Switching to a basketball shoe from a running shoe was the best thing for me. It gave me a lot more confidence in my ability to make quick movements wearing something with the added ankle support and thats designed to prevent ankle rolling which is something I’m super prone to
Running shoes are actually garbage. It promotes unhealthy way of walking and overall movement. Hence why I am here. I could just continue being barefoot to be fair, but when you wear the right shoes, your confidence manifests accordingly.
@@aldev3705 I just had bought 200$ asics running shoe at the time of this post. I went to decathlon (a sport store in canada) and bought a cheap 30$ basketball shoe just to try if i liked the way they support your feet. Its definitly better and im confused why I was never recommanded that before. Ill still need to buy a better made shoe (30$ is too cheap with my kind of feet problems, the shoe weigh being 90% of the problem). Yea give it a try it's definitly a design that prevent wet noodle ankle.

The most important factor in boxing equipment is as always how serious you are. I heard from the more serious guys that they like to wear the same shoe all the time so they have 2 pairs of the same boxing shoe, one for the ring and one for everything else so that they dont feel thrown off by the different feel of the shoe.
Been in martial arts for years (Karate Kyokushin) and more recently, I've started Boxing since late Spring and at first, I've started using my Basketball shoes which was okay, I did move a bit slower, but since changing up with a decent pair of Wrestling shoes, my foot work speed improved better than before in general, even while doing Karate. Excellent video and will keep it mind. Thank you!!
i feel like the cons of the running shoes completely outweigh the pros. Seeing you make the pivots just sent my mind to rolled ankles aha. Thank you for the info and examples of you doing bag work in them. really helpful!
@@fabioooh you can do roadwork in any shoe that fits yours feet. The roadwork you do for boxing is different from the the miles you put training for, let's say, a marathon. You would be looking for different things. You can Def run in basketball shoes but wouldn't recommend it
I noticed if you arent training in the ring, there is no need for boxing shoes. So I wear my Kyrie 5 or my Kobe 9s. I recommend either one. Both are amazing at cushioning and support. Kobes were designed after Manny Pacquiao since Kobe was actually a huge fan. And the Kyries have the best, by far, pivoting and quick movement action. So if you are just doing a power workout, I do recommend kobe 9, and if you are working on movement and quickness, I recommend actually any of the Kyries.
I don't practice boxing but I think a futsal pair of boots should be a great option. It combines the comfort in the sole of the foot required in soccer and the flat surface from playing it on firm floor, which can simulate a flat boxing boot. It could be a fusion between a running shoe and a boxing boot
i’ve been sparring with no shoes since i started - but i’ve been getting blisters so i think im gonna get boxing shoes to spar in - i train with running shoes but because of this video, i might switch to basketball shoes !
I train barefoot because i train at home and the floor is slippery and the shoes make me slip when i want to throw a hard shot , the only problem i have is when i throw a right hand and twist my r foot then bring it back from twisting my stance get wider , every time i rotate my back leg i cant bring it back to the normal position without getting wide .
Wow, thanks for the review boss! I do the same with basketball 🏀 boots 🥾. I use them for road work as well for more support on my ankles. I mainly only use boxing boots for sparring! Great channel! Thanks 😊!
Look at tennis/badminton/volleyball shoes too. My gym has been doing a lot of training outside, asphalt at the park, basketball courts, etc. Lots of people wear court shoes.
Using Venum boxing shoes in my opinion I personally prefer boxing shoes when training because their light. But running shoes are no different. Also they can run whenever instead of taking off the boxing shoe.
My workouts involve hitting the bag, jumping on a box, running, then jumping in the ring for 3 mins. Circuit training so trying to find best all round shoe
I’ve been wearing running shoes but I’ve been feeling like the tread hasn’t been ideal for pivoting. I have some basketball shoes with a more flat bottom so I will give that a try!
I just heard about folks using wrestling shoes, so I guess that's another option. I typically go barefooted as muay thai are barefooted. It just sucks when you're on concrete or grass.
I just started to learn boxing in my running shoes are actually starting to bend inward so that I have a little support on the outside. I’m thinking about going to basketball shoes
I've just bought a Hayabusa pro boxing shoes, but its balance was not as good as i expected (well, actually I think my Converse Allstar is even better, lol). after all, the Hayabusa was replaced by Everlast Elite High Top.
I Shadow Box On A Tennis Court With Under Armour UA Havoc mid top They Have Excellent Grip but You have to break them In they fit firmly on your feet but nice Cushion cost me $48 .
It is good seeing someone talking about the lack of ankle support on boxing shoes. I broke my ankle 5 months ago after falling during sparring. I was wearing Nike Machomai 2. Do you have any suggestions on a boxing boot with better ankle support?
I had to train in a martial arts gym barefeet for a boxing match..on a padded mat. I got bad blisters on my feet from the pivoting within a few days. Will never do that again
I like barefoot partly because I started learning how to box in an MMA gym wear that was the norm and partly because I'm still trying to strengthen my ankles and I feel like my ankles wear out slower when barefoot
Good video with great logic. I just bought a premium Adidas Tech Fall 2 wrestling shoe. I upgraded from a Nike running shoe. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Chuck Taylor’s (the high tops) are a very good choice for lifting but the traction on the bottom might not be good depending on your training surface, the suede makes slippery surfaces deadly- I’ve almost accidentally done the splits the most times from the grip on converse shoes
Futsal shoes or paddle shoes are pretty good for boxing, otherwise fitness/training shoes. Never use running shoes or weightlifting shoes for boxing! Need to try some basketball shoes next…
Dang, I wish I had seen this video before! I bought a cheap boxing pair thinking it would have helped with training and they are destroying my feet outside of the ring. Also thought they had better ankle support. It turns out they are built for a very specific usage.
Please don’t use running shoes for boxing. Runners are meant for front/back movement . Runners are NOT meant for lateral movements and pivoting. You will roll your ankles and they are too high off the ground also increasing the ankle roll. Best bet is boxing, wrestling or training shoe
What about volleyball shoes? I feel like they are pretty similar to boxing shoes but just a little bit heavier and more durable…excellent for training outside the ring
Thanks for the video. I currently use Lonsdale boxing shoes. But I've got mild knee pain when I box, so I may now try some basketball shoes. Like some Kevin Durants.
Thinking about getting some boxing shoes but right now I’m looking at some high top skate shoes since it’s more affordable and they have a flat sole with protection around the ankle as well Was wondering if this would be fine for a boxing shoe?
Bro, I keep rolling my ankle. Got some no name wrestling shoes from acadamy and i havent worn them yet bc they ygly af. I am using running shoes. I need some major ankle support

*I have very thick ankles and calves (26inch calves and thick from ankle to calf).* Any recommendations? I’ve been looking at converse high tops, but I’ve never worn them. I usually wear vans and leather business shoes.
I use futsal shoes (indoor soccer for americans) and so far it works flawlessly i might got for basketball since they are more durable that boxing boots and we mostly train on concrete i dont feel like spending 80€ on a shoe that wil be destroyed after 3 months
