Fellow Helicopter pilot here. Your chopper is a beaut! I am particularly a big fan of the Hughes 500, especially the D and E series, but also love the MBB Bo 105. I can vouch for Heavy D's comments on the hovering aspect. Once you learn how to do it, it's second nature, but sometimes you need the "Hover Fairy" to tap you on the head during your training and suddenly it all makes sense. Key is ...small inputs, don't stir the pot! It's like trying to balance a ball bearing on a sheet of glass. You also want to avoid dynamic rollover at all costs as if it happens and you pass the COG then your probably not coming back from that.... flying a Heli is harder than it looks, believe me.
Heavy D, You have an amazing range of skills! I only discovered your channel a week ago and I have been watching what you do. Amazing work and great quality video's. Cheers from Oz
Been told that about landing fix wing. Do it many times and then one day all clicks.

As a retired A/C mechanic that has spent countless hours out in the gulf of Mexico living and working offshore, working on numerous makes and models of helicopters, the Bo-105 is my all time favorite. Yours is a beautiful machine and brought back great memories. Thanks.

Being a private pilot myself, I extremely loved this video man. I fly mainly Cessna 182's with the CAP AirForce auxiliary. We do search and rescue, damage assessment, reconnaissance. You explained everything very thoroughly and professionally, you fr could be an awesome instructor. Helicopters have a lot of the same round dial(steam gauges) that fixed wing planes have, more than I thought! I'm used to G1000 system with a few backup round dials. Do they make a Garmin 1000 or foreflight for helicopters that you know of? One of my dreams was to be a medivac pilot but didn't persue it because of the hour requirement you need to have would take forever and tons of money without joining military. One day I'm going to get my heli license and own a helicopter, for sure. Keep it up Heavy D team. Y'all guys are down to earth and just plain awesome.
1:28 is better than any pre flight briefing I've gotten for helicopter safety on any military flight. Keep up the good work.

Why was my reaction to the title: "oh crap why did he let cleetus fly a helicopter?"
i thought the exact same thing!
It needs a bigger turbo and nitrous.
because you know he took garret for a ride and he cant keep his hands off controls whether it be a paver or a helicopter
cletus is actually working on his rotary license.
Hahaha thought the same thing!
As a total gear head and fight enthusiast that was really informative. Thanks D!
D !!! You the man !! You are flying one of my favorite chopper BO105. I did the whole ground school for rotary flying back in the day, but never had the chance to really get off the ground. For a young guy who's starting a family, I had too much on my plate. Anyway, God has blessed me in many ways. He has blessed me with the same job for 36yrs and 2 wonderful boys. Someday I will come visit UT ... stay tuned D 🤙be safe 🙏
“Loose wire”!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Covered in grease!!!!! Hahahahahaha
Mate, just awesome. I never comment on videos but this is great. I was the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a single fixed wing, that went well but I then survived a bad crash after an engine failure on takeoff in a vintage biplane. Diagnosed a paraplegic, I managed to get back to walking somewhat okay, back to certain fixed wing flying but learnt to fly choppers as an incomplete paraplegic. I love rotary. This video will inspire a new wave of pilots. I’d love to bring the Super Cub across from Nashville and say g’day. Do you live near the Patey’s?
I wanna see heavy D with Mike Patey and Cleetus. That would be an insane combo
As a trucker, I never thought I'd be wheeling a 40 ton truck through the rockies on a 8% downgrade with ice and shit but here I am and I'd like the think I'm pretty good at it after all these years. I reckon it's time to learn how to fly one of dem choppi bois... lmao
Edit: also traffic is shit.
I always wanted to fly a 105. I flew the 117 and loved every minute. The rigid rotor can make that 105 dance.... Beautiful!! Great choice for a toy in the garage!!

17:30 That is one sound I will never get tired off. Our police had 2x Bo-105's at our Airforce base I was stationed at. I was in the fuel dept so we worked with them a lot. Spent many hours in the back seat while they were patrolling or monitoring crowds.
I like how Heavy D takes the time to explain the geography we have in Utah. He's not joking when he says that sand will trap you. It can be like a giant black hole that swallows your tires in a second.
As soon as it started out like a Sporty's video I laughed. Good one!
Man I can't even explain how cool it would be to be able to spend a day, weekend, or whatever with y'all! As a single father my life is so repetitive and mostly boring. Seeing the stuff y'all do is incredible to me!

