I'm 90 percent sure there is like a dozen anime/manga about a woman with superpowers happily playing the role of a suburban wife. Is this one of those leftist dystopias that sound like a conservative dream scenarios?
Out of the periods in America's history to pick from for fenale oppression, he chose the 50s. Why didn't DC get the Dodsons or Frank Cho to work on this book?
I can genuinely feel your frustration through this video lol, I stopped reading DC and Marvel about ten or so years ago as things started getting weird and came across this vid on my recommends, be well and watch your mental health guy.
I have had several older people at different times in my life tell me how happy they were in the 1950's . Didn't think about it until this video. All of those people were women.
I was scared to face this video but it was a very fair review!!! The only way he had any chance against Diana was by using the Lasso of Lies and narrating her to slee--:p I like how that dream world was painted so beautifully, but was such a nightmare to her (she was suffering behind that smile) and contradicts everything she was raised upon and believes in. She had no escape from his never ending brainwashing until her mom, whom I guess was part of her brain (such sweet panels🌺), reminded her of her origin in which the Greek gods helped make Diana and was ended up on a mission to save mankind. So from her world it was the daughter. I love that contrast. Diana's "mom" visiting her is by far my favorite moment.
The thing with people like that is you tell them, “There are actually plenty of strong and heroic women in the Bible, and there are also passages condemning mistreatment of women, so people who claim the Bible supports misogyny are twisting the scriptures,” they get angry with you and screech at you to shut up. No rebuttal, just ordering you to shut up. That’s because they don’t actually care about what they claim to care about; they just want to seem right about something and seem like they’re making some kind of brave stand when they’re really not. It reminds me of the guy who came to a dinner at our church and told a debunked urban legend. I told him it had been debunked, thinking he would be relieved, and instead he was angry. He was a visitor and not a regular, so from what I gathered he recounted this fake story to try to seem like he was some wise and good person calling out bad behavior, and me calling him out (which I didn’t intend to do; I was just trying to be helpful and reassuring) in front of other people put the kibosh on that. I later saw the guy yelling at his own wife & children and ordering around someone who may have been his mother. Charming. :-/

Wasn’t there a Batman quote from one of the more recent comics where Batman says that diana is 2 pull ups away from being an unstoppable force of nature that only clark could feasibly stop Or another where he or someone else would have to psychologically manipulate diana into fighting to exhaustion The whole psychological warfare bit could have worked better because someone else already had it as one of Bruce’s contingency plans It was already established by the second method manipulation could work diana is a walking nuclear weapon that can rearm itself for back to back catastrophes so mental manipulation would be the best way to subdue the amazon if she is on the level of someone like Clark so this could have worked with a better writer
I dropped this book after issue 2. Tom King portrayal of Wonder Woman is awful. She is arrogant and condescending to every man. I'm pretty sure that King mocked of Christianity just to make unnecessary polemic. This guy sucks in every level.
The problem with this issue is that the mystique of the Sovereign or Chauvinist was spoiled once Diana broke the lasso of lies and made him look like Bobby the weasel Henan.
You won't learn about WW but we do learn about Tom King in this therapy session. I learned that Tom King wants a wife who stays at home but doesn't have one. He probably get's put down all the time, doesn't have a back bone so he just takes it till the rage builds up and he writes a comic about a women being smacked around.
Ignoring the fact that the country was overwhelmingly white, and similarly it probably wouldn't have been great to be white in a black country, back then black families were at the very least not broken up and prone to crime to the absolutely ridiculous levels that they are today. Black children have awful odds today when ~70% are born to single mothers and so frequently led through a pipeline of criminality.
daniel Sampere is the art that keeps this kinda in a space where people are checking for it and you do feel tom is arranging you to feel a way after you close this book.,
Tom King's INCOMPETENCE has already turned former 'Wonder Woman' fans into [insert shojo manga, Japanese comics for girls] fans. If DC Comics doesn't fire him and then hire a COMPETENT writer, then within five years, no one will remember the Gal Gadot movie is an adaptation of a comic book.
