I have known and worked with Lauren for over 15 years doing voice work. She is a wonderful talent and an extremely kind person. When she’s in the studio she’s there to work and I love when i cast her in a part.
That's a nice thing to read! My best friend from elementary school was introduced to Lauren in 1980 (or so) by Eddie Mekka (Laverne & Shirley). He was only 12, but at the peak of her Love Boat fame, my friend Will said she was very nice to him.
My estranged wife has been clean from crack for over a year now after an extreme addiction since 2011. She did go almost 18 months clean from the fall of 2017 to June 2019. But it got really bad when the injections started in 2022. Original movie: Capt. Stubing - "Never in my presence will this ship be referred to as 'The Love Boat'." Several seasons later: Capt. Stubing - "Ah well, that's the Love Boat." Crew looks at each other in astonishment.
I went to High School with lauren. She was in the drama class and she was positive she would make it in the entertainment industry. She was very friendly and always had a big smile. Her picture is right by mine in the year book of seniors. She came from humble roots and never thought she was better than you. We missed her at our 20th. I hoped she's doing well
At that time in my life I had really bad skid marks on my underwear and acne Watching love boat was a welcome change after a Long week of acne and dirty underwear
She fell into the Hollywood trap of Fame and Drugs and when she needed help ; the powers that be turned their backs on her. Bravo to her and her cast mates for helping her to recover and be stronger for the experience 🙏😀
I knew this story before clicking on it, but just had to comment: WOW, is that thumbnail click baity (and as far as I know, it had nothing to do with her being nude on set, but lets listen and see, shalll we? 😅)
I will save everyone 14 minutes. She acquired a very serious drug addiction that impacted her performance. She did beat it and has moved on to a quiet and productive life.
Because of the love boat, I took my first cruise in 1981, I have met on that cruise 2 dear friends. Since then, even if we don't live in the same country, we travel and meet. These friendships will last for ever.
She was 'me tooed' years before abuse in Hollywood was publicized. Actors were allowed to grope/ grab her. Aaron Spelling notoriously treated women like they should be gratedul they were on TV and not complain about a few 'inconveniences' that came with the life. She had sucessfully completed rehab then was fired anyway. She was a gracious, big hearted person. Her and Charisma Carpenter's last season dismissal from Buffy were betrayals of actresses that upset me the most.
I always liked Julie and Isaac as the two most entertaining characters in the show. We never watched all of the seasons, and I think I caught one of the specials, but for the most part the Love Boat rests peacefully in my memories.
It is a shame that she got involved with drugs. I feel like many inexperienced or ingenue actors fell into this dilemma. I am glad she made it back; she was one of my favorites from the show.
Great video!! Brought me back to being a kid with one TV in the house and my sister watching one of her favorite shows ... The Love Boat, and me getting sucked into it. Thanks for the memories
I LOVED the Love Boat as a kid and thought Julie was so-PRETTY-had a-GREAT-smile and was so friendly too. Everyone slips up and makes mistakes in life,so glad she got the help she needed and turned things around. Also glad she's alive and doing well these days. Very GOOD retrospective on an old classic tv show from the 70s/80s,I enjoyed it a lot.
My favorite character on The Love Boat was Gopher. I did continue watching to the end of the series, but I didn't see the movie specials that came out afterward.
I’m very happy that Lauren got sober. She was definitely one of my favorite cast members. She’s a wonderful actress, but she became a better human being. May God bless her and keep her sober.
I was an extra on the set of the redo of "The Fugitive". Tewes played Lt. Gerard's secretary and I was in the background as a police officer going trough the files.
My memories of the show was it was on before Fantasy Island. I also marvelled at how big the staterooms were with 2 what looked like full or queen beds. Sometime after 1977 a friend of ours was on a Princess cruise. Things were laxer then, we went down to the Princess terminal at LA harbor to see her off. We actually got to go on board - I'm not sure how they kept track of us but at the appointed time we got off the ship. Anyway, we went to the friends cabin and it was SO small compared to what we see on TV - 2 twin beds and barely enough room to turn around. . Of course that's what the always say about TV.
