The 2002 Cavaliers drumline prepare for their show. Update (9/7/10): Figured out how to add annotations (hell yeah!). You'll see them where they are most appropriate.
So clean. Anytime someone talks crap about DCI, I tell them to try to get 10 people to do ANYTHING in unison as precisely as a snare line. Much less something so intricate and difficult. Nicely done, gentlemen.
I love watching cavaliers battery videos and hearing the rest of the corp in my head because the amount of times I've seen the show is mind boggling. I love the fact that the cavaliers battery has always walked the fine line between "flashy and tasty" for so long. I played tenors in high school matching band for three years and i remember a distinct conversation with our drum instructor the year after we had our best show, complaining to him that the music was too easy/not challenging enough after the previous year and him telling me something to the effect of "we can piss or masturbate all over the field with fancy stuff. But thats never a good idea. U gotta be tasty with it". That idea is still stuck with me more than a decade later. And the cavaliers battery has always done a masterful job of striking this balance. Especially in this show.
my god. A snare line that big. and it's clean. then again, it's the cavaliers. :) but still! It sounds like one loud snare drum! and the basses. mindblowing. :) The tenors. God.. wow. :)

Pretty late to this but as a person in the marching activity rn, I’d like to know which one of us has implied that, as I would have no clue. “Dirt” is definitely not acceptable as far as I know 🙂
yea i hear that alot for many other lines like blue devils man i hear of ppl coming all the way rrom the East coast over here to the west coast to work with them
I'd have to agree with everything Insdrummer said. If you want emotion as well, watch the front ensemble. From my experience, or atleast how I was taught, was to play with emotion. To let all the musical expression out while playing.
My dad was a Cavie and he talks about Cav things all the time. "Splooie" for instance...when I ask what it means, he tells me, "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you". They are a very secretive group of men. lol
So clean.

Virgil Richardson 👌
Lots of lines ram notes. This drill.
Ok. The cavaliers in the early 2000s was a group to be reckoned with. They were amazing. Now as far as this drum line being clean ......no
My dad played in the cavalier’s drum line, and now, I’m a drummer like him, Go cavaliers!
18 years later still one of the best
I love how it could be only one snare, one tenor, and one bass...and someone just hit copy and paste =D that's how clean they are.
I LOVE CAVIES!
Crazy how much better video has gotten in the past 15 years. This looks like something out of the 19th Century.
I like to see 10 snare drummers march again in the future
Boston 2019
The lost art of the sticks in.
Has it already been this long?!
Yeah man I hope they don’t do anything crazy like change the uniform or get rid of the bent leg. That would be wild.
That last sticks in is so tasty even two decades later.
The Cavalier drum lines 1988-2005 are the gold standard.
to be in the cavaliers drumline is to be the best of the best!

That groove at 1:06 is unreal.

These guys are outstanding, but as an ex Kiltie drummer, the Cavaliers from 1968 were,in my opinion, the best EVER!
hi i'm from germany and our best drum & bugle corps are the starriders but these guys are much better this is very awesome great druming
Still cleanest warm up I have ever heard!
I can't believe cadets took drums this year! BS! Cavies are clean as fuck!!! Thx for posting!
Amazing! So stunning beautiful to listen to!
Unbelievably clean for a snare line with 10 players on it. I forget how much this show made use of Moeller strokes.
I'm playing this in my school's winter concert
I love when it only looks like one snare, one tenor, and one bass, and someone just copied and pasted that one for the rest of the section =D
Boy, would I kill to get my hands on the sheets for that snare break in the beginning!
that splitt-roll @ 1:15 is awesome
that is the cleanest line i've ever seen. jesus
one of my band directors was on the snareline
The best college drumline is probably better than some of the lower Corps but, the top Corps are the pinnacle of this type of drumming.
I love their bass tuning!
my god. A snare line that big. and it's clean.
then again, it's the cavaliers. :)
but still! It sounds like one loud snare drum!
and the basses. mindblowing. :) The tenors. God..
wow. :)
oh my god this is pissss cleannnn
SO PERFECT. OH MY GOD.

