- Originally titled "Build A Bear Games Used To Be Great," changed because that was just a lie. Lately I’ve found myself longing for the old Build A Bear website… The modern day website is fine, I guess. But it’s just missing that certain spark that only Flash could lend. Well, it was a great experience for kids, at least. Revisiting the games on the Numuki browser today, the reality is more of a mixed bag that I remembered.
Let’s revisit the good, the bad, and the fuzzy. Build A Bear Ville video coming eventually.

These flash games take me back, as both an avid fan of them and Bearville, I spent HOURS on the pie eating, haunted mansion and bear bath flash games and the potion one ofc!!. The early art style for BAB is so nostalgic and homey that I miss it dearly, especially the style of the store back then, I even had a birthday party at BAB once as a kid!
My dream tbh. Still love bab to this day, when I was little I used to get 1 a year as long as I had enough birthday or Christmas money to pay for half. I think my favorite thing about them was actually the outfits and accessories rather than the actual bears haha.
as a button masher, the pie eating game was always my go-to. i almost wish there was a way to see how much time i spent playing it (then again, i'd probably be ashamed if I knew)
The haunted mansion game was my favourite and I mourn the loss of it to this day
The og buildabear flash games are such a core memory. The “she’s a cheerleader bear” soundbite from the games is burned into my brain, the halloween one was my favorite

Getting my build a bear was genuinely like receiving my best friend. I regret so much that my mom talked me into giving him to my nephew who LOST him when she thought I was too old. He was a cute brown bear just like the one in the fluffed and fabulous game and when I got to enter his code from his certificate (which I had laminated) and play with him in BuildABearVille it was like nothing else in my life, getting to go on little adventures with Todd right by my side made me feel adventure like no game ever had (,: RIP the good old days

Bearville is my favorite too! I played religiously for like a year and then stopped suddenly like maybe a year or two before it got taken down and I miss it
The virtual world of Build a Bear was my childhood and i miss it sooo much and also the flash games were also my childhood!!! When I was a child I lived and breathed Build A Bear lol
Also the Fluffed and Fabulous, Beary Scary Halloween and the Pie Eating were my favorites

6:42 I can confirm (at least from memory) that Dress-A-Bear was a hangman type game. The phrases to be guessed were bear puns and/or platitudes, and I believe they overlapped with the phrases that are printed along the ceiling of some physical build-a-bear stores! Things like “Bear in mind: Always be kind” or “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”
I feel like I spent half my childhood playing either flash games or BuildABearville but never knew this existed 😂 Excellent video as always 🙏

i played these games so much! i also remember repetetively playing the get ready game, pie eating contest, potions, and haunted house ones. i can't really explain it now, but the artstyle of these games always just made me feel soo happy, there's something so wholesome and warm about it. whoever was on the design team for these games definitely nailed it.
you're the only youtuber making research videos about things i actually give a shit about. these games were like 25% of my childhood and i couldn't find a SINGLE THING about them until now so thank you for this. i remember beary scary halloween was essentially a horror game to me off of sheer vibes alone causes i played it in the dark and was too lazy to turn on the lights lol.
if you feel like unearthing more flashgame memories that shake me to my very core, could you look into MLP flash games? specificly ones from the third generation. i distinctly remember a cake decorating game that i lost hours too but that's about it, maybe a hub world where you move left or right on a street and each new screen had a different house but that memory is less clear.

Omg if we are thinking the same game, the MLP one was a CD ROM game. Look up “My Little Pony CD ROM game” and you should be able to find a full play through!! That was a game I loved as a kid

The white kitty was also my first Build-A-Bear! I named mine Serafina after the white and pink cat in Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper!

im from finland so we dont have build a bear here but i somehow still ended up finding the website when i was super young. even more impressive is that i managed to find it multiple times even when i couldnt write or understand english at all. this video is a huge nostalgia trip for me and i agree that fluffed & fabulous was the best game!

i wonder if anyone remembers the disney princess website? it was so interactive and fun. it had a storybook layout and you could collect charms and play games. i was DEVASTATED when they remade the website.

