I love the Waltons and follow Judy aka Mary Ellen on UA-cam. She talks with the cast members a lot. My favorite Walton was Grandpa Walton. He reminded me so much of my own father. That mischievous grin and could make a song up about anything. Loved being in the woods and showed me bugs and snakes and about trees and plants.

The show was never the same when Richard Thomas left the show after 5 years since the whole focus of the show was centered on the John Boy character. Bringing in Robert Wightman to take over the role of John Boy was a big mistake on the part of the producers since he could never measure up to Richard Thomas's characterization of John Boy. Then when Michael Learned left the show and with the disappearance of Ellen Corby as Ester Walton for over a season because of her stroke and the death of Will Gear, the dynamics of the show suffered.
