Recipe
Manhattan
2oz (60ml) Rye Whiskey
1oz (30ml) Sweet Vermouth
4 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Manhattans are the drink that taught me to use good vermouth and good cherries. It makes a huge difference!
Leondros vendetta against Bourbon Manhattan drinkers is legendary
😂
The Manhattan
2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth
4 dashes Angostura bitters
Cocktail cherry
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, then stir with ice cubes and a large cracked ice cube. Then pour into a Nick and Nora, coupe, or cocktail glass. Serve with a cocktail cherry.
Or two dashes if you're not using a Japanese bitters dasher
@@petermcguire4769 I personally prefer 3-4 dashes (6-8 with japanese). From my understanding, there are more dashes in west compared to east (japan)
Why the cracked cube?
@@antonnebroussard smaller cubes dissolve and chill faster. the small pieces shall fill the holes between the larger ones for maximum chill effect. it's rather gimmicky and only has a very small effect.
I love how simple, yet complex LD makes cocktails. I learned a lot from you brotha. Keep up the amazing content. Cheers 🥂
If I’m not drinking whiskey neat, it’s usually a Manhattan. Simple, and really easy to change up. Change the bitter, whiskey, or vermouth and modify the taste.
I never drink whiskey neat, whiskey tends to be smoother and more enjoyable when it's cold.
I love a Manhattan. My friend once told me about his FIL made a great Manhattan. He told him that as he got older, his Manhattan got better, as he started going heavier on the Rye and weaker on the Vermouth. I don't have the ratio down yet, but I can say I agree with him. Even good vermouth can be a tad overpowering sometimes. I like my cocktails boozy though.
Oh yeah boozy, lol
I like some extra bitters, but I always thought the recipe matched the area code 212. 2 dashes, 1oz vermouth, 2oz rye.
It does; he just used a Japanese dasher bottle which puts out about half that of a traditional dasher.
My favorite variation is a Nocino Manhattan. So good!
I love a Manhattan, but they can be so sweet sometimes.
That’s cuz people make them with bourbon if ya use rye it’s never too sweet :)
Chocolate Cherry Manhattan
2 oz rye (I like Old Forester, good pick!)
3-4 dashes chocolate bitters
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 barspoon maraschino liqueur
Made this on a whim last night and it turned out excellent!
This sounds delicious...and I have a bottle of Old Forester Rye and Luxardo. I'm suddenly thirsty.
Just joined your discord. Great group! Thanks for the drink sir!🍹
My favourite cocktail but I always have not 1 not 2 but 3 Luxardo cherries straight in the drink. Am I wrong 😂
My #1 favorite cocktail. I don't want to see a bottle of bourbon even in the countertop when making mine. 😁
Cocchi vermouth and overproof rye. Delish!!
Got my mouth watering right now
My friend makes a great Manhattan that everyone loves. His secret is a little Southern Comfort. Not a classic Manhattan but it’s the best I’ve had.
I found the Vieux Carre tastes remarkably like Southern Comfort
I love the Manhattan and I make it the way that you make this cocktail but I have had some over a large clear block of ice on some establishments. I pour mine into a Nick and Nora glass.
I always thought it was developed during the breaks for the Manhattan project
When I go to a bar I usually order old fashioned, whiskey sour or Manhattan these are my favorite drinks
I’m trying to quit drinking. Watching this is making me reconsider.
Such a good drink :)
Thanks
Does anyone know why after adding normal cubed ice do you then crack a larger cube and add to the mixing glass? What does that add? Thanks!
It chills the drink without too much dilution. It actually makes a noticeable difference in drinks served without ice
You should compile a list of the essential cocktails to know. Top ten, twenty-five, fifty etc.
If this has been done by you or someone you endorse I'd love to see a link.
He made a top 50 list of every cocktail you should know how to make a while back.
Here’s a link to the 50 cocktails video cheers! ua-cam.com/video/AWnIqpsfyPU/v-deo.html
@@TheEducatedBarfly thank you.
Gramps taught me to stir a Manhattan with you pinky. Rest in peace Grandpa.
That's so pimp
How Bout A Chilled Coupe 🥱
Always chill the coupe for service but for tutorials I think it’s important for beginners to see what the finished product should look like
Ah the classic 412, Japanese Manhattan
I see what you did there! 😂 🤣 😂
Is it sacrilege to make one with bourbon?
The king of cocktails. But I prefer bourbon 9/10 of the time. If I want rye, I usually go for a Brooklyn or a Little Italy.
I used to love these, but they are a little too sweet for me these days. I prefer the dry Martini
Is that Luxardo Cherry?
I’m with you on putting the cherry in the drink! It does look better on a pick, but the cherry in the drink adds another level of sweetness and it is delicious eating it after it has been soaked in the alcohol
Any fans of the Blak Manhattan? What amaro do you make it with?
My bosse is telling me it sposta be pink??
Ah, but a Black Manhattan!
Why do we crack the ice cube?
Because stirring is a very inefficient way to chill and dilute so by cracking the cube into smaller bits you speed the dilution of the drink a bit
Why do you have to Crack it?
the ice? to jump start dilution
made this with martini white sweet vermouth and didn't enjoy it at all
Up or neat????????????????
That shit looks fuckin nasty dude
