You're spot on. The Exquis midi controller from Intuitive Instruments won the midi innovation awards 2023. And its basically another isomorphic midi controller like the Axis-49 and Lumatone. Its cheaper too and has touch vibrato. About €250.

Isomorphic layouts are great! The same fingering working for every key is a wonderful advantage. I've been playing with square grids (LinnStrument, Novation Launchpad) and enjoying them. The pads have lights, so your scale and some layout options are flexible, unlike the Axis. The most popular layout seems to be like strings of a guitar (each row goes left to right one half-step per pad, and going down is a fifth, e.g. C is above G), so if you're used to guitar fret layout, that knowledge carries over.
Another hex grid controller of possible interest is the Lumatone, which looks great and is very flexible in terms of keyboard layout (using programmable lights to indicate notes), like the app you mention (but the Lumatone is physically much larger than the Axis, and more expensive). You can find lots of videos with various people playing Lumatone. Also see the HyveSynth (tiny & inexpensive) which has a single physical hex grid layout as well as a traditional small piano layout!

Crazy is like 160 years old and just now getting popular. You know how many people wasted hours and days and years trying to handle the key spread on traditional layouts?!?!????? Ugh 😩

It's way past time for another hardware company to give an isomorphic MIDI controller another shot. I love using Musix Pro. I use it daily.

It’s not a hardware company, but there is a dude who makes one. Striso ($500) has an amazing layout. I used virtual versions of several isomorphic layouts before completely falling in love with the Striso layout. I use one with Loopy Pro, and even made a touch version in LP (I’ll share it with the community once I figure out how to do so smoothly - right now you’d have to route all 110 buttons individually to your AUv3 of choice). It’s that expensive because its MPE, and every note has velocity sensitivity, after touch, and X and Y control, and it’s hand assembled. Anyway. Yeah. I adore the thing so much. Music theory is so much easier with it.

@@anthonywestbrook2155 - Let me know if you want another pair of eyes to look at how to hook up an isomorphic loopy pro thing.
I have a module that has a mini tonnetz chart in it that is playable and isomorphic.

The Axis 49 looks sick. Remind me of Polyplayground.

Ya the layout is similar to polyplayground! Love that app too! You still rockin it? You kill it on that app 💯🔥

No doubt, the LaunchKey mini has the most controls for the money. Your BM3 Config is great. Just playing with Logic for iPad and there’s no midi controller mapping or midi learn. Sheesh!

Hi! Is the Novation Launchkey MKIII bus-powered? I have an iPad 9gen 2021 and an apple original camera connection kit (the basic usb to lightning). Would it work If I connect the Launchkey to my iPad just with the connection kit (no extra power)? Thanks!

      Jamstik MPE midi2 guitar.
MPE can be introduced soon across all DAWS, if we nicely ask A.I. to do some upgrades to music software because of the time it seems to take human programmers to get around to it.
