Easy install. I did the same for my spare on the Bronco. I also have the 3rd brake light ring inside the spare. Great setup. 4gls is great to have. Used them once on an 8 day trip. I'm also exploring getting that rack that goes on the spare tire (like Justin B. McBride's Bronco) probably put the tailgate reinforcement bracket on along with it when I do it. Great video - two thumbs up!
Awesome and thank you, having that extra fuel really gives peace of mind and makes a difference, i have had to use ours several times on long trips off the highway, and better yet i have been able to help others who had run out on the trail paying it forward if you will. Hope you are enjoying the bronco, thanks for checking out the channel!
Awesome, thanks for the comment and it is a great setup and while you may not think you need the fuel, when you do, you do!!! Sounds simple but when your in the middle of nowhere and the gas light comes on, its a huge relief to be able to have it
Thinking of shipping a Pajero Mini from Japan to where I am in Utah. It would be a blast to take it on some trails. Those little things only have a 7 gallon tank, so strapping 4 gallons onto the spare tire is quite a lot! I might get one of these if I get one of those little rigs.
@@FischerJeepAdventures I also slightly deflated the tire then tightened the strap and then reinflated the tire to get it a little tighter, only deflated 10 lbs or so.
Very nice informative video! Great Job! 👏 👍 It's a shame in the World we all live in that we must lock our things. Most of us are hard working Americans, and thieves will steal.
Thank you and yes It is a shame that anything not tied down, locked, or secured other people will try and take! The world has change alot since i was a kid in the late 70’s and 80’s
The ratchet strap does not lock from a security standpoint just in the form of the ratchet mechanism that secures the mounts to the spare tire. The locks are on the rotopax assembly itself, the handles for each rotopax have a lock in them, you can get them without locks but i opted for the locks just for deterrence, i also run a cable lock through the tray and box system and spare tire mount to just secure it to the vehicle.
You didnt there is not a way to lock the ratchet straps, plus they can be cut with a knife if people are determined, the lock on the rotopax is cheap insurance to make it difficult to take them, sure they can try and undo the straps and then get the assembly off and try and runaway with the entire mess, but i am going to make it hard, the harder things are to take the less likely the opportunistic criminal will act. So to your point yes they can still be taken but like I said I am gonna make it difficult to do so
I use a similar system... but with the much cheaper Long Haul cans from China. I put a lock on my strap but like he said, anyone can cut the strap or just siphon the gas. Siphoning the gas is how I'd prefer it to be stolen if it happens because that is the cheapest and easiest thing to replace. When it comes to this stuff, my thoughts are just to make it so some impulsive kid walking by can't take my shit. Anyone who comes to my jeep with a plan, I have very little defense from. I'm a believer that most of these crimes are targets of opportunity, and even a simple heavy-duty ziptie on the strap handle can make a kid walk away. If he can cut the tie, he can cut the strap. 🤷♂️
What is preventing from someone stealing all of the parts from the tire? Couldn’t someone easily and quickly take all the parts off the tire? Are you using or is there anything that locks the straps?
Joe, great question, i use a locking cable that locks the tire tray and roam box that i built to the spare tire, the straps that hold the rotopax run through the trays base so essentially yes someone could undue the ratchet or cut the strap and take the assemblies but since i used locking mounts even if they got them off its probably not worth the effort all for a 80.00 gas can that only holds 2 gallons, the reality is if someone intends to take something they will, but i think i have made it difficult enough that most folks would not mess with it or atleast i hope so
Eriq thats a great question, I never really thought about that, i think that given the size of the plates that it would, but if that happened i would use my tire repair kit and plug the leak so i could reinflate the tire if at all possible. Great question!!
I wish people would just keep there hands to themselves, i am not aware of a locking ratchet, I guess you could try and take a long shank padlock and run it through both parts of the ratchet system to keep it from opening, i will have to look but i think the ones i bought are big enough to do that, thats all i can think of
@FischerJeepAdventures yeah unfortunately. Last year someone stole my trasheroo off my spare, and it was full of trash. Was on my way back home from a trip too, I don't keep my gear on my jeep unless I'm on a trip.