Didn't someone once say: "If you want to know who has the power, think of those you can't critcize (sic)" Om King rags on about how bad Christianity and patriarchy, like he has zero to fear from either despite treating them as an omnipresent threat. Curious. 🤔
The problem in the mainstream industry is not just bad storytelling and/or art but being non-profit. I'd like to see the creators for DC or Marvel writing a contract before doing anything that mandates them in 2 issues for a tittle to make a profit. If not... they're fired and will have a 10-year-ban to work for them with every failed try.
Do you wanna know what I took from this issue of wonder woman, that I actually enjoyed is when she finally confront this old codger that supposed to hold a lasso called the lasso of lies. Yet wonder woman actually breaks this thing and I saying to myself recalling something from like Thor would say to Loki that “I’ve dealt with lies before a sir and you are no prince of lies!” I just pray that we actually get a better writer to make Wonder Woman relevant in the future instead of having Tom King on this book.
I do like Tom King in that he is showing how powerful Wonder Woman has become. However it seems they forgot about Emelie and he might make the mistake of having Wonder Woman job for a villian.
10:22 true, he’s lie general immortus but without the experience and willingness to get his hands dirty. If it wasn’t for that lasso someone with steel toed boots and a decent kick could stop him 1 on 1.
Tom King is also the pos who gets off on "breaking down the mythos" of characters. I use to hate Morrison for Batman RIP but i think compared to King is he a miracle worker. Tom King legit had Bruce Wayne doubting if Batman was right. Bought his way onto a jury and got freeze pardoned. Only for him to have been right in the first place. What a fraud pos. How do you become a DC writer? Ive thought of better arcs on the commode.
Wes, you are doing the lord's work by reading Tom King's excrement. I gave up on him years ago. This is the type of comic which dramatises why manga completely outsells the North American comic book industry year after year. A manga series like Golden Kamuy delivers high octane action adventure stories in every single volume. It never disappoints.
😆 Tom King said before the start of Wonder Woman run, he was going to use some stories from out of print and in the Public Domain stories during an interview on ComicPop. I laughed too hard. 😆
Oh, the WORST thing a woman can be is a loving & supportive wife and the villain is quoting the Bible? Tom King is really treading fresh, untouched territory here isn't he? It's not like that has been the majority of successful mainstream entertainment for the last forty years. And the Indies aren't much better. It would be nice for someone to go against the grain, but there isn't any audience for that anyway. No matter what anyone claims. Maybe in a thousand years, IF civilization restarts, they will make something better.
Imo TK is nothing but poison to whatever character he writes and only does harm More than this, hes a terrible repetitive writer ino who saves me money because i dont buy from any company that employs him for any book
Not a conservative and a religious skeptic (I feel atheist leads to certain tropes) however I love aspects of the 1950's (scifi cinema, film noir, art decor, and of course the lovely women of the era). That being said there were issues at the time like the red scare and the social issues at the time. Nothing is ever black or white with every decade having flaws. While I have plenty of issues of strong Christian overtones and forced family values (many families have internal issues that are not shared), I realize it is not the cause of all the problems of the world. If Tom King (and others of his current year kind) looked in the mirror, he would realize he has become Fredric Wertham (the author of Seduction of the Innocent).
The Tom King fans drive me nuts. They all act like hes the greatest writer thats ever happened to comics. I wonder if theyve ever actually read any comics published before 2010. I also think the religious element went too far.
The good things about this comic are Diana living in a dream world where she and Steve Trevor are married and living a domestic life together while being interrogated and monologued by the Sovereign, the Wonder Girls torturing Sergeant Steel by throwing an arrow at him while being blindfolded, and Diana being freed from the Lasso of Lies with her mother’s help and advice and planning to defeat the Sovereign. For the Supersons backup, it’s hilarious that Lizzie’s attempts at time travel caused many ripple effects and costume changes throughout Jon and Damian. Also, Lizzie calling herself Wonder Girl after Diana (in the pre-Crisis continuity), Donna, Cassie, and Yara.
Not feeling anything for this run or version of WW. As you pointed out, she was going to find the Amazon in question, but that was over half a year ago. It reminds me of how she was protecting a baby for about 5 years with her new 52. These writers do not paint her as the most effective hero. Supes and Bats never take so long to protect a baby or find someone. And reading the last issue is painful.
