The swelling is gone and all feathers are missing from the affected area of the head, but there's still a lump in front of the left eye.

Fabulous news. A rare bit of positivity in an increasingly mad world. I suspect the swelling was maybe an insect/bee/wasp sting that was full of fluid. Here's hoping the young chap lives long and prospers.

Ah, i hadn't thought of that.. Do get wasps on the meat at the top perch when it's very hot, although the Crows just eat them.

That magpie is a survivor. They are beautiful birds. I watched a documentary about magpies a few years ago.
