this is getting around in the algorithm...came into my feed as a recommendation. I'm a 60 yo Queenslander with a strong 'Strine' accent...I probably could do with some english lessons :) Good luck mate, hope your channel takes off. From my perspective really good. I lived in Sumatra for 5 years and the way you're talking is exactly how you have to talk for english students. liked and subbed.
Saying it was "just green fields" is a common thing old people say when they are in a newly built-up area. He wasn't being literal. It's a joke English people make about the way old people speak.
Lol you realise he is a comedian and he will say anything true or not to get a laugh? Just like a thousand people have pointed out that Perth wasnt green paddocks at that time either :) Nice general knowledge though mate, that tidbit of info should come in handy on quiznights
@@LearnEnglishwithanAussieAccent You're the one who indicated that Neighbours was popular in 1981. You will note that Stephen Fry said, "...pre Neighbours...", when referring to 1981.
Thx, I just rewatched what I said and I reiterated "pre neighbours " which means before neighbours, and then in a bit I say " these weren't popular" referring to Aussie TV shows in general :) thx for the comments tho
Thanks for that... its a humourous play on words that Stephen is using to make it sound like its a long time ago... Im well aware of what Perth was like at that era, I LIVE here. This is a BEGINNERS ENGLISH PODCAST! as the title states, its from that perspective that this is written, thanks for your input though, have a great day
talk a bit slower. He watched the telly vision. oh. You live in Perth. He said he went to Perth. Wow. He says pre-neighbours. A TV show?! No way?! Skippy was a TV show about a kangaroo? you are insightful.going now.
@paulbishop7399 I'm not sure why people are clicking on a title that CLEARLY says "Beginner English Podcast" please let me know how everything You have described doesn't belong in a beginner English Podcast? Have a great day

Exactly, it's the same here in Australia, This is aimed at beginners so I wanted to make sure a literal picture painted the analogy
"Neighbours" wasn't popular in 1981 because it did not start production until 1985.

I think it is confusing that the words interstate and intrastate sound similar but mean different things.
Yes, it's a small sound difference but a big meaning difference
Uh... are you talking about Perth, Australia? It was absolutely built up, no paddocks. I have no idea what you're talking about.