Sorry about that, there used to be a time when i was a kid where you could leave your doors unlocked and people respected your stuff, now it seems like if its not locked down and locked away people see it as an invitation to take what others have worked hard for, I am with you I dont leave anything on my jeep thats not bolted down and secured when I am not on trips for that same reason
Its rock solid, I did over 16 hours of interstate driving at 70mph and 700 miles offroad on the kentucky adventure trail about a month ago with zero issues, the straps stayed tight the whole time and didnt budge, i had both packs full with my tray and box set up as well, really happy with the setup
Great question, like with most things locks only deter they dont prevent, The way i run the straps the ratchet is u der the tire and when the tailgate is closed its would nearly impossible to release them, they could cut the straps but the rotopax are still locked to the plates and that would be a super awkward thing to try and run away with and the tray is cable locked to the tire. So all in all you are correct some one could try and steal the entire set up, but I am not going to make it easy, thanks for checking out the channel!
@@FischerJeepAdventures wishing you more subds and views. You deserve more brother! Thank you. And btw, everytime you diy build, please make a video. Dont skip those part, very important. Check this guy baptism overland. No compairing. Its just nice to watch a complete video of diy builds. Peace-
Because, a lock keeps and honest man honest, if they want to steal the gas they will but I am not gonna make it easy for them and they are gonna have to work at it an be obviously taking something thats not theirs, oh and it has worked so far
Studies have shown that the smell of petrol in your car, is no where near as offensive as the smell of an incinerated body after being rear ended, spraying flammable liquid over the entire vehicle, pending an ensuing inferno.
Well thats certainly a perspective that is yours, one thing you forget is the persistent exposure to the vapor that comes from gasoline is toxic to your lungs, cause a myriad of cancers, gets infused into every cloth surface, contaminates anything edible inside your vehicle, and last but not least creates when containing inside a closed vehicle a potential explosive environment as the vapor is extremely flammable, while yea if you are rear ended by tractor trailer or large enough suv to break the rotopax gas will leak but at that point its the least of your worries as the damage done to your vehicle most likely has a far greater effect on your life and i would much rather have gas spilling on the outside than on the inside not to mention the thousands of miles you exposed yourself and everything you own to the gas vapor you put in your vehicle
Rich, i am with you, with the system i have set up and the locking mounts it would be really difficult and really not worth it to steal anything, i only have the setup when i am on the trail on a trip and since i camp, i am really never leaving my jeep anywhere for any extended amount of time un attended. I have done everything i can to make theft not easy or opportunistic and hopefully that is enough of a deterrent. I just dont think the juice is worth the squeeze for what a would be thief would get vrs the risk

Would be nice if that company made a matching top mounted small rack for a cooler.
I agree, but thats why i built my own and use there set up to hold it down, thanks for the comment

Thanks, I was happy with how it turned out, have you been happy with it?
Great job! Thanks!

I have the same setup, only with water, I had to rotate the drivers side up to about 10:00 position so I could use the tailgate handle.
Awesome! I can just get my hand into the handle as i have them set so i didnt have to move them up but that was the next step!

Maybe I missed it, but is there some way of locking the ratchet strap? Seems like a waste to have locking rotopacks mounted on an unsecured strap.

Don't install these vertically as shown in the video because that blocks access to the tailgate handle. Position the cans at about 45 degrees instead
That is not correct, I hav run this set up for over 6000 miles and you can get to the tailgate handle just fine.
Looks like anyone could just cut the strap and Stella the whole set up.
They can, my goal was just to not make it easy, they can cut the straps but they wont get the roto packs off the mounts without some work
Looks like anyone could just cut the strap and steal the entire $350 set up.
This is completely wrong to be fixed on stock wranglers unless you make strong modifications enforcement to the rear door
Well i dont have a stock wrangler and the door hinges are reinforced by a bracket capable of holding a 37 inch tire.