The thing that gets up my craw about this is that we arent saying tha villains shouldn't say crappy shit. To me it's decompressed stroytelling forcing us to soak in these moments issues at a time. Let's say we have a compressed story, the dude can still say everything he does in this issue but he'ld get immediate karma that issue or the next proving he was full of crock. But in decompressed stories, the villains are allowed to make their points with near no contest for issues on end only for the hero to "win" in the finale of the arc....rather than prove the villain wrong, it feels like its the villain who knows how things truly are. And that's what personally pisses me off. Also writers have lost the right/priviledge of readers taking their stories in good faith. Before we would shrug and go this was distasteful and coulfmd be done better, now we're wondering just how many insults the writer has imbedded in the story to particular parts of the audience.
You’d think that, eventually, a one trick pony like Tom King would try to prove the critics wrong. But first he’d have to admit they might have a point, and that ain’t going to happen.
You got to the point wayyy too slow 2:57, I clicked to see how Tom King f*cked up Another Comic character. The Thumbnail made it look like Steve Trevor was in this, so I wanted to know what was going wrong again. And yes I normally love Steve Trevor...🙄 I agree it should have been someone else. So much b*llshit.
if you pay attention to his writing, female character written by Tom King always talk condescendingly towards the male character; either it's Selina Kyle on Batman/Catwoman, Adam Strange's wife on Strange Adventure, or Wonder Woman now (especially on the last issue, where she have a 'date' with Superman); King really think he's THAT "smart", huh?

I'm just asking to not have my religion (or lack thereof) mocked and belittled.
I wonder how it's going in the parallel universe where Tom King never got into comics. I bet it's great.
They really don't know what to do with Wonder Woman. They need to give her more stories like Batman: Universe. That story was so fun!
I'm 90 percent sure there is like a dozen anime/manga about a woman with superpowers happily playing the role of a suburban wife.
Is this one of those leftist dystopias that sound like a conservative dream scenarios?
Android 18 from dragon Ball is a perfect example of this
Out of the periods in America's history to pick from for fenale oppression, he chose the 50s. Why didn't DC get the Dodsons or Frank Cho to work on this book?
Well if you’re going to bring logic into it.
I can genuinely feel your frustration through this video lol, I stopped reading DC and Marvel about ten or so years ago as things started getting weird and came across this vid on my recommends, be well and watch your mental health guy.
Awesome work mate
I have had several older people at different times in my life tell me how happy they were in the 1950's . Didn't think about it until this video. All of those people were women.
Does Jim Lee have any idea about whats going on at DC? Is he a sleep?
He's running DC like he did Wildstorm.
No, he's a sheep.
Bring back the 1950's.
The loss of social media alone is worth it.
I'm sorry but decrying religion as evil yet only laser focusing on christianity only makes you a hypocrite, ball-less or both.
Once again. Tom King puts his mommy-wfie issues front and center for everyone to see. I swear to god, he needs a better psychiatrist.
I was scared to face this video but it was a very fair review!!!
The only way he had any chance against Diana was by using the Lasso of Lies and narrating her to slee--:p I like how that dream world
was painted so beautifully, but was such a nightmare to her (she was suffering behind that smile) and contradicts everything she was raised upon and believes in.
Charming. :-/
Superman comics have been good lately. I agree Wes, I really want Tom King to go to Hollywood
Or anywhere not near comics.
Not even the best comic book writers managed to make the leap to Hollywood. Most people in that place think comic book writers are dumb.
@@kevintanza6968most of them are dumb but Hollywood isn’t exempt from that criticism either
TK is playing that game to stay in that game, but why would even want to play that game? Virtue signaling to avoid the cancel pigs. He doesn't have diverse points. So all he has is the status of an ally.
Last wonder women Comic book story I've read that was good was Daniel Warren Johnsons elseworld mini series few years back
The new 52 run is Good
Oh no, the 1950s!
When women didn't have the freedom of having to work at Carl's Jr. just to help her husband pay basic bills.
Wasn’t there a Batman quote from one of the more recent comics where Batman says that diana is 2 pull ups away from being an unstoppable force of nature that only clark could feasibly stop
Or another where he or someone else would have to psychologically manipulate diana into fighting to exhaustion
The whole psychological warfare bit could have worked better because someone else already had it as one of Bruce’s contingency plans
It was already established by the second method manipulation could work
diana is a walking nuclear weapon that can rearm itself for back to back catastrophes so mental manipulation would be the best way to subdue the amazon if she is on the level of someone like Clark so this could have worked with a better writer
Please don't bring the legendary Bobby "The Brain" Heenan into this Tom King garbage.
