously
in 2002 the Cavis set the record for the highest finals score at 99.15...the Cadets tied it in 2005.
hey the snare solo at 41 is off of Frameworks...
This is the cavs Cleaner years if u ask me...only other that really sticks out to me was 95'
I'm aware of that, we do it too. They say something with more than one syllable though. Right before the snare to bass call and response. Same right before a bass split.
no i was referring to Splooie as the Cavaliers Call. the Lars father mother, i have not a clue. i just think it was a vocal for the heck of it
My favorite shows have been 2002 and 2006! The 02' show about made my cry it was soooo fricken sweet.
y'a un super timing , franchement bravo , je savais pas que c'était possible et aussi longtemp
bravo
it was an original work, i think it was written partly with bret kuhn and mike mcintosh...the mvt. name was rhythm.
also, it does sound dirty, but there is another vid on youtube of this exact run from a different angle, and it sounds niiiiiice so i dont know its probably the video quality, or the position of the camera.
how could this not be stuck in your head
No, near the end when they switch to mached grip. The tenors say something and so do the snares.
i play a kit and have been having trouble tuning my toms, so i read up on it. the diameter of the drum gives you the pitch, and the depth gives you tone and resonance. So i'll bet they're just tuned really high.
Although, regarding the split roll: The rule always was "if it ain't clean by finals night, it's out"
that is true. good observation
Does anybody know the name of this song? i need the sheet music to it. if you do PLEASE respond.
Yeah, bass line!
o ok cuz ive seen them play this before except it wuz at nightime and it wuznt the whole thing it wuz in the semi-finals
Thank you. Thats what I was saying. And they might not be practicing like I said in an earlier comment, they could be rehearsing their show music because this is their show "Frameworks". It was very good might I add.
yeah and what line do you march...
still one of my favorite drumbreaks
whats 1 and 4 and 34 are they counting the rythem?
yes is does..
Which the Cadets got in 2005 as well.
What do they say at 3:38 ? it sounds like 'Lars- father daughter' but i'm probably way off....
this is the year they took first....great performance...
how hard can it be to click your sticks together and play eighth notes?
cause if notice the dirt in this video andeven in the finals video you can hear the dirt in the snare video.
Cadets won drums in 02
I wish I knew what I did with the video I shot, I was shooting from behind the drumline, from about 3:30 to the end.
2:11-2:22 is the cavaliers' routine "fight club" frameworks. look it up, and ull see it.
i dont even remember, but you dont want your duts to be too loud, i had a comment on a judges tape about my duts being too loud, and when theres someone in each section dutting theres no need to be uber loud
did they win percussion in 02??
Hey does anyone have the snare and quints music for any of their shows
i think its the design of the yamaha drums, the shells are really shallow it seems to me, more so then pearl or dynasty drums
It's not really hard to get a clean playing group, it's about your approach. Dirty sounds are usually from someone not having the chops to keep up or they got a fraction of a beat offtempo, these kind of things happen.
Legendary snare feature. One of the 1st things to inspire me to get into DCI 🔥
i said the same thing... 2002 was their year. didnt the get the highest score in dci history that year?
first of all its not a cadence its their show music. secondly you seriously shouldnt doubt me. when i get quints i will post the video just to shut u up. all my school has is quads. someone at dline camp tought me the lick. the beginning is all on drums 1 and 2 and spock. and its not talking big im just telling you how it is
are they using yamahas or dynastys?I can't tell
Pray tell, how do "girls" play? You mean, like Evelyn Glennie, or like Sheila E, or maybe Teri Lynn Carrington?
Or like the current center snare at Santa Clara Vanguard?
Please clarify, so we can admire your expertise properly.
i love how when their not playing but they're marking time, you can hear their drums squeaking on the harness.
I was sitting in front of them in the Parkinglot at Semis... You know those days when you doubt your eyes and ears??? That was one! :)
idk if its the video quality but this seems pretty dirty for finals
The lot doesn't matter...
Cavs rule even though I'm more of a Cadets fan when it comes to their drumline. Cavs have some of my favorite drill. I wish I was good enough to even get into DCI let alone Div. I. yeah i agree but in the other video snares took it. and at finals i think one of the quad players had stage fright
The first tenor is my marching band director!!!
