    I have tried several elastic thread brands for shirring and I agree Mettler is the best. Best longevity and best strength

      Bad quality thread is one of the most common issues with this technique. Using good thread is such a game-changer!

    This is PERFECT! Thank you very much!
    EDIT: I've finally tried it out. IT JUST WORKS!!!! Simple and effective, I love it.
    One thing to note: the elastic thread _has_ to go the whole length. Having a breaking issue during sewing is out of the question for shirring.
    I know I'm likely doing something wrong, but I've often had my threads break during sewing. It happened once when I tried shirring a fabric, and it utterly broke the effect (luckily it was just a bottom line, lol).
    So bear that in mind if you want shirred clothes: you've got to learn not to break any threads!

    Great tutorial! I keep watching and thinking that your fabric is going to fray apart at the edges, but you seem so comfortable with it, that I might just get up the nerve to try satin at some point.

    When sewing with the elastic thread, do I need to adjust the upper tension at all? I've been wanting to try shirring for ages.... this video is giving me the confidence to go for it! :-)

      Glad you enjoyed the tutorial!🤗 I’m wearing a dress made using Burda Style pattern from their 04/19 magazine, pattern number 120 - one of my favourite dresses ever! I modified the pattern by adding elastic waist using the shirring method I used in this technique🤗

  • @nancypankhurst-sterling9261

    I have a BabyLock Ovation serger. I'm trying to shirr my fabric but my elastic keeps breaking. It sews about 2-3 inches then breaks. I've tried adjusting the tension on my chain stitch but it still breaks. Any suggestions on how to avoid this? I do have to say, though, the 2-3 inches it does sew looks fantastic.

      Are you using elastic thread only in the bobbin? The top thread should remain all-purpose sewing thread. If machine is threaded correctly, I would try switching to different elastic thread - the only time I had similar situation, it was faulty elastic thread and once I switched to different brand, it turned out perfect

    Hi! Would you please list the Mettler elastic thread item number? I bought one off Amazon but they delivered a polyester thread that has some elasticity. I’m not sure if it’s the same

    Love the video, but it didn't work out, it didn't take the elastic. I dont know if the needle is to short or it just doesn't work with my maschine.. any tips?

    • @Julija_Gobere
      @Julija_Gobere  5 місяців тому

      Interesting! One advice would be to pull out the elastic thread to surface before sewing, as sometimes it can be a challenge for machine to pull the thread out by itself. Also, check if the bobbin thread is correctly inserted - sometimes the elastic likes to ‘jump out’ from it’s position and does not go into seam properly. Hope these tips help!

    This tutorial is great! However I have a problem with making my first shirring. I set everything as said in the video. Straight stitch on 4.5 mm (the highest on my machine), elastic thread in the bobbin (loosely winded by hand) and normal thread on top. And nothing happens :( It just sews a straight stich, no shirring. What am I doing wrong? I tried different types of fabric and still nothing. I also tried to low down the thread tension as I thought it may be to high. Any suggestions?

    • @Julija_Gobere
      @Julija_Gobere  7 місяців тому +1

      Interesting🤔 What elastic thread you’re using? I only had issue once with this technique and the issue was thread - when I changed the thread, everything instantly resolved🙌 I now use only Mettler Elastic, as it gives best results for me🤗 I suggest trying a different thread, but if that doesn’t work - send me a picture of a seam on Instagram DM and I’ll try to help solve it from pic🤗

      @@Julija_Gobere actually I dont know the brand. I have them in my stash for a while. I thought that it may be the problem, I'll try to get some other threads and we'll See :)

    It doesn't work for me, it looks like a normal seam from above and doesn't pull together, I've tried a few things with the thread tension but nothing changes, what should I do

    • @Julija_Gobere
      @Julija_Gobere  3 місяці тому

      One extra step might be adjusting bobbin tension - I personally haven’t used this, but I’ve heard from other sewists that it does help with shirring!
