      Thanks! Glad you liked it! As much as I love super expensive gear.. realistically I can’t just go and drop all that money due to other expenses in life! But man, this scope has paid for itself in the amount of use I’ve gotten out of it. Just went hunting with it again this week and tagged a painted desert sheep, Iranian red sheep and more hogs! Update video will definitely be posted!

    I'm a somewhat noob to guns, especially rifles. Just got my first. A Sig 716i. I had no clue about scopes but wanted one. I said to the guy in the gun store I want a Sig. He pulled out the one you review here, the price was right and he installed it. I've now been to the range and put about 100 rounds through it. My first experience with a scope. It worked very well. Absolutely no complaints. I am guilty of believing the more you spend the more you get. But the rifle alone was 1700. I'd be hardpressed to spend more on a scope. Excellent video. Subbed. ty.

    • @SabertoothDefenseSystems
      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the sub! Glad you found it helpful! Don’t get me wrong, the expensive optics are pricey for a reason. They are awesome to use. But I’m a firm believer that you hit a point of diminishing returns after a certain price point. It’s all user preference and what they prefer, but I’ll say for sure that the features and performance of the scope so far have been worth it, especially for the price point. It’s definitely harder and harder to put money down on leisure items with costs of every day life going up, so I find this optic was a good option for still remaining budget conscious as compared to its competition! Hope you enjoy some of the other content on the channel and happy shooting!

    The occluded aiming concept you discussed is the reason I have lens covers on all of my LPVO and a few of my red dots. I even have a GG&G set on my Eotech XPS3. I do this for two reasons. For the LPVO, it's actually less distracting to use it at close range with a lens cap on if you don't have an alternate optic/sight. Secondly, I use a lens cap on my red dots and the holographic for no-light use. The lens cover allows you to use less illumination for a crisper reticle pattern and it blocks reflected light from weapon lights washing out your optic. As weapon lights continue to get brighter, it increases the amount of reflected light coming back at you during room clearing. Without something to prevent optic washout, you'd have to run your optic at a much higher setting. This greatly reduces battery life as most life estimates are based on moderate settings. I'm a weapons instructor for my agency and specialize in low-light tactics, particularly the equipment. I've been messing with weapon lights and optics since they were introduced to patrol use. People need to get their heads out of their optics and concentrate more on their surroundings. Great review. I've been looking at this optic and was happy to find your channel.

    • @SabertoothDefenseSystems
      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  2 роки тому +1

      Great points made indeed! Yeah the occluded optic concept blew my mind when we put it into practice in our RDS transition school. It forces you to focus on the target and not get sucked in to your optic. Glad I learned it and was smart enough to apply it to LPVO’s. I like the point you made with the lens caps on the holographic sights for no light use. Didn’t think about the weapon light washing out the reticle! Glad you found the channel. Thanks for watching!

    18oz is really not bad for a 1-10 optic. I would worry a bit about the build quality and ruggedness because of the light weight at this price point. That being said, nobody should be expecting bombproof durability for a $500 1-10 lpvo. Most gun accessories are a balance between price point, feature set and durability. Generally you can only have 2 out of 3.

    • @SabertoothDefenseSystems

      Yeah man it’s getting out of hand to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I love super high quality optics that cost a pretty penny. But that’s the issue, I can’t always afford that with all of my other obligations in life. The reality is that even the “budget” optics are about 10x more reliable than they were 20 years ago and will absolutely do the job. Too many people are buying things they can’t afford simply for Instagram clout. It’s absurd. Sometimes I just can’t afford something and my money is better spent elsewhere! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the review , I went with the 1-6 on my new P415 edge. Haven’t shot it yet , waiting for this icy weather to clear up. As long as you know the limitations ahead of time you’ll be fine , not all of us can drop $2k in a scope plus mount. The fact Sig include a mount with the torque specs is really cool. These Sig LPVO's recently dropped in prices, the 1x6 and the 1x10. I bought them for hog hunting and the 1x6 has performed really good at 100 yards +.
    I use 6.5 Grendel for just about everything and I have had no problem with using the reticle (200 yards max so far). Really easy at that distance.
    I have not used the 1x10 for hunting yet but it has been awesome for range plinking. I may mount it on a 308 build in the future.
    Sig did a great job by including the mount and torque specs, Primary Arms and Vortex should take notice.

