I tell patients that if you 18 to 88 years old and want freedom from glasses and contacts we have the procedure for you. We have laser corrective surgery like Lasik. We have natural lens replacement with special intraocular lenses called refractive lens exchange RLE. We have premium lens and lifestyle lenses that we can use after cataract surgery. When a patient comes in for an evaluation we will discuss their needs, expectations, and lifestyle to determine what is the best procedure. We are helping more patients over the age of 50 get out of their reading glasses by performing RLE. In RLE surgery we take out the natural dysfunctional lens and replace it with a premium lens that can achieve distance and reading vision or distance and intermediate vision. Once they have this surgery when they get older they will not need cataract surgery because they have already replaced their natural lens. In cataract surgery we replace the natural lens that has become cloudy with age and offer the patient the same options that the RLE patients receive. We now have an option to provide patients with a trifocal intraocular lens for RLE and Premium Cataract patients that will help them achieve vision at near, intermediate, and distance. The PanOptix Trifocal Intraocular Lens was approved today.
I have been keeping tract of this lens since going on a lecture tour in Europe and Australia. The surgeons there had access to the Trifocal for years and stated that patients were very happy with the results. The data that they presented demonstrating vision at various distances was impressive. In the United States trial 99% of PanOptix patients stated they would choose the lens again. Now with the lens in the United States we have the opportunity to offer some of our patients this technology. But I tell patients that there is not a one size fits all surgery or lens. In our consultation we customize the treatment plan to your vision needs, eye anatomy, age, future needs, and expectations. We have invested in the latest technology to help us look at your eye in many different ways so that we can customize a plan for your specific eye. We have also have invested heavily in technology to provide the surgeons the ability to perform advanced surgery. The Zeiss Callisto computer assisted Surgical System will optimize the success of the PanOptix.
