  • In this video, I explain what the best dog itch medication is, or maybe more precisely. I go over most of the medications used to control itch in dogs and talk about the pros and cons of all of them. In this video, I discuss the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of Prednisone, Apoquel, Cytopoint, Benadryl, Zyrtec, and atopica. There are other medications used for itch, but these are the main ones that are used and talked about, so I mostly focused on these medications!
    Thank you guys so much for watching, below you will see my Twitter account and a few affiliate links to some products below, if you click them and buy something, I get a small kickback that helps to fund this channel. If I have filmed a video talking about that product, there will also be a link to that video down below!

    All these drugs will kill your dog. Just have your vet prescribe the shampoo with 2 percent miconizole/hexadrine.

      If only it were that simple. Many dogs' itching cannot be controlled this way. These medications may be overprescribed, but that doesn't mean there are not dogs that require them for quality of life and safety.

    Cytopoint lasted 2 weeks for us, apoquel has started wearing off effects after two years of use. Predinisone always helps but my vet won’t refill it

      Pred can have some pretty extensive side effects especially with long term use. I would also look at other things like baths, food allergies, using fish oil, and some of those things to help out too!

      In the 90s our cocker spaniel was prednisone dependent for her allergies and chronic skin and ear infections. We knew the long term effects but we went with quality over quantity and eventually her kidneys suffered. Prednisone is nit great long term.

    Hi my pug has atopi and depends on apoquel. I'm considerng to give my pug cytopoint, but there's someting bothering me in your vid that cytopoint can't prevent inflamation and only prevent itch. So is it possible that if my dog won't itch but can still develop hives after cytopoint injection?

    • @DoctorDawson
      @DoctorDawson  Рік тому

      I would talk to your vet about that, it can definitely be helpful for itch, but it doesn't stop inflammation the same way apoquel or benadryl or Prednisone can

      @@DoctorDawson Thank you for your response.
      My pug just received cytopoint injection 4 days ago and i can notice there's a reduction in itching but still develop redness on skin.
      Unfortunately vets in my place don't have information about cytopoint in detail as cytopoint only available since early 2023 in my country.

      There is a Dr. Jones on here that I have watched. I have done everything that he suggested and my dog is much better. She gets 2 baths a week in Selsun Blue with Selenium sulfide..and I give her apple cider vinegar supplements every day because I think she has yeast. You can also use that topically for itch in between baths. I also use monistat in her ears for yeast and on hot spots.. but check out Dr. Jones! He's amazing ❤
