Absolutely, changing the rules just before a debate to suit the Labour Party. Unfortunately, this might hinder Labour in GE. I'm in Scotland and have seen this too often. Labour and Tories joining together just to stick it to the SNP. Imo whether you like them or loathe them, they are the only opposition to the Tories. I despise the tories as well, but at least you know what they stand for. I don't know what Labour stand for.

Its a cynical abuse of parliamentary time to play party politics with such a dreadful situation. Even if it was a clever play. And as Chris Bryant later pointed out in relation to the debate on 13 May 1999, there is precedent for the speaker allowing a main opposition party to amend a minor opposition party motion, in circumstances where the minor party are using their time to attack the main opposition party (their biggest rival for votes at the next election), instead of to hold the government to account. The Tories in opposition were happy to amend a Lib Dem motion trying the same ploy that the SNP just tried against Labour. Their anger today is just a confected performance.

    Shameful.

Mr. Hoyle should be well and truly ashamed that his bad behaviour took the spotlight while so many in Gaza suffer. Anyone going along with Mr. Hoyle on this for any reason should also be ashamed of themselves. There are human beings we should consider to help, not this childish, self-motivated and unprofessional behaviour.

The epitome of hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy in plain sight.
Embracing democracy means embracing its fundamental principles - human rights, freedom, transparency, and justice - fostering a shared humanity for peace and harmony. Yet, the stark absence of these principles in the face of relentless tragedy in Gaza underscores a significant failure in Western democracy......

What the Speaker admitted today is that he puts his duty of physical care toward MPs above what should be his absolute duty to not allow interference with the democratic process in the Commons...So if the Police tell the Speaker there are genuine threats if an MP votes a certain way then the Speaker should compromise his role?....Horrendous.Allow the screaming extremists to do this to our age-old Democracy?

If you were in any doubt as to how much our country has declined in recent years , then you only need to take a look at the proceedings that have taken place in the HoC during the last decade or so, to get a clear idea! 😢
