Had to come back to this video to rescue my son's data from his Win10 install as a HDD->NVME drive upgrade didn't go too smoothly!
Long time since I'd had a tech tools USB (used Sardu in less than16GB) and Medicat looks perfect.

Over the years there have been some truly incredible recovery tools like the venerable NDD which could recover data from floppies even if they had cuts and holes in them! - I wonder how long it will be before some clever sod writes a tool that interfaces with AI like CHATGPT to do all the grunt work.. its only a matter of time me thinks

Hi Brian, your videos are great, and I can remember asking if you would do a video on this tool. But ran into several errors during the installation. Sorry but I've changed my mind about using this tool after wasting days of bandwidth and hours of failed attempts to install this thing. I followed all the instructions from the developers, but their convoluted setup process is a disaster, and I'm a season IT professional having done many such installs in the past. But alas I don't have the time anymore. To me this is just lazy developers not being able to create a straightforward installer, it's a shame because this tool has practically everything, I used the older version which from what I can remember didn't have this backward method of installation. Great video though Brian!
I've tried 3 times to follow your step-by-step instructions. When I say Yes to start installing Ventoy, I do NOT get the screen you show at 1:51. I get the screen you show at 1:54 and click YES and the Ventoy gets installed BUT ... after that the rest of the steps do NOT produce the USB you have. I also tried using the Medicat site instructions ... they also fail. Is there anyway you can make a .ZIP file from your USB that we can download and then copy the contents to our USB drive? Thanks.

Curious to know more about this, I noticed towards the end you mentioned resetting passwords....
Long story short, I set up a computer a while back and set up a password that I forgot, would this allow for me to be able to get passed that so I can remove the password?
It's been a few years now, and has just been sitting there. I spent a lot of money on it, (about as much as a weekend vacay) but I barely used it unfortunately 😕 🙄
I'm not like super smart on this topic, however your explanation on how this might work, was easy enough for me to follow along with & understand. So thank so much for that.
Would it be possible for you to make a tutorial on how to do that using this helpful software/ tool, (or whatever it is considered).

Answering both questions, using geek logic, YES. Most password programs that *I'VE* used work quite well and only requires a Jethro Bodine level of education to use. And if you're not afraid (you didn't mention if this was a desktop or laptop), you can remove the hard drive, install it into a drive closure, plug it into another computer and access the files. Easier than "cloning".

Personally I use it and can't fault it

If you're looking for a new subject to present: Quite a few of my friends and family have asked how they can keep/reuse their old (and sometimes not so old) PCs now that Microsoft has set excessive hardware requirements. Maybe Linux (Mint) + Libreoffice or Chrome. do you have any suggestions

noob question but doesn't Windows Defender scans your flashdrive (since some files are flagged as virus/malware, they might get deleted) once it boots to normal?
If I install Medicat on a USB thumb drive. Can I then take an image of that thumb drive and boot that ISO from the standard Ventoy menu?

Ok Brian mate I have tried several times to download the MediCat software and have a USB (Ventoy) drive with the installer already on it but the problem is that the main bulk of the software will not download or partially downloads and errors on me. So just what am I not doing properly

Why does Medicat install to usb trigger multiple viruses on install by win11 defender ? Not installing.
I tried creating a Medicat USB and it wouldn't boot to that menu where everything showed up.
When I boot medicat and its other software my resolution is very low, like 800x600. It really affects the usability of the softwares inside because I cant click the buttons. Is there resolution to this?

I'm struggling with this. Doesn't matter whether I choose the Secure Boot or Non Secure Boot option. I still get a SecureBoot error when trying to boot the usb. No option to install key, like with normal Ventoy. Works if I disable SB in bios, but I don't like that.

after i made my medicat usb drive it returned 73 bad no missing files most of them CRC mismatch any help would be greatly appreciated thank you and you have the most helpful video's ever

Hi Bri - I was wondering if you could please help. When I start my PC it won't connect to the internet unless I reboot it. I've updated the drivers etc but it hasn't fixed the problem. I have tried and searched the internet but they all seem to be about wifi problems not a wired connection. So do you have any idea what's going on?

Brain, you stated you wish that it included Kasperky. Is this not like SARDU and some others where a person can add their own ISO images before writing to the USB?

I put this USB stick together and then scanned it with malwarebytes which found about 60 pieces of malware! Surely these cannot all be false positives can they?
1:20 sometimes antivirus can be really annoying. Yesterday I downloaded an official copy of Linux Mint and my Malwarebytes kept deleting parts of the install package saying it was malware.
Looks like the program has been updated. Alot of steps in this video, are no longer present. You can also format the usb, using GPT instead of MBR. Is that recommended?
MBR max 4 partitions ..gbt 128 partitions...for usb go for mbr

Whats the best way to clone my laptop hdd to a new hdd old one is totally kaput, would I be able to recover my data intact by cloning?
Tried it. Didn't install with the win installer. Then did the Ventoy thing and wrote the downloaded files to the stick. Then Windows anti virus started picking up the virusses in the downloaded data. Wiped this piece of sheet data out. Won't try it again.
I didn't see in the comments what the minimum size flash drive can be used.
Any Drive over 32 GB is supported by Medicat.

What is a realist useful usb drive size to install to?
for just the stuff that comes with it, 32gb. if you want room for ISO files 64+gb

Do you have any suggestions for Bios Password removal? I have my old laptop Acer predator Helios 300 (G3-572-72MT) and I forgot the password.
from what i know bios removal is done through a programmer in which the bios chip is removed from the motherboard or wiring is connected onto the chip then the bios is flashed with a new bios file

I knew that already but i didn't want to break the warranty.
It took some time but support responded and it is unlocked now.
I have a video muxer as .bat batch script file ..when I try to import file to .dat batch script in cmd it is imported but completed output not generate it says the path cannot not specified error...in top cmd it says system not ready
In another same like .bat file when I open it shows timer and clik to exit not loading full script...
How to fix these issues....I tried all tricks in UA-cam, website tips non of them worked....

You can use it for data recovery, but more than that.. no idea.

Might this be intended for "professionals"? It's so complicated manoeuvring through the "maze", for me, of "meaningless" pages, that I keep getting lost. Why can't just two or three actions be sufficient? That would be "easy", "simple", "straightforward" and "intuitive" and any number of other euphemisms so liberally used in connection with computers.
The beloved toolkit, a large part of the programs do not work even after disconnecting the antivirus, it's a shame...
Scan this with bitdefender and see the result before using it..

1:05 yes lets run someone else made script that need to run admin xD i not know why need admin if write files on same folder unless write on system folder. same as install ventoy and all same tools it has. those same you allready downloaded somepoint any way
after checking the files i get an error in cmd that says Checkfiles.bat is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. It then gives me the location of the medicat folder.
A lot of virus i open this sh*t and my antivirus blocked 58 hits only obout the nirsoft tools i finely i got have a latest clean backup with Acronis from my laptop to put the image back
a direct links are good ...not just your :( .... why faster and there can be fake webpage out there at any time.... don't make us guest
