    So....what's the need for designer fad new steels. Are any of them SIGNIFCANTLY better than any other designer fad steels. Probably not just personal preference. For 90% of your daily knife carrying, hunting, cutlery needs CPM S30V or even 1095 will more then meet your needs. Most all people around the world and I would bet most Americans get along fine without the designer fad steels. Maybe it's just the UA-cam "aficionados" who can't wait for the next fad steel to come out.

    Hey, would you like to team up and make some super high-end blades? We all need better American made blades. I don’t have equipment to get started anytime soon. Could I come work in your shop and share cool ideas and make fun UA-cam videos? I need to make some money because my wife is pregnant. I’d rather make amazing knives for a living than anything else. I could be like you apprentice and also share ideas that’ll inspire you too. What do you say?

      The truth is the Vanex is the more rare find here. In two or three years everybody will have a Magnacut blade. Because I do the small batches I do I’m able to be nimble and get the steals out there a little quicker. All that to say, get the vanax, And then get a folding knife in Magnacut when they’re available.

    Hi. I have a piece of the same approach than you, and I like 3V, 14C28N (price compared with LC200N...), Cruwear, Magnacut and Vanax. On your graphs, CPM 3V have much better corrosion resistance than CPM Cruwear. Thats true? Why?

    • @Creelyblades
      @Creelyblades  Рік тому +1

      One of the tricky things with 3V, and cruwear is that there are two different heat treating protocols and one of them significantly changes the corrosion resistance of the steel. 3V would have a little better than cruwear, but maybe on the chart the cruwear is rated at the other heat treating protocol.

    • @Creelyblades
      @Creelyblades  Рік тому +1

      Several of the steels I do have salt water testing data for, and others are inferred based on their elemental makeup as compared to the tested ones. There are really only about 4 categories of corrosion resistance as I see it. Not stainless at all (aka- 1095, 52100, A2) Semi-Stainless (3V, D2, ) Standard Stainless (S35VN, 154CM, 440C, S90V), and extremely stainless (LC200N, Vanax,) Additionally, even with testing corrosion resistance can be tough to pin down, for instance, some steels do well in salt but not acids, others do well in acids but not salt. I stand by the ratings on the corrosion resistance chart as a good guide for a particular use case.

      I’m not exactly sure what your criticism is here? When you say broad tang I assume you mean full tang. I don’t think that water jet cutting was being presented as a benefit, simply an explanation of how and why it’s made the way it is. In terms of its benefit to the end-user it allows the knife to be more affordable because of a more efficient process.

      @@brandonnelson4164 No doubt that efficiency is part of the equation, but there is a bit of a benefit. If I use removable scales and sand the steel and scales flush so they are perfect, and then you remove those scales it is virtually impossible to get them back on perfectly again. There is always a sharp lip somewhere. Making the a little proud and tumbling makes it a lot easier to take the scales on and off and swap them between different blades.