    Great review. I agree 100% with the tactical elitism statement. I've met tons of guys at classes with all the latest and greatest stuff but were completely lacking in the department that matters most and that training. The only time I pay big money for optics is on my long range bolt guns. Better glass quality to read wind and identify targets is a must past certain distances and even then you only need "good enough" to accomplish the intended task. I'm currently trying to get one of these in had so do a comparison video between this and the Swampfox 1-10.

      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for checking out the video. Yeah for sure. Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with having the latest and greatest and taking pride in having expensive stuff! But most people do not need them, and can’t justify the cost anyways.. yet they go in to debt or blow all of their money on the items all for the sake of being cool. Not to mention most people don’t take their guns to the range enough to justify needing expensive products. To each their own, this is America and you can buy whatever you want! But some people need to actually consider not blowing all of their money on expensive toys, and maybe focus on.. idk.. saving money, paying off your house, debt, other important things in life? I was not. On the night hunt, my dad sat next to me with a large red spotlight and illuminated it right before I took my shot. There was enough moonlight to see the hog there and after I was in position and ready he shined the light and I took a quick shot. From others that have hunted them at night without night vision, the red spotlight was what was recommended, as white light would scare them off. I've personally been able to check out both and the Sig is far superior in just about every aspect.... But for almost 300 bucks cheaper you can get the Sig 1-6x msr that has a much better 1x, much more forgiving eyebox, smaller / lighter package and more actual ballistic hold use with sfp at 6x. Anything that's sfp over 6x is extremely overkill and all previous benefits drop off significantly...... If your intended use is to prioritize shots well past 600 yards then I could see the use for this optic but at that point you're better off looking at "recce" type optics. For everything 600 yards and in the 1-6 version is more than adequate!

    Great review. I have one and I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Sig. I also have a Vortex Razor 1-6 and it is definitely a much better optic but as you said it's also much more expensive. You are also correct that there is nothing one can do with the Razor that can't be done with the Sig. The biggest advantage to the Razor is the image quality is absolutely amazing and it's probably more durable. In the end, don't be a scope snob because the mid-priced scopes work just fine for the average hunter/shooter. As much as we would like to be most of us are not tier-one military special forces operators so relax and buy what you can afford.

    • @SabertoothDefenseSystems
      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  9 місяців тому +1

      Exactly! And yeah the Razor 1-6 has excellent glass, it’s truly a pleasure to look through! But exactly as a utility optic, this one has gone above and beyond for me. I’ve taken more animals since this video was released. Two more sheep using 10x at 100-114yds, and also a fox on the run at about 20 yards while quickly switching back to 1x. While better glass clarity is always appreciated, this optic will continue to be a work horse for me! The reality, and probably one of the most unpopular opinions, is that even through cheaper optics have become so feature rich and reliable that scope snobs are just looking for something about it to whine about. It’s a good problem to have in my opinion, being presented with so many different options with a variety of price points in mind!