I’m REALLY cool with NOT going back to the 1940s and 50s,thank you very much. It was FAR from a “Golden Age” for all Americans.
It's weird because they way he showed her relationship with Superman last chapter was fantastic.
Original. golden age WW became a housewife so it can happen to each and every other version of her too.
Si pero eso no fue por el código de cómic, que personajes femeninos tenía límites por eso catwoman desapareció por un tiempo
I feel bad for Daniel for having to be on a dumb book . Also, As a black guy I wouldn't say the 40's and 50s are the best time lol
You mean it wasn’t an adaptation of a tv show?
Didn't someone once say: "If you want to know who has the power, think of those you can't critcize (sic)"
Om King rags on about how bad Christianity and patriarchy, like he has zero to fear from either despite treating them as an omnipresent threat. Curious. 🤔
Dc doesn’t deserve WW! Perhaps the Marston family should take the character to another comic company!
They never write the character right in fact after Marston death.
@EvandroACruz What about George Pérez and Gail Simone?
@@duncanharrell5009 It's very different take of your creator. I don't like the warrior take in WW.
Why is Tom King still writing anything?🤦♂
DC keeps paying him.
I’m sure his “anti-patriarchy” movement will save us all as he assists James Gunn with the new Superman movie…we’re screwed
James Gunn said he's gonna be an architect of the entire DCU 💀💀
@@bznng-he3rm I take it back…we’re beyond screwed. lol
So the villain is the patriarchy??
nah, i think its the hero the
World needs.
Yet wonder woman actually breaks this thing and I saying to myself recalling something from like Thor would say to Loki that “I’ve dealt with lies before a sir and you are no prince of lies!”
I just pray that we actually get a better writer to make Wonder Woman relevant in the future instead of having Tom King on this book.
I do like Tom King in that he is showing how powerful Wonder Woman has become. However it seems they forgot about Emelie and he might make the mistake of having Wonder Woman job for a villian.
Well Tom King must have worked in the Torture department of the CIA. Because damn Wes I feel sorry you had to go through that without Dok.
Ive thought of better arcs on the commode.
most men in that time werent like that. and women werent submissive little weaklings. this is insulting to people of that generation.
It stopped being 2012-2014. They need to grow up or go Bankrupt.
This King needs to be deposed, French revolution style.
Isn't that a little severe
killing babies is extreme, and the left does that
Imo TK is nothing but poison to whatever character he writes and only does harm
More than this, hes a terrible repetitive writer ino who saves me money because i dont buy from any company that employs him for any book
Tom King is the worst comic writer in the history of the medium
Alongside Bendis.
And Jason Aaron plus Tom Taylor.
Bendis wins. Because he’s the one who started this trend of letting hack “not-comicbook-writers” write super-hero comics.
Based on your review I can easily predict that the soy lattes who host the iFanboy podcast will call it the best single issue of 2024
Not a conservative and a religious skeptic (I feel atheist leads to certain tropes) however I love aspects of the 1950's (scifi cinema, film noir, art decor, and of course the lovely women of the era).
I know I'm 2 months late but you sir are one based stud.🙂I wish you good luck in life and God bless your soul..!
I've reached the point when I read or hear Tom King's name that I involuntarily roll my eyes.
Wes is starting to look like Tom King is coming over to his house and waterboarding him.
Pretty sure he googled that Bible verse without studying it in context. My condolences you have to read through the whole thing.
Tom King is damaged. Badly. That's all I can figure after years of seeing him pump out this absolute garbage.
I havent watched this yet and i know i agree with it
What else is new? I do appreciate him showing us how terrible the Diana & Steve relationship is and highlighting why it's a waste of time.
Yea it’s the 1950’s stuff that annoys me, not the bible verse, if he admits he doesn’t believe then it’s not an issue.
Wait… wasn’t this essentially the plot of “Don’t Worry Baby”?
But first he’d have to admit they might have a point, and that ain’t going to happen.
my issue with tom king is all the ellipsis he uses in every sentence