from a fellow helicopter pilot, great video, really explains things simply and in a fun way...one thing, N1 is the engine Gas Producer speed in percent, not compressor speed.
Just get your A&P lisence it’s easy as hell I did the 14 month course 6 years ago. It would be very beneficial in your case!👊🏻
Yeah, I'm sure he has a spare 14 months laying around.
An A&P can not perform an Annual Inspection, that would require an IA Certificate which would not be worth the time & training.
That Heli isn’t exactly the best to try to hover so it’s a testament to how good he is
bo 105....old mate not messing around!
I grew up around this Helicopter in the German army, it hovers quite well, it's also a great yanking and banking machine.
Hover below the tree line, waiting for a target, popup, fire a HOT and disappear.
Thanks to that rigid rotor system, it's response was rock solid.....MBB BO-105.
Look up Charlie Zimmerman and what he could do with it.
@Yankee Fan just because of the 4 rotor system. This chopper is made to maneuver! The 2 rotors are better for cruising and hovering. Not as touchy in my opinion. It’s not the airframe I’m talking about
@@remb1500 literally nothing you said is correct 😂
@@txtallywhacker sorry I meant blades. Same chopper, one with 2 blade and one with 4 the 4 blade will perform better
I was raised by an Army Vietnam vet pilot. Taught me to fly very early. Sadly, I never could get motivated to get my license. Listening to your instructions reminds me so much of my uncle. All the terms and everything. Always so calm when flying and teaching. Fun stuff!! Thanks for the vid!!

The VHS format was gold.
Heavy D and Diesel Dave were those kids in elementary who refused to wear coats in the winter to school. The sun might be shining, but I know it's still cold in this video, because I live in Utah.
I do too, and it hasn't been THAT cold haha.
I feel like I can take a crack at attempting this now. As a drummer I have really good limb independence; which seems critical to being a good helicopter pilot. Awesome video!
That blue sky in these videos never seizes to amaze me. I’ve been to Colorado multiple times and seen that sky in person, but it will never get old for me to see.
Ok, inquiring minds want to know,- did Heavy D get the 80's suit at: Centerville DI, SLC DI, or was it a find in the Gardners' warehouse treasure hunt??😜

ETL: The old Vietnam pilots would teach us new guys to skillfully ease the Huey forward gently reaching ETL thus using less power making it possible to lift more weight off the ground. (The Huey's performance is much more restricted than a Blackhawk.)
I wanted to fly helicopters when I was younger. I was prepared to go to school for it and was talked out of it by so many people. Still regret never doing it.
Hey you can still do it it’s never to late Follow your dream
Pretty cool to see what my old "office" looks like now. I flew N131AE for an EMS company located in AZ, with that ship based in Casa Grande from 1999-2000. I have fond memories of the 200 + hours I have in that ship and really like the red/black paint scheme you're running. Enjoy!
Cross training is such a group improvement especially in the line of work you do, when anyone can jump in and work any of the equipment available is such a valuable tool to mitigate risk and increase success. Thank you for sharing such valuable information.
I learned more in this video than I have ever learned in school 😂
I’ve been watching you guys for years but, only when I heard about the accident you guys had and your friendship I’ve decided to subscribe. What you guys have it’s so amazing and special, I’m rather new in US and this made me miss my best friend for back home...PS , tell your grandpa that I can use an guardian angel
I was hoping Heavy D was going to give a little love to Cleeters Galaxy.
Great video intro! For future ones, when speaking about controls (e.g. @ 4:45 "This gage right here...") please do a close-up, and bring your in-cabin video lighting up to the quality of your audio. The dashboard looks really dark, and I am watching this on a desktop monitor. Everything that appears basic/obvious to you, it's 'dear-in-the-headlights' for most looking to learn the super basics. Other than that, keep up the good work!
I’ve never changed a starter on a helicopter but then again neither have you. Lol loose wire every time!

This will help me once the Zombie apocalypse happens and I have to fine a chopper 😂😂

Awesome instructional video, I’ve been curious as to how a helicopter flies! Very cool 😎. Heavy D and Diesel Dave can do anything, Kroger on the other hand 6:50
Such a cool video and super informational. Ive done a couple rotary lessons but more recently i've become an FPV pilot for drones. Not saying flying drones are even remotely close, but like you said any change in speed or direction is a combination of moves of a couple things. Tough to initially learn and get the feel for, but damn its so much fun once you get it all flowing together and youre just flying by feel. Awesome vid man
Damn he taught me better about the helicopters than my teachers did in school

One time I flew a kite. So that’s pretty cool.
Once I flew an RC helicopter so I mean... I'm obviously licensed to fly a real one. Obviously.
Loose wire, or starter motor and didn’t want FAA to know he replaced it himself. Lol
The sun didn't move on the horizon. No way he swapped the starter.

Uh...no. I've been in one when things went not so well. That's the best medicine for anyone with whirlybird sickness.
As An A&P mechanic on helicopters (OH-58, Bell 206 and Uh-60) I recognized that engine right away. Rolls Royce (Allison) 250 series engine. I love the sound of them starting.