Did they not count dirt against you in 2002 or something?
you play it then... i dont like people who are only give bad comments if they can play it...
Bayarearapsuxballs: Dude 1. You don't play any percussion intrument and niether do I so niether of us have the right to critize. 2. They are DCI CORPS, not bands. 3. My drum instructor is Max Mullinix the third snare in from the left.
Is he the guy that broke right aftet 3:45?
the idea is that if you have nine guys with low taps and moderately high accents you won't need to overdo dynamics. they will just happen naturally. it's also easier to get it clean when you're not overdoing accents.
I think they actually split the roll instead of it being one-handed.
2.44??
theyre saying...
lars . father mother (matched stick)
that what youre talking about?
is that joe hobbs? is this his first year?
cause im pretty sure he aged out this year
oh cool. i think xpads by promark and real feel pads are much better. alot better bounce. does your slim pad have good bounce
If they had know, that they run the best show of all the times.....Amazing
this was a great show i always wanted to hear just the drumline cool
Actually, believe it or not, they received 3rd in drums, most likely because of their very good front ensemble. It was from 1st to 5th
1) Cadets
2) Santa Clara Vanguard
3) Cavaliers
4) Glassmen (cleanest battery of that summer by far!)
5) Blue Devils
This is when the cavaliers were "The Cavaliers"

What are they saying?
No, I've watched the other video too, they are fuzzy in too many spots, and just plain dirty in a couple others.
Are you sure it's Lars, Father - Daughter??? How do you know?
yes i know this....i just happened to like this performance the best :)
its challenging but i can play it. i will post a video when my pad comes in. i ordered a hex pad by promark.
lars what? what are you people talking about?
it's called frameworks
its the cavaliers call. only two year members know its true meaning
Of course everything sounds better from the front.
lol, caviesPWN, you got the count wrong. agree with you tho - cavies pwn at life!
pads really shouldn't have too much bounce if you wanna work your chops
my guess is you are a fan of "traditional" bands instead of "corps" style bands. Ok, so real music to you is someone with a bass drum that's tuned to no specific tone banging away and doing whatever dance he/she deems necessary to go along with it. is that phantom marching out in the background?
they all did some short stick flip, looks like he either almost didnt catch, or maybe just lost count and took a second to fall back in line. etc.
Frameworks was a phenomenal show. IMO, so much better than Cadet's "The Zone".
actually cadets won perc in 2001. or was it bd? im like 99% sure it was cadets.
i loved this show, i just dont think the cavaliers are as clean on the field as they are standing here. I have this show and the 2004 show.
It's a sweet break, but as far as badassness, The samurai break gave this a run for its money :P
Only because the visuals were sick
mm loved the echo at 2:29
... wow i'd bet my paycheck to you those "small college" drummers are auditioning and wishing upon a star to join the ranks of The Cavaliers / Blue Devils... and show me a division one corps that stands in "one place" for longer than 15seconds (excluding the finale) and we make it two paychecks

its original composition
wow. you should be a judge. Duts are, after all, THE most important aspect of playing in a drumline. Please, tell me you aren't going to be an educator...please.
Love the flam stuff around 3:10.
it's part of the show from that year.... the entire corps does it.. just watch the whole show and you'll get it haha
Lars, father mother.
I have no idea what it means lol.
@TheMoonlightDelight what counts is what happens on the field, maybe they had a kick-ass run later that night? I've been on lines where we would do terrible in the lot and then nail it on the field, and vice versa, you never know. either way, with a 99.150, they must have done something right.
"Lars"... "Father - Mother"
wow this is REALLY dirty as far as championships corps go...
yeah my bad i hit the wong key... i know this is 02 lol and yeah cadets won perc in 02
the tenors are cleaner than the snares.
"One" lol. They came in 3rd in percussion, and they were dirty.
3:45 - A snare breaks finals night, last run. Boom.
@BCDL08 yeah man i saw that too.. it almost looked like he broke for a little bit to me? but i've been wrong before
lars, father, mother.
Wow, theres a lot of dirt in there... thats why they didnt win drums that year. The only category they lost.
Jesus, they make it look so easy!
2:47 is the first time i heard the bass line lol
