You should mention that you need to purchase the $60 "Hue Bridge" from Philips if you want them to change colors. I bought these for $130 and went to install them and it told me I needed another piece if i wanted to set them up Otherwise they were just very bright white lights.
I just got the smart plug and now I find out I need Hue bridge for colors smh. This how they got you, Phillips next time try have a bundle so we don’t have to keep going back to BestBuy lol. Gas is expensive to keep going back to the store. I don’t have the patient to wait for online shopping 😂🤣🤙🏽.
I had the same issue. I returned them and got the govee light bars for 50 bucks and I’m much happier! They are not as bright white as the hue’s but for the price you can’t beat it
Let me know what you think to this type of video guys! Still trying out new stuff so let me know if you want me to make more vids like this! Thankkksss
You don't need the sync box if you're using a PC or laptop (but you do need the hub/bridge). The sync box is for connecting other devices (consoles/apple tv/did player) to a TV/monitor
Just to mention, the play lights will NOT sync work with DRM video apps such as Netflix/Amazon Prime Video etc unless you either 1. Buy the HDMI sync box or 2. Disable hardware acceleration in your browser, which limits you to 1080p. This is a feature of widevine which most streaming services use for copyright protection to make it harder for apps to record movies/TV shows etc.
Hi ! Thank you for review setup. May i please ask the Philips Hue Pc software app only works for Philips Play Bar? Does it work with Philips Hue light Strip? Thank you for reading and looking forward to your reply.
Question : do you need a WiFi motherboard to be able to synch games? Or can you do this via cable to your router? It's the one thing i need to know but cant find out anywhere! thanks,
I was waiting to see a awkward scene of you sitting down at your desk, then leaving, then coming back, then leaving, to demonstrate the motion sensor. Also; "clean as a whistle" - don't know why, but that made me laugh!
Haha I filmed that clip and then forgot the reason why I walked up to the desk... It was to demonstrate the motion sensor but the lights were already on lol fail - Thanks for watching!
I was told these need a Wifi bridge yo be able to use the Phillips app to control the lights. Is this true? Because there was no mention of that whatsoever on your video. Pls advice.
Really good video! I can tell it’s really well prepared and a you lot of effort put in, to achieve a really well made, high quality video. Josh, I wish you all the very best for your future wether it be teaching guitar or making tech videos. Best of luck for the near future brother.
Great video, and good to see you finally found the magnet to the motion sensor! I've just moved to a variable height desk with 3 mounted monitors, so considering installing 2 or 3 of these or nanoleaf on the wall. Tempted by this setup as I've already got hue so it'll work nicely.
Im trying to find out this exact question...but as far as i know, ull stick those light on monitor and connect it basicly only for the power...but u have to have bridge and an app in pc. That PC will sent a ,,message" to bridge, bridge will transform it to hua language and send it to lights...this is how i do understand that concept. I hope i made it understandable, not sure,im not native soeaker mate :)
Bought them yesterday and I am pretty hyped to test them ... Now I saw this video and the part with the motion sensor is just awesome! Just ordered it also now. Can't wait! … Also can you tell me what those thin, black bars behind your monitors are? Are those speakers? I have a very similiar Setup and looking for some small speakers like that - Thanks a lot!
I've had a problem where my lights were not found when I searched for them on the bluetooth hue app. The light was on, and it is bluetooth compatible, and i've researched everywhere, but the light would not find. Any tips?
Gread video cool set up. Keep it up. I tried to mount the HUE Play Bars behind my TV & Monitors great idea BUT due to heat eventually those things started to drop off especially in the middle of the night. I’ve given up so I just placed it on the stands instead.
I am quite late but still hoping for an answer. I have kinda a weird deal setup becasue my weird room forced my hand. My monitors face into open space. I want these to do the color on each side in “reaction” to the game and what is going on in game. Would slightly tucking this behind my monitor with half open still give off good lighting?
Hey mate just found your channel this morning and watched this and the secret lab chair set up....would you recommend this for an xbox gaming room set up or is it pointless ? Cheers
Hey dont you also need a Phillip Hue bridge? I had used your link to buy them with the starter kit but later found out a seperate $50 bridge is ALSO required for the starter kit to work at all. There is a different starter kit that costs $150 from bestbuy and only differnce is it included the bridge.
Nice review. Are there any reason why you use light bar istead of lightstrips? Is that monitor and tv will only sync with light bar but not lightstrips? or you want light bar only because it has stronger light?
Pretty cool ma! I was looking into these so im watching a couple vids to make sure i like them. I think i would have gone with a single pack vs that extension set. I mean its just $10 more expensive, yet yo do get that extra adapter. Though i wonder if any other multi adapter would work just as fine
Kinda weird their led strip puts out more light than this bug lamp. One would think this lamp would have much more power. It stats 550lm on their site and the led strip its either 950 or 1600lm with extension. That would mean this lamp doesnt have that much leds in it.
Hey man, I got the light bars with an extension one included. Now Two light bars seem to work in the Power supply but when you put the 3rd one in it just cuts them all out? Any help?
Bought the light bar, but the app keeps asking me for the philips hub and wont go past that screen? Your review mentions nothing of buying a hub for setting these up!
How do you do it with out the sync box ? I want to buy this light , I already have the starter kit but I want to add this light to match the tv screen , but don’t know if it is possible with out the sync box ? I’ll be really grateful if you help me !!
Hi! Im not techy but I loved your setup. I’m also on the verge of buying the playbar, just started with this whole apple homekit thing with our lights. I want to ask what is it on top of your table that also has lights on it?
Ah sorry, I thought you meant on top of the desk! The blue light is coming from an LED strip kit on the back of the desk. You can pick them up off Amazon pretty cheap if you search for LED kit :)
Hey, quick question, how did you hide the LED strip dotting reflecting off of your wall? I'm using the Philips hue strip and can see individual led dots reflecting off the wall. Please HELP!
Just don't have it too close! Also might have to do with the fact that the Phillips strips don't have that much LED density compared to others, quite spaced apart.
Is it required to have a hue bridge to setup this lights?
You should mention that you need to purchase the $60 "Hue Bridge" from Philips if you want them to change colors. I bought these for $130 and went to install them and it told me I needed another piece if i wanted to set them up Otherwise they were just very bright white lights.
I literally have exact same problem

