Project 750Li Part 1: Engine Removal
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 лип 2024
- This beautiful 2011 BMW 750Li has only 82,000km, a BMW individual interior and all the options. The only issue is that the car does not run. What started as a small misfire eventually turned into the car no longer being able to start for more than a few seconds.
The previous owner was quoted over 11,000$ for an engine replacement at the dealer which is when he decided to sell it. I picked the car up for very cheap and diagnosed it with bad timing chains, a common issue on the N63 engine.
In Part 1, the engine, transmission and subframe get removed from the vehicle.

He definitly aprove. 😁
@@Lordosvk Naaah! No torque values provided for the bolts
@@surenot1 only needed on reassembly!
100%
😂 was trying to figure out where did the "coooming up" go...
No obnoxious music, no unnecessary acting. Straight to the point and beautifully explained.
Keep up the good work. I have subscribed to your channel.
I hope other videos will have the same standards.👏
This channel is going to get very popular very quickly with details like this. Brilliant content.
This is how you build a successful car channel. 👍
Much respect to you from a new bmw mechanic
Amazing. You probably need to do a video on your garage setup, too!
most professional and detailed video I’ve ever seen on N63 engine removal ! thank you and can't wait for the other parts .
Very nice editting and very detailed steps. Great to see bolt/nut specs.
Keep these videos coming! Would love to see similar video on N52 F10 528i :)
I have a similar car with the same engine, only with your video i was able to identify the car contents plz do keep it up
Bro you deserve every single subscription, you make me feel like I can pull this engine out all by myself .😅
You can do it!
Wow! Incredible to say the least. If this were a diy course, I'd be willing to buy these videos for hundreds of dollars. Beautiful work!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos. No charge for these, I just like to try and help people to fix their own stuff
what a careful, punctilious, and meticulous job,
Thanks for Sharing.
Awesome video.
We all really appreciate all the time you invested in the editing
This kind of content with graphic description of bolt & nut sizes & part description is what I like to watch. Instead of the others that describe their builds as always EPIC or always saying “check this out” or too much talking.
You are really a Doctor.
Good job bud!
I’m speechless… the quality and details in this video is out of this world.
Brilliant detailed video. Loving the graphic overlay and fastening information. Really excellent 👍🏻
Also glad that you’ve avoided putting banging music over it 😉🙏
26:27 Nice catch
Man, this is very high quality for a first video. Congrats, you've got my subscription right away. Will love to see many more.
Hello and greetings from Kanab Utah. Your presentation is outstanding. Your attention to detail and the use of graphic overlay with description of the parts is very professional. Your channel is setting a very high standard. Congratulations! Respectfully, Utah Mike. 🤩👍
From iraq . Bmw lover
The amount of bolts and nuts, connections, cables, screws, plates, other stuff. Imagine how tedious one should be to correctly store this and then put on in reverse order. Otherwise be very familiar with the car and to know by heart all the screws. Almost rocket science. And that’s me being a software dev.
This needs a collab with @m539restorations
Great detailed video and nice editing, sound and light! Looking forward to an introduction of you and this project…hint hint hint 😬
Watching this is very therapeutic. Great work!
The best possible format for this kind of video. Subbed and looking forward to the next one!
Exceptional video!
Waiting for my drill’s battery to charge to go back outside and work on my Mercedes. Great way to pass the time
The narration is epic!!
Very clean work and super professional 👏
Subscribed. You are amazing for posting this!!
Hats off. Not only lot of work but also filming, lighting, editing
Nice en detailed video. I'm a big fan off the N63. Have one myself X5 50i 2011. Love it every minute. Good job reviving this iconic engine. Looking forward for more content. Good camera work en bolt types etc.
Reminds me alot of m539 restorations and that is top notch content! Keep going my friend!
Excellent way to present major operation on car
One more Canadian subscription. Well done 👍
PS: I just stumbled across your channel and I love it so much...I think ading a narration would make this even better! You really made this look easy job, so KUDOS to you and we are looking forward to much more videos & more quality content...Cheers!
Loving it. Thanks for the video.
Wow. A dream channel! Amazing detail and quality! Subbed! Bell rung!
Very nice video!