      I hunt hogs here in Texas where I live. I use a self-built Mega Arms Maten in 308 with an 18-inch JP Super Match barrel. I have a Sig Tango 6 3-18x44 on that rifle. I have killed dozens and dozens of hogs with that setup using a hand-loaded 130-grain Barnes TTSX at 2,900 FPS. I have tried several other rifles and scopes but always come back to the AR-10/Tango 6 combo for hogs. The only other rifle I really use at all for hunting is a 6.5 Grendel AR-15 with a Primary Arms GLX 4-16.
      I have the Sig 1-10 MSR on a Christenson Arms Recon in 5.56 which I don't use for hunting because I don't like 5.56 for hunting due to its poor performance on game. My results have been very good so far. I have an 18-inch Rainier Arms Ultra Match barrel and shoot hand loaded 100-grain Barnes TTSX bullets running 2,800 FPS. I haven't shot nearly as many hogs with the Grendel as with the 308, but still several without issue. I also shot a huge 300-plus pound 31-inch Aoudad that I came across while hog hunting with the Grendel. It was at about 150 yards quartering away from me. I put the shot back from the shoulder angled for the front of the opposite shoulder. He squatted hard on impact and took off running, but not very well. He dropped dead about 75 yards from where he was shot. Aoudad are very tough and known for being difficult to bring down, but that little 100-grain 6.5 did the job. That pretty much solidified my trust in the Grendel on game at reasonable ranges. I think you will like the Grendel for hunting. I own this scope as well as the new PA 1-10x. They are both the same size and weight, both 34mm tubes and similar reticles. The PA blows this Sig scope away at roughly the same price. The PA is on my AR308 and the Sig sits in its box. This scope looks nice and seems like it's built right, but the one thing not many people who give these reviews talks about is the image quality of the glass BEYOND a 100 yds on 10x and is not very good. When you get out past 200 and beyond it gets worse. Because it doesn't have parallax adjustment you have to adjust the ocular eyepiece at the rear to get your target in focus and when you do that it messes with the clarity of the reticle. And for those who need reminding these SFP scopes have to be on 10x (or their highest magnification) in order for the bdc, windholds, and range estimations to work. The first Sig 1-10x I bought I ended up sending in to Sig and they admitted that the parallax was off and the focus wasn't working and sent me a replacement. The replacement was still having the same issues with the focus on targets at distance, that one was also sent back but was declared within specs and sent back to me. So be aware that these Sig scopes are not all they're cracked up to be especially if you intend to use them at distances beyond a couple hundred yards.

      @@racefan2267 It's the SLx SFP w/Raptor M10S reticle (model #610157). This reticle works PERFECT for the 308 I have it on while using 155's or 168's. It also works PERFECT for 223/556 using 69 or 75/77 gns. The glass is nicer without the loss of focus @ 10x that you get w/ the SIG. Overall the scope is hands down better and the reticle IMO is the best one they've come up with yet. Don't let the fact that it's SFP fool you into thinking it's not up to par. If I could afford it I would be putting this scope on a lot more of my AR's.

    The only thing that I see a problem with is that it’s a second focal plane reticle so the windage and elevation aren’t going to match as you zoom in and out. Check out the Primary Arms 1-10 LPVO in a first focal plane. For the same price you can get a more advanced reticle for $400. It has windage and elevation, has a holdover mark for someone or something running, and it has a ranging tool in the reticle that you can hold at the feet of an average size man and it will tell you how far they are. For the money it seems like Primary Arms optics far exceed their price point.

    It's weird how much more exspensive the 1-10msr is from the 1-6msr. Thank goodness I was able to check out the 1-10 next to the 1-6 before making a purchase. The 1x on the 1-6 is vastly superior to the 1x on the 10.... The 10x has a horrible eyebox compared to the 6 as well and the brightness on the 6 is brighter BUT this also could be a battery issue in the 10x. I'm sure it's been used alot in the shop I got to check it out in. I would maybe consider the 10 if it was ffp, then I could get behind the 500-650 price tag. For the 556 cartridge the 10x is overkill for being forced to use for all the holds to work.

      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I totally get it. I think people forget that you can still be very effective with Iron sights, so why not with a budget optic🤷🏻‍♂️2 years later and this scope is still solid. Sure there’s a big difference between glass of expensive optics and affordable ones like this, but is it NEEDED? For most cases it doesn’t matter. As an example there are people that have been hunting for YEARS with the same Winchester Model 70 with a Burris scope made back in the late 80’s and still taking game effectively. Point being: Know your equipment, it’s limitations and it’s strengths and use it accordingly! I’m all about utilitarianism. If the scope straight up sucks and is unusable, or even breaks right out of the box.. yeah I’ll let anyone know. But this hasn’t done it, and the features have served me very well! • @SabertoothDefenseSystems
      @SabertoothDefenseSystems  Рік тому +1

      Great question. The original plan was to make the video and explain the holds, but I’ve learned since then that they didn’t include that info on purpose. In actuality it wouldn’t matter because it’s entirely ammunition dependent. For example the holds worked with one type of ammo I had, but didn’t match up with other types of ammo. Best thing to do is load the reticle and ammunition data into a ballistic app. It will then give you approximate holds. The StrelokPro App is awesome for this and has hundreds of loads and reticles, including this one. So yeah, unfortunately that’s why the video wasn’t made.
