  • Introducing the all-new EQB, Mercedes-Benz has once again demonstrated its commitment to electrification and the future of mobility. Building on the success of its boxy SUVs, the EQB combines a spacious and iconic design with futuristic elements, creating a distinctive look that captures the essence of Mercedes-EQ.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of the Daimler Group, explains, "With the EQB, we've taken the sizable boxy silhouette and infused it with modern features like the black fascia on the front end, resulting in a truly unique vehicle."
The EQB is making its debut in China as a top model with the AMG Line and a powerful 215 kW motor. In Europe, customers will have a range of options, including front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models with various power levels, some exceeding 200 kW. The usable battery capacity in Europe is 66.5 kWh, with batteries produced at Daimler's factories in Kamenets, Germany, and Jawor, Poland. Additionally, a long-range version of the EQB is planned to offer even greater driving distance.
In terms of sustainability, the EQB boasts impressive numbers. The EQB 350 4MATIC variant in Europe has a combined electricity consumption of 16.2 kWh/100 km, zero CO2 emissions, and a range of 478 km according to the NEDC standard. In line with the WLTP standard, the combined electricity consumption is estimated to be between 19.2 and 18.1 kWh/100 km, with a range of 419 km.
Mercedes-Benz Cars is making significant progress in its electrification efforts this year, introducing four new Mercedes-EQ models: EQA, EQB, EQE electric business sedan, and EQS. The company is also expanding its plug-in hybrid family, including electrified versions of the C-Class and S-Class, with over 20 model variants currently available. By the end of 2021, Mercedes-Benz Cars aims to achieve an xEV (plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles) market share of approximately 13 percent. Furthermore, the brand's luxury vehicles are incorporating mild hybrids with a starter-generator and a 48-volt system.
The EQB impresses not only with its striking design but also with its practicality. With a length, width, and height of 4684/1834/1667 millimeters, respectively, the EQB offers ample space and a maximum boot volume of 1710 liters. The long wheelbase of the GLB (2829 millimeters) allows for adjustable backrests in the second row as standard, with an optional 140 millimeters of longitudinal adjustment.
While the EQA and EQS are already making their way to European dealerships, the Chinese version of the EQB will debut in Shanghai and be produced in Beijing. The European version is scheduled to launch in 2021, with the EQB expected to arrive in the US in 2022. Production of the EQB in Hungary marks an important milestone as the first all-electric vehicle manufactured at the Kecskemét plant, which previously produced plug-in hybrid models. Additionally, the A-Class plug-in hybrid will also be produced at the Kecskemét facility alongside the German Mercedes-Benz plant in Rastatt, where the EQA is currently manufactured.
The EQB range offers a variety of models, including front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options with power ratings exceeding 200 kW, as well as batteries with usable capacities starting from 66.5 kWh. A long-range version is also in the pipeline, catering to customers' diverse needs and preferences.