Insanely job done
Very nice video, great camera work, editing and lighting. It's nice that a car has a huge engine bay, but once they stuff a huge engine in there, it get's cramped for mechanics. I felt your pain when you had to remove that coolant pump.
Wow,, hughe complex setup,, puting everything back would be nice to see.
Impressive work!
Wow great video
Good Job…great Video.
Nice and easy to follow video without all the fluff. Very nice. One suggestion, I believe that hood has a service position where you disconnect the strut supports and move to rear posts. Enjoyed watching.
So therapeutic
And it’s only part 1
Очень крутая работа и видеомонтаж, спасибо, жду продолжения
Thank you!
Thank you for not adding any music.
The amount of work needed to dismount engine!!. I am no car mechanic but need a good memory to know what goes where during reassembly. I am mostly a motorcycle mech and I take picture and write notes on every step I take. So when I reassemble i don't rely on my memory.
GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND , THE BEST OF THE BEST , KEEP IN THAT WAY , THIS IS BRILLIANT , I HOPE YOU MAKE A GOOD ONE ON 535 I N54 E92 2006-2012
Thanks I’m planning on doing this to my 750li 2011 also
no unnecessary acting. Straight to the point
Excellent!
Good job
Very helpful video. Thank you for this!
Excellent video! I just bought a beautiful 2012 750li Individual. I think it has jumped timing and I plan to use your videos for a diy engine swap. I plan to take my time and just do little each day...may take me several months to complete but I only paid 2300 for it! I hear its actually easier to replace the engine rather than replacing the timing chain(s)....I shall see. Thank you for such a priceless tool!
Congrats, great buy! Yes, the engines are really cheap to buy if you are in the US, you can get an entire long block for about 5000$. When you add up all the parts you need, plus the work involved, a new engine is definitely worth it. Good luck with the project, it's a great car once they're working haha
@bimmer.doctor Thanks again! Maybe when I get a used engine, I'll go ahead and replace the timing chain and also upgrade a few other parts before I actually install it. Hopefully, I'll save myself a headache if I do it beforehand. Great channel, new subscriber!
@bimmer.doctor Welp, I decided to give it a go. I'm pulling the engine from the top using a hoist...do I still need to disconnect and lower the exhaust system?
Nice work bro
👍 perfect how to! you Sir, are a genius!
I LOVE the way you mark bolts and tell us what type and how many..
I would include some narration to the videos. Otherwise it’s all perfect.
Nice and straight to the point! Loving this channel!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Please consider adding how long this took and if possible, the price. Again, nice!!
Very methodical!
Brilliant...
I used to work for a BMW dealer - I'm so glad I finished when these cars were just arriving. This modern stuff is terrifying and so fragile. Will you be replacing the valve stem seals and the turbo cooler pipes/unions? Good video - so nice to have no music.
Yes, I’ll be fully “restoring” the engine. Any brittle coolant hoses or problem areas, such as valve stem seals, will be replaced so that the car is running like new when it’s done
By the way - this video is so perfect we could teach a class here or the states on how to take out these Engines - awesome camera work
Great job! New subscriber from Montreal here!
I am also from Montreal! Glad you liked the video
more videos plz
I have subscribed to your channel 👍
Excellent video
Wow BMW makes great cars but makes almost impossible to do things like this one unless its a pro
Awsome
Subbed. Brilliant. When part two?
Great stuff ,wow ,sad love no music no crap just do it
Look at the color of the "lifetime" transmission fluid. Definitely time for replacement.
👍
Good evening, I have seen your video, and I liked it, I have subscribed to the channel, I am waiting for the new video, see how the distribution is changed, greetings from Spain.
Super nice video! Why do you have 2 oil radiators (driver side and passenger side)?
Nice video, what lift do you have? what's your garage height? This is a nice set up
Very different set up then what’s in my 2006 E65
That is a lot of work. Could this be done on quickjack stand?
What a great job I have BMWx6 V 8 can bad engine can fix for please
Didn't know dme on these are watercooled
How much do you charge for a motor swap and where are you located? Keep up the good work with the channel?
What kind of scissor lift is that. Thats perfect for my garage
Amazing content. Where are you located?