YESSSSSSSSS. I was SO INTO their games growing up. I remember a sound clip that went like "happy birthday bear happy birthday bear happy birthday tooooo yooouuu" that I think about like........ daily. Also, the font and yellow/blue color scheme from the website back then is also used for the shopping in yo-kai watch 3! Sends me back every single time
i played SO much dress a bear it's not even funny. you're right that it was a hangman game. every time you got a letter wrong you'd lose a piece of the bear's clothing, and there were different difficulties/themes you could choose. great video as always li! i was looking for some of these games just to prove to myself that i didn't make them up, and i'm glad they're now documented on your channel!
Buildabearville has a special place in my heart. I loved playing during summer because of "camp". They werent in my country so i couldn't have a bear. Little me decided to email them a sob story and they actually sent me a code to claim up to 5 bears! A core childhood memory
I'm so glad that you mentioned Build-a-Bearville!! That was hands down my favorite virtual world game as a kid and I would love a full video on it. It would be really cool to cover all the different features of the game, especially the secret hidden areas in the map like the rooftop café and treehouse. I miss that site so so much!! ❤
Oh my GOD the witch potion and haunted mansion game have lived in my head for YEARS. I completely forgot where I remembered them from but I was utterly obsessed and would love to play them again so much. I swear part of the reason I love cute Halloween stuff because of this game, the whimsical and just spooky enough for a kid mansion was so perfect for my kid brain!
The valentines mansion was also really fun as a kid. The sound effects and everything from all these games brought back so many memories, thank you!!

I remember there being several that were virtual pet games or games relating to the different historical dolls (I remember Kit having an egg related game?) and it would be so cool to see them again! Build A Bearville was my very favourite game as a kid. I had an account on it from 2007 all the way through to when it closed. It was so cool and I vividly remember the celebrities who would release musical tracks and the like on the site, as well as the academy where you passed each grade as a student as well as a teacher. (Some of the US specific questions were really tricky for an overseas player though) It took a full year or two for the codes to be included on the birth certificates for the bears internationally, and my brain still believes to this day that I was the first kid in Australia to get a code (my mum worked for BAB at the time). Can’t WAIT for that video!
Love this website growing up! My favorite games had to be the Valentine house one, the haunted house one, the dress up word guessing game, and lastly the bathroom one where we get to click on the shower, toothbrush, and soap multiple times!

These flash games were my favorite games, the animations and sounds just always southed me. Me and my brother would sing the song about the cowboy bear country song all the time, and I was obsessed with the Halloween mansion game, though I too remember it being much more interesting
If we are doing Flash Games from stores, the ones from Claire's in the earlyish 2000s comes to mind. I now have the song from the bear designing game stuck in my head

Oh my goddddddd you have no idea how happy I am to see someone talking about the build a bear games 😭😭😭 build a bearville and webkinz were my childhood stomping grounds and in the wake of so many videos being made about 2000s nostalgia sites online I’ve been so sad that surprisingly not a lot of people have talked about webkinz or build a bearville. The nostalgia really be hitting now 😭😭
I still have my build a bear that I made when I was 8, and I’m 22 now. I still remember playing with him in build a bearville. He’s actually right next to me on my bed as I type this. The memories I have with this bear are so special to me and as silly as it might sound he’s one of my most treasured possessions and if I ever lost him I’d never recover. So thanks so much for talking about these games and taking me on this nostalgia trip 😭💕

I tried to go to a Build-A-Bear once with my dad while we were vacation to the beach. We kinda just walked in, awkwardly tried to figure out what to do, and left. I don’t remember what the staff were doing or if there were any in our line of sight at the time, but no one ever greeted us or offered to help either. (Both my dad and I are autistic, so not everything is intuitive for us.)
This video reminded me of the Build-A-Bearville MMO! Absolutely was obsessed with it since I use to go to Build-A-Bear all the time growing up , the It’s Your Bearday song still slaps

I clicked on this video at light speed because for DAYS I've been tormented by a small childhood memory of a flash game where I was helping a creature go through his morning routine but could not for the LIFE of me remember what it was. As soon as I saw the picture in your thumbnail I remembered it was from Build a Bear, and the memories came flooding back (almost all of these games were my go-tos back in the day). THANK YOU for opening up Memory Lane and letting us travel back into this small pocket of our childhoods!!

