Great video, Costi! In the context of a modern worship service, this idea of "inviting the Holy Spirit" is closely linked to the mysticism that is foundational to contemporary Evangelicalism. This is a totally subjective concept that has to be reinforced with the use of hypnotic music that instills a feeling into the audience, and that feeling is usually interpreted to be "The Holy Spirit." But it's just a feeling, and all sorts of music can instill all sorts of feelings.

If we're truly saved the Holy Spirit has taken up permanent residence inside of us for eternity, instant access to our heavenly father and Jesus, the triune Spirit of the living God dwells in us, and he will never leave or forsake us, ever.

One thing Scripture makes very clear is that even though God is omnipresent there are still times when His presence is manifested in a noticeable way, like at the dedication of the Temple in the OT, or on the Day of Pentecost, or when the believers prayed for boldness and the building shook in Acts 4:31.

Exactly. And I've experienced a more (sometimes much more) intense presence of God during things like prayer, worship or some services. Why does the bible say God inhabits the praise of His people if He's just already there and there is no change? I've been in meetings or even praying in a group in a house where the presence of God fell so strong it was undeniable. The bible also speaks of 'times of refreshing' that come from the presence of the Lord. It's always when we are drawing near to God, 'Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.(James 4:8, KJV) But of course we are dealing with cessationist calvinists here lol.

Amen. Also, we needn't end each prayer with the words... "in Jesus' Name, amen." If we are true believers, we are already in Christ, and every prayer we offer to the Father is always "in the Name" of the One whom we are in.

Col 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
To end a prayer in Jesus’ name is to do what this verse commands. It’s to recognize that we are praying in His name, that every word that came out of our mouths was in His name.
Let’s say you may be right, personally I prefer to end my prayers in Jesus’ name simply because Jesus is the Amen.
      Blessings!

The simplicity of why many churches are powerless is because the Holy Spirit is NOT among them. Even when He comes to do His work, I find the leaders will quench Him.
In my area, it's frustrating that I cannot find God's presence in any church. What I see is churches manufacture "the spirit of worship" by secular concert ways. Great lights, big screens, loud music, inciting by repetiton with superficial lyrics. All adrenaline.
I will say this - if God's presence was among us at church, why are we so eager to leave after the service?
    As A.W. Tozer once said:
"Christians don't lie, they just sign them in churches."

The problem is based on the fact that the concept has been redefined and has lost its meaning.
Church has been changed from being people indewlled by the Holy Spirit and being now a place without Holy Spirit where people meet .
Since this place has no Holy Spirit in it , there a need to something that render this place compatible to true worship.
The church is all people together who are indwell by the Holy Spirit whom was given to them by Father through Jesus-Christ.
Whenever they meeting, they come with the Holy Spirit in them , they are the church, they didn't come church but they have come to have a church gathering. Whenever 2 or 3 of these people meet God is among them, he promises that. Then why invite the Holy Spirit?
The one thing they can say is to thank God for his presence among them.

I love this guy but I feel like he’s completely missed the heart behind when people are saying this. The Bible says to not waste time arguing over the meaning of words. I understand the perspective of us entering in to His presence, however it’s the same Jesus who tells us “Behold, I stand at the door and knock...” He’s saying invite Me in. This is the same heart behind when people invite the Holy Spirit.

    • @gracepilditch9388

As I understand it, all true believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The minute you are regenerated, born again and repent of your sins, the Lord
imputes our sin to Jesus, we are new creations and are covered in Jesus’ righteousness. We are forgiven, redeemed, restored and adopted into God’s family.
In John 14:16, Jesus promised the Spirit would indwell believers and that the indwelling would be permanent. The permanent indwelling of the Spirit is not for a select few believers, but for all believers.
Also, the idea of Jesus standing at a door and knocking is often used as an illustration of Jesus’ offer of salvation to individuals: if you would only “open your heart’s door” and let Jesus into your life, all will be well. But in Revelation 3:20, I don’t think Jesus is pleading with an individual to be saved; He’s seeking admittance to a church! It’s alarming to think of Jesus standing outside the church and knocking, but that’s the position He was in. The Laodicean church had shut the door on the Head of the church; they were smug in their prosperity, but Jesus was left standing in the cold. He was an outsider to the hearts of the entire congregation.

When Bible says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock...” It has nothing to do with Jesus being invited. It talks about Him returning to His house (picture of His coming--related to Revelation). Jesus is the master of the household.

@David Owens.I agree. There is nothing in the Bible that says you shouldn’t or should pray before you have a meal. Nothing in the Bible that says you can or can’t ask the Holy Spirit into your life. I read passages from the Old Testament where King David and Solomon asked for God’s presence and wisdom. Both King David were successful at ruling Israel. However Saul was a proud king and I couldn’t locate any passages where Saul asked for God’s presence. An evil spirit of anger came over Saul and King David calmed Saul down by playing his musical instrument. The Bible is mute about many things that we do today out of habit. As for me I will continue to ask for God’s presence in my day to day activities because it keeps me humble like it kept King David humble. Psalms 51:11

    Dear Sir,
I commend you for your courageous decision to distance yourself from your uncle's ministry. I do have a question stemming from another video you made, where you expressed reservations about listening to Bethel Music due to their interpretation of Christology. Specifically, you questioned the notion that Christ performed miracles as a man rather than as God. Have you considered Philippians 2:6-8, which suggests that Christ, though divine, relinquished His divine attributes to become fully human? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this verse.

A HUGE MISUNDERSTANDING: no third divine person exists!
Jesus has the Father who IS HERE and is a spirit "God is a spirit.". That "Father who is A SPIRIT" is called "FATHER" by Jesus. But inversely the "SPIRIT who is the Father" (nothing changes since He is the same God, Jesus just emphasizes He is a spirit) is called "HOLY SPIRIT" by Jesus. Thus, "HOLY SPIRIT" and "FATHER" (who is a spirit) are fully EQUIVALENT NAMES! The two fully EQUIVALENT NAMES are used interchangeably in the various events disclosed by the gospels (Mary's pregnancy, Jesus' baptism (the Father - AKA Holy Spirit - speaks and takes actions in heaven), help given to Jesus in his journey into the wilderness and in speaking, the 2 blasphemies...). The "Spirit of truth" is not the "Holy Spirit", different names.
You have proof that the name "Holy Spirit" identifies the Father: the Holy Spirit is with Jesus, but you know that THE FATHER is the ONLY ONE Person with Jesus "I am not ALONE because the Father is with me" (reiterated many times in all different ways). Therefore, the Holy Spirit with Jesus can only be the Father, who is the ONLY PERSON there with Him.
