Our boat (350 Mag mpi) was doing the exact same thing. After a bit of research we found your video, bought a new part from Merc and we are back in business. Thanks!
On Friday in the early afternoon, my boat began displaying the exact symptoms described here. After a quick search, I land on this video. I then search for the part, and 10 minutes later, Amazon Prime tells me the part will be delivered the next day. Sure enough, by 10:30 the next morning, the part arrived. Piece of cake. We're back on the water before lunchtime. Made me look like a boss.
We have a 2007 Sea Ray 230 select with the same engine. We bought it pre owned a couple years back, and this issue has not popped up yet. If it does, now I know what I need to do. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much @jayelwin!!! We were out on our Monterey 214 fs 10 miles from home and the 2 beep every 1 minute warning horn starting going off. We gently motored home fearing an engine fail at anytime. Once we got back we notice it wouldn't hold an idle and after much internet research I landed on your video. Result: 20 minutes and $120 we are back up and running!! Grey Bartholomew
I am no mechanic. I had the two beeping noise every minute on the minute. My boat would also stall when I put it in neutral. I researched online and found it was prob the IAC valve. I watched this video and he made it seem so easy. I looked up the part and found a match at an OReilly auto part store. Ford actually used the same valve from 01-03. It cost me $65 total and a little but if my time. It was def worth the watch. By the way, I have a 2005 4.3 Mercruiser.
Perfect advice. Right on. Thank you for taking the time to inform us. These valves are getting harder to find and the electrical connector was a tad different on the one I got. But it worked!
How did u find out what iac valve would fit ur boat I have the 5.7 mercury off a 97 bayliner and I type in that info and like 3 diffrent valves comes up
Thank you for making this post. I have a 05 220 sea ray Sundeck and I experienced the same exact symptoms. I got towed 6 miles back to my slip and went straight to UA-cam and found your video. I bought the new IAC value and problem solved. You surely saved me a few hundred bucks because I was able to make this simple repair. I noticed on your boat that the defective IAC valve was not painted all black like mine was. Has your IAC valve been replaced multiple times? They say original ones have the factory black paint on them and the replacement ones are silver. I am just curious if this is a common problem and worth having an extra onboard in case of a repeat failure.
I replaced mine once before on my 2011 240 Sundancer. I bought a Napa Auto Parts version IAC Valve that has the spring in it. It did not work. I had to fork out the $$ bucks for the Merc version which doesn't have the spring. It worked. Anyone been able to find/use a non-Merc brand and have it actually work? Walker makes one with part #215-2059 but upon closeup look, it seems to have a spring.
I am looking at buying a 2004 220 with 5.0 MPI.. It's a GR8 deal.... Did you have any mild surging at cold idle for some time before the no-start issue? In a "proof of life" video the current owner sent me his engine idle varied just slightly +/- 200-300 RPM... Also I have read where if your batteries are not at least 1000 MCA they can get pulled down to low in voltage during starting and that can mess the ECU up until the batteries charge back up. Also, do you like the boat? Thanks
Mine surges a little at any idle, can even be when hot. Not sure if that's common. I've never had any battery problems, except that one time my alternator died. Or once when the marina kid left the ignition on. But a jump start and I was on my way. I often need to give a little throttle to get it started.
THanks for the video... Couple of things: Was there a "filter" in the housing under the valve? If so did you clean or replace it? How were the hoses? Thanks
There was a little "muffler" which was a little pice of open cell foam. It has no functional effect, but when the IAC valve is open people say it can create a noisy "hiss" sound. I've never noticed anything. The little piece of foam is supposed to make an open IAC valve quieter.
Looks like the issue I'm also having with my 2003 Sea Ray 240 Sundeck -- how do you find the motor number? I believe my engine is the 5.0 MPI Bravo III MCM stern drive. I just want to make sure I get the correct part on Amazon !! Thanks and great video !!
I'm gonna guess that the part is essentially the same for all alpha and bravo and 5.0 and 5.7 engines. When you look them up on line the list of what they fit is long.
yes we had this problem to. bot it wasent this neutral air regalation thing. Fitmrst we thought that it was that but it wasnt. It was a little "cleaner" which cleans the air before it can co into the engine. we just put it out and it is running perfectly now if imthe engine is cold. (sorry for the speling i'm from germany :))
Ladies and gents this advice was extremely helpful and thank goodness you posted the fix!!!!!

Kristin Bartholomew so great I could help. That’s why I post these videos. Enjoy the summer on your boat. Gonna be a hot one today!
Thanks for this information.... same boat and motor , same issue.

That really funny that Ford used the same one cause this is a GM engine

Worked a treat .same problem :: change mine and running perfect .. Excellent video
Thank you
You saved my Memorial Weekend thanks
Awesome. Let’s hope for nice weather.
This video greatly helped me! Thanks. Stingray 215LR Volvo Penta 5.0
I am having the same issue with my 2007 Bayliner 175; MerCruiser 3.0
This is very helpful
Thanks for the video, helped me figure out what was wrong, fix it and did it myself.
So thank you thank you thank you! You saved our vacation!
So glad it helped.

I can’t remember. I’m sure lots of googling.
@@jayelwin Forsure thanks ima just have to take my old one out and find a part number or something
Make sure to change the IAC muffler as well. That is the sponge inside the throttle body. You see it when you remove the flame arrestor.
This helped me a ton. Thanks!
Have a motor with the same problem but I replaced it and still not working can you help me
sorry, but these at the end of the day are pickup truck motors so lots of people out there know how to fix them.
Did you find the missing parts? The pin shaft and spring from you old IAC went somewhere
So after replacing the IAC valve, did you have to clear any codes, and if so how did you do that?
I didn't think about codes. The beeping did stop.
@@jayelwin OK, thanks very much.

I’m sure that broken IAC valve on my boat was not an original.
J’ai eu un problème de idle le moteur se coupait au neutre avec alarme j’ai remplacé le iac et tout es rentré dans l’ordre
Did this cure the startup problem where it starts right up?
Yes starts right up now.
Good deal. Going to try that today.

Where did you buy your IAC
Somewhere on the internet. They seem to be readily available. Can't remember where though. Sorry.
Is that part # 862998?
Correct

Amazing none of the comments state ,Idle Air Control.
It sounds like it has a worn gimbal bearing
Where did you hear that?
Man you are one hairy bastard. hahaa. Good thing the fellas on the forum came through for you, ey?
Stick to OM part, I bought this cheap one it lasted 6 months original lasted 12 years
Leider ein Laster der modernen Zeit
Throw a couple of them in glove box, ones not enough! Your already replacing a replacment iac.
Jd Lund not a bad idea.
MER cruiser not a MARE Cruiser. Lol
Twin Kids TV title says Mercruiser
jayelwin but that’s not how pronounced it in his narrative.
its not called an eye-ack valve and no one calls it that, it's i-a-c
I’ve literally never heard someone say “I-a-c” lol 🤷♂️