I think its very stupid to buy somthing that expensive without informing yourself...
I had the same issue. I returned them and got the govee light bars for 50 bucks and I’m much happier! They are not as bright white as the hue’s but for the price you can’t beat it

Do you need internet for these?
Love your SoundblasterX Katana soundbar..great choice i love mine
How did you connect the light bars to your phone without a bridge??
Probably the best and most informative video I’ve found so far about the Play Bars!! Loved it
So do you need the hue sync box to sync the bridge and lights to devices?
You don't need the sync box if you're using a PC or laptop (but you do need the hub/bridge). The sync box is for connecting other devices (consoles/apple tv/did player) to a TV/monitor

Thanks for this! Was wondering how bright they are and was great to see an unbiased honest review.

Did you manage to figure this out?
Just connect the hue bridge via ethernet and make the sync with games in the hue windows app.
What's that blue light brother ?
I was waiting to see a awkward scene of you sitting down at your desk, then leaving, then coming back, then leaving, to demonstrate the motion sensor.

You need the hue bridge to even change the colors
How are the rear mounting adhesives holding up after almost a year?

yeah you need a hue bridge for the lights. otherwise there's no point of buying philips hue lights
@@dahlf854 U should have mentioned that on you review, some of Phillips lights are Bluetooth and don't require bridge.
Great video mate, and smart set up. Also, where did you get that wall paper?
You can find wallpaper like that on steam

So you definitely need the Hue Bridge for the bar lights right?
Yes
Hi, do they work without the bridge? or do you need the bridge indefinitely?

Would you say it is better to use Phillips play bars even if your whole system is Corsair and uses iCue? How does the colors and brightness compare?
Hi! So on PC you don't need to buy the hue sync box in order to sync with games, movies and music right? Just need the app...?!
Nope just the app!
How do I download the app please? Can't find it anywhere in any stores or the hue website