man soooooooo clean
1:14 always gives me chills
That split triplet roll is the craziest thing ever
and it was sick!
Hey, I think I see my drumline instructor squatting in front of tenors. Shout out to Mr Brennan!
Perfection
nice triplet roll at the end there.
before dirt was "acceptable"
Pretty late to this but as a person in the marching activity rn, I’d like to know which one of us has implied that, as I would have no clue. “Dirt” is definitely not acceptable as far as I know 🙂
The flubbed attack in the tenor feature on finals night would like a word
You sure? This line is hella clean but that split triplet roll was very "ehhh" even until finals night.
Is this a mr.clean commercial?
This is better than the actual finals performance.
damn, amazing stick heights
Nice hights and sound
Damm these boy's are nice as hell
3:27 bass splits holy shit!
Chicks dig clean beats.
thats the REAL cavies
Tut tut tut! Awesome
Are there any vids on YT that feature the original Cavie Walk beat? The 6/8 one they used to march off the field with back in the 80's?
yea i hear that alot for many other lines like blue devils man i hear of ppl coming all the way rrom the East coast over here to the west coast to work with them
Fucking insane. Those snares. God damn.
Soooo clean and tasty. If they were this clean in Finals performance, they would have won by even MOAR.
That's the people on the line doing "dups." Dups are used to count out rests in cadences and music.
I'd have to agree with everything Insdrummer said. If you want emotion as well, watch the front ensemble. From my experience, or atleast how I was taught, was to play with emotion. To let all the musical expression out while playing.
My drum teacher was on the quad line :D
this is the drum feature and the closer
0:10 so cool!
That literally sounds like like one quad and one snare everytime they play
@emuman4evr
Erm, fight club's vocal. If you watch the entire show, you can hear the vocals. :D
The dude in the background really loves fivelet rolls
oh ok thanks i always get confused with them. Still pretty sick!
magic :D
yeah, the only one i know doesn't is phantom
the 3rd snare for the left looks funny its the hair haha
My mistake. I realized that.
@danielfaucher Its part of their 2002 show
one word...space
My dad was a Cavie and he talks about Cav things all the time. "Splooie" for instance...when I ask what it means, he tells me, "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you". They are a very secretive group of men. lol
@indiman5000 No, this is the full tempo of the show... they do sound weird though...
yes it would be. either that or it's already broken =P
@azahnd82 *facepalm* yeah I think all the girls in the Cavies will appreciate the compliment...
from 1:48 to 2:00
it sounds like the snares are coming in a 32nd note early on the tight buzzes
@PeanutButterGorilla Forgive me for asking (brass player), but what is a split roll?
fight club sounds great in this
@ANGELSandBlink44 it was a split roll
at 3:29 they say something else, sounds kind of like "sticky", at 3:38ish they say "lars, father mother."
oh frameworks. how you get my excited.
@PeanutButterGorilla wasnt a split roll it was split singles
@timartin91 what are we talking about this video or blue devils 2003?......
that's corps.
corp it the abbreviation for corporation
My favorite part is when the basses play at 2:40 :D
WHAT ...o my
@PeanutButterGorilla If you listen closely your statement is wong someone rips the last diddle of the split :) have a nice day
anyone know where can i get the music sheet for this?
I've read it's supposed to be a Metallica reference to Lars Ulrich.
Does anyone have snare music for the drum feature? I'm dying to learn that lick at 0:28
anyone know where to get the closer music?
@flipboitj hey now just because the madison scouts dont have girls play doesnt mean anything i was in the madison scouts for a year and my dad for ten
@PeterHarker100 I know...it was a joke.
which one is huei?!
i think he's the second from the right
Score?
Those shots sound like guns
Do they have to cluck?
Clean as fuck! Did they win drums this year?
ok i know what they say at 3:35 its lars father mother. weird i know
what caption award didn't they win?
who was teching this line?
some corps use dups, duts, and even dits.
Bret Kuhn need to instruct the Cavies battery again. I hate their drumline now...
=..(
@wolfguy5020 the average for a corp is id say about 8-10
O my god conpare this to 2011 XD that's really weird
if even one of them turned there hat upsidedown they would of been rich