Well I liked the show, I liked her character, but I was rather young, and didn't get into the rumors and gossip of Hollywood, it is harder to do these days but I try to separate the characters from the actors, as stated, they are people the same as us, so obviously they can have bad habits and make bad decisions, they just have theirs in the public eye as all forms of press and popularity constantly try answering the why questions. But be that as it may , some of these actors gave us some of the best characters we grew up with and attached to. I always try to catch reruns, though for this show they are few and far between these days, also it always put a smile on my face when I caught the actors of this show in other roles. It's hard to deny The Love Boat was a very fun and entertaining show. Also I do miss seeing her on a daily her smile was a beautiful thing, even for a child of my preteen age.
I remember watching The Love Boat cast on a day time talk show appearance in the early-to-mid 80's (Dinah Shore?) where, while all the rest of the cast behaved normally, Lauren's behavior was surprising and even shocking for the time. Her character on The Love Boat was squeaky clean, cute, and bubbly, but throughout the talk show segment though, she kept swearing and being bleeped repeatedly! Memorable, but for all the wrong reasons
I grew up on the Love Boat! I love the original cast but didn't care for the additions of Patricia Klous and Ted McGinley in the final two seasons. Judy was okay but, she wasn't Julie! It was probably Spelling whom made Patricia Klous' character the sister of Julie McCoy because, it worked on his other hit series Charlie's Angels(when they introduced Kris Monroe as the younger sister of Jill). I remembered watching a tv biography on Charlie's Angels and Spelling saying "if we introduce her as the kid sister, who would hate her"? I guess he had this same idea in mind with the Judy McCoy character. On other hand, i appreciate you making this video about our "favorite cruise director " and thank you for giving Ms. Tewes her flowers. Btw, Gavin MacLeod and Jill Whelan were my favorite cast members!
I was born October '71 and have a fondness for those TV shows. I thought Tewes was soo cute. She wasn't the drop dead gorgeous type, but she definitely completely iwned that cute niche.
Lauren Tewes on her last name- "'No, I never thought of changing it,' she says. 'Once people hear it, they never mispronounce it again. The name, which is German, was originally pronounced "Tavis." But when my grandfather arrived in Ellis Island from Germany, the immigration official carelessly said his name was "Tweeze," and it hung on ever since.'"
Child star ??? Don’t understand these actors being surprised when the become famous , wasn’t that the reason they got into acting . Bad excuses for bad behaviour
Aaron Spelling; the absolute king of cheese. But I have to admit that I did enjoy some of his shows, including this one. It's currently being rerun on a retro-tv station in our area and my wife and I still watch an episode from time to time. It's corny as hell but what's wrong with that? It's a fun show. And Lauren was great in it.
When I was a teenager in the late 70s I had such a massive crush on Lauren. Funny because I spell my name Loren this way. I’m glad she’s doing well and still beautiful as ever. If you’re reading this Lauren your fans adore you ❤

Lauren Tewes al aslo starred in a movie called "Eyes of a Stranger" where she plays a very different kind of role in which she is a vigilante hunting a serial killer. The critics hated it but I thought she did a good job.
As some women are, she was more attractive when she would portray a closed mouth smile. Her wide open 'teeth' smile detracted from her looking feminine compared to looking child like. This is a common problem with many women and talent agencies know this.
I am proud of her because she could have sank like the Titanic but she got back on track and is well respected. I love that her and her fellow actors on the show are ambassadors for the cruise line. She is also so freaking cute, even at 70 she is still a cutie pie.
Dont remember if it was my age or interest but I stopped watching it about the same time they replaced her because the show itself was showing its age and getting sillier.

Maybe that was part of the reason for her addiction.
This and Fantasy Island were two of the dumbest shows on television! 😂
For real! The guest stars jumped the shark when they signed on.

True. I never had a problem with it, along with other pals. But there are some who couldn't put it down. Destroyed themselves.
The reason Lauren was dismissed was very public.......it's not a secret.