I miss Bearville. That place was so fun.
For many years, I avoided a lot of trouble kids could get in, because I was inside playing Bearville on a computer and not outside somewhere.
A lot of the kid virtual worlds have been rewritten now for adults to enjoy the nostalgia, but Bearville is still... well, people are trying, which is great. At least we have some of the old games still... not my favourites from back then, but something.
My favourite mini games/currency earning options in Bearville were... probably not popular. I was a smart kid and ahead in a lot of academics, so I liked to do the quiz games at the school and price tags at the mall - it was easy game currency for me. And the games were fun, but what I really liked was earning the currency for playing and spending it on cool stuff, and walking around Bearville with my bear!
I just loved that it was essentially like all the other kiddie virtual worlds, but adorably teddy bear themed!
I still call things "beary" something, or "pawfect".
I remember getting a BAB in my town when I was like 13. I waited SO long, so I got one at least every year and the games made me feel better about being older. You’re never too old, and I will never feel bad about it now.
We got a bear for my baby with our voices saying “i love you”, and they told us that we could get one for $1 on their due date month so we just went and got them a birthday bear. ❤ I love that my fiancé participates in the sweet heart tradition with me. 🥰
I spent years in Bearville, it was part of my online routine alongside Animal Jam and Club Penguin, as for the flash games, Fluffed and Fabulous really sticks in my head due to the song the radio plays

As far as your point about COPPA, American Girl used to have a big popup when you went to the site that basically said "kids click here to play games, adults click here to shop." I tried it just now and the pop-up didn't show, oddly enough, but you can still access the games via the navigation menu.

(I wish some of these things were still around, I didn’t get my first Build a Bear till I was like….26? But I’d love the ability to run around as a purple cat in a Ghostbusters uniform. Maybe if I ever get VR.)

8:00 I'm not a fan of country music so this is the default country song that plays in my head when i think of country music. I still remember all the words bc i played this so much😂 as kid, i loved most of these games and the ones in bearville too.
Sidenote, but I love that most of your background music is from sources I personally recognize, such as Undertale/Deltarune/Sonic the Hedgehog Games.

The Haunted House and Pie game were my favorite. I was very sad to see the games go because of the fond memories I had. Seeing them again just sent me on a train of nostalgia, especially the Buildville world. The photo game was my favorite because sometimes mythical type creatures would pop up

omg the part in the haunted house where the frankenstein monster chases you scared me so much as a kid for some reason, i would always play the bobbing for apples part and then switch to a different game. also for the hangman dress up game, i think the way it worked was for every stage you beat you got to choose a piece of clothing for the bear (i might be misremembering though)

I'm so glad you covered this topic! I tried looking up Build a Bear's old flash games myself but I could never find anything beyond the "Webkinz" like virtual world they made in later years. The old flash games are one of my fondest memories and I'm glad to know others remember them too and this wasn't just a fever dream of mine. I miss the brand's original design with those classic looking teddy bears

The pie-eating game was one of my favorites, but seeing the haunted mansion and bear bath games brought back fun memories of those too! Also, I think I had that CD you showed, or maybe one of the slightly later releases of it.

I distinctly remember the GRWM morning routine flash game and the Valentine's House game, but I definitely returned to the Avata Star Sue games waaaay more often than the Build a Bear games.

I am BEYOND excited for your video on the virtual world. I wasn't much of an Internet kid but I remember playing on that every time I got access to a computer. Thanks to people always giving me vouchers for my birthday/Xmas, I managed to build up a pretty good life on there based on codes, even as a free player. I don't know what happened to it, all I know is that I tried to find it one day and it was gone - I don't know if I missed something, but I was absolutely devastated. Nobody spoil it for me, though! My childhood trauma will be resolved through this channel and this channel only.

That frankenstein maker, and the other "click through all the options and Make Stuff" games, remind me of eyezmaze's Grow games, especially the one where you do a bunch of stuff to a seed and can eventually build an underground empire of one-eyed creatures - I think I found an app version of that one at some point? I used to LOVE the eyezmaze games as a kid and it makes me sad that no one talks about them

Bearville's demise is one of my saddest childhood memories. I lived on that world. I even dug out my childhood bear's birth certificate so I could have her in the game! It was a fantastic virtual world, as they go. The music is drilled into my brain
Build a Bear was one of those few websites we were allowed to go on after finishing typing exercises in my grade school computer class. I can’t tell you how many times I played the Halloween and valentine’s houses. And what about the Blarney Stone kissing game?? Don’t tell me it’s lost to time 😭