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series. I am from Montreal 🇨🇦
I want to know, how the hell you remember where to put back all those bolts 😢
What was the weight capacity of your lift table… ready to drop my engine assembly, but a little concerned about the weight. Otherwise I’d have to do a pallet and a pallet jack, but would rather not bring that home from work!! Thanks again for the amazing videos & help!
The table can support 1,540lbs. You definitely need to have a good table to do this. Another thing is to make sure you add counter weights in the front seats, or put a jack in the rear of the car to prevent it from tipping over when you drop all that weight out the front! Good luck!
Hi! Where can i buy nice tools as you have ?
I have a 2014 750 Li x M sport that has 2 DME will it still be all the same ??
I got a free 2010 GT 550i that does not run, I guess this is what I have to look forward too.
Thank you for sharing this!
I need to remove an engine from my 2016 X5. It's N63 engine, xdrive. I don't have a lift in my garage.
Is it possible to remove it with a regular engine lift?
The plan is to remove the front bumper and support, disassemble the transmission(I would prefer to keep it in place and support it with a stand), and use the engine lift to pull the engine.
Hi there, yes technically it is possible, but on the AWD N63 platform it is much more work to do it that way. But people have done it like that before so it is definitely possible. Good luck!
Can timing chains be done without removing heads? By removing oil pans and lowering subframe for timing cover removal?
Yes! It can actually be done without even removing the oil pan. That’s the way I did my first one on an X6. However, I would highly recommend against doing it this way if you have the tools to drop the engine out. You spend more time fighting for space than actually working. You are also able to do a much better job and replace other components along the way when the whole engine comes out.
How much time did you actually cost? 1day? 3days?
So is the engine has to come out for the timing chain replacement? I guess this is a good time to do all the other things like seals that are harder when the engine is in the car.
Exactly! The main issue is the timing chains that will be replaced, but at the same time I will be replacing valve seals and any other leaking hoses as it is much easier to work on when the engine is out of the car.
Dude nice thanks for the help your video is professional 👍
You may also want to replace the block drain bolts. Install new ones with teflon tape as steel bolts will corrode into an aluminum block. So when you want to do a complete coolant flush, it ccx will be easier.
I commented last fall, about my project car 2012 750Xi with a bad rod bearing, was way too cold to work on during the winter. Have made could progress on trying to pull just the engine. Car lift options are very limited. I did successfully complete an engine swap on a 2002 525i 6-7 years ago, but this a lot more complicated. I would like to pull just the engine if that is possible, I think I found one utube video showing this being done. I still have electrical, vacuum, fuel, and engine/transmission connection. Any other pointers would help. Not sure the engine can be save as I saw vertical scoring of one of the cylinders with my bore scope.
Yeah puling the engine without a lift will be tough, but I have seen people do it. It will definitely take longer, especially on the xDrive cars because you have the axles and stuff in the way. If you have scoring on the cylinder walls then you should replace the engine. I actually have a video coming this weekend comparing an N63 engine replacement vs rebuilding it, so keep an eye out for that!
@@bimmer.doctor I will check and see I can send the cylinder photo I took. Thank for responding. Project that I have successfully completed, change head gasket on Mercedes E300D, changing the oil cooler seals of Mercedes ML350 diesel, and changing cylinder sleeve and rings of old Ford tractor. I did also complete an engine swap of BMW 525i.
@@bimmer.doctor I am still trying to figure out how I can show you some of the bore scope photos I took last fall on this. They are posted on the Beamer fest forum.
Could you do the same job with an n63 AWD using a cherry picker/crane
You could, but generally I prefer this method, especially if the vehicle is AWD. That’s just my preference. I know many people who have done it using the cherry picker method.
Is there any reason why someone with awd should consider dropping the engine vs cherry picker method?
Will you be using AGM tools to do valve stem seals or is this absolutely necessary with engine out?
The AGA tool is great for doing the valve stem seals with the engine still in the car. Personally, I am not a big fan of this method as normally if they need to be replaced, there is a ton of other various gaskets and lines than need to be done too and the AGA tool avoids a lot of that disassembly. Once the engine is out, the toolkit isn’t required because the cylinder heads will be removed and you can use a regular valve spring compressor. I will show this in a later video. Glad you enjoyed the video
