The race video is dropping next weekend, so make sure you go to The Humble Mechanic's latest build video to see what we're up against! ua-cam.com/video/aFxjst5ELfw/v-deo.html
At 19:48 a quick tip for stuck wheels, use a rubber coated deadblow on the backside of the wheel and 9/10 times it’ll pop right off. If a when doesn’t fall off first thing I do is grab a deadblow and tap it if nothing I give her a good swing and that gets it most of the time
With the race already over if you keep the car try fixing it for E85. Would love to see that! I definitely think the wiring to the pump has too much resistance. The Demon uses 12 guage wire and I think the Camero uses 16 guage wire. I don't have numbers to calculate voltage drop. New injectors might also help.
@@dkis8730 the Demon pump draws somewhere between 15-25 amps. I could get an exact number when looking online. Anything more than 10 feet of wire and you'd get at least 5-10% drop depending on various factors (primarily amperage). It isn't a lot, but it could be just enough.
what i like about this series is you can see the REAL WORLD issues most of us 'blue collar' enthusiasts deal with. I make good money but i have a house, multiple cars, kids, etc and cant afford to just go buy a $50k+ vehicle and toss another $30k in parts in it to make it fast...toss money at a shop who turn-key's your fast car and you just go pick it up. The fact that this old Camaro is in pretty much the exact shape most of us would buy it if we wanted a budget RWD tire shredder...and the parts are eBay/budget upgrades is pretty cool. Two big American thumbs up for this series, I'm putting a bigger turbo in my 2016 Focus ST likely next month and it'll still only hit about 500whp with a much higher parts cost than this Camaro...if i didnt have to fit two kids seats in the back, I'd be gettin myself a Camaro ^_^
To all the idiots saying "u dont need a relay" "why do u need a relay""hellcats dont have a relay" "i know everything about electricity" clearly not u idiots when your have a bigger aftermarket pump in a older car like that your powering it thru tiny 16 gauge wire if not smaller you run a relay that takes power straight from your battery and give the pump the proper voltage and only uses the factory tiny wiring to turn on the relay to send the proper voltage to the bigger fuel pump
Your fueling issue could be the way the those 4th gen camaros return fuel at the filter instead of the end of the fuel rail. Running a dedicated return all the way to the engine and plumb into the side opposite of the inlet that way all 8 injectors have consistent and adequate pressure. Thats my best guess. Love the build and the channel. Keep it up!
22:42 good call trimming that. The air that would have been channeled straight upward would have slowed the air coming in directly, and scoops that channel air upwards from the bottom of the bay are essentially useless without proper extraction vents.
Lmao, the star spangled banner was great. This is gonna win the drag race, but i dunno about the rally and autocross 😂 no tires, no brakes and no suspension lol. These vids are great and Chris is cool
Mustang on autocross for sure. Camaro on drag race. Rally cross is the toss up and probably depends more on the driver. I'm going Mustang on rallycross and overall winner.
Question, what the rim and tire size on the Corvette rear wheels? What size spacer did you use to get the wheels to fit in the wheel well? How thick was the spacer? Did you have to recenter the axle? Was their any rubbing or anymore modifying you did in the wheel well? I'm planning on putting on 19 x 11 Corvette wheels on my 97 Camaro. 18x9.5 front and 19x11 rear.
"i'm not saying the camaro is some kind of creepy sex pervert," look man, you don't get a nickname like _the catfish_ by _not_ being a creepy sex pervert
Im not sure if its because you guys are trying to defend the tuner guy or what but the ecu wasnt the issue. He bricked it by mapping it without a jump box when the car lost power it locked the ecu. Always have atleast 13v when putting a new map
2 things #1 a fuel pressure regulator 2# a 40amp relay with 12 gauge or bigger wire for the fuel pump And The e85 might of destroyed the fuel filter and got abunch of trash in the injectors
May check voltage. GM Alternators often drop voltage at RPM. ESP. cheap reman auto store alternators. My autozone alt would quit charging at 5k rpm or so. Good alternator, or a big pulley to slow it down fixes it. The fuel pump doesn't put out diddly when the voltage drops. Those intank pumps are garbage anyway. The inline AEM400's are what you want IMO. Also E50 fuel will go a LONG way if you are having fuel supply voltages. Its a much better fuel than 93.
So wait you wasted money on pushrods when you could have gotten a $99 ss2 ebay cam? But did valve springs? Man I wish some legit guys helped them with their budget stuff.
Would love to see this and mustang get a proper build series each after this. Both are rough but with TLC, an actual decent amount of time, and some extra cash, both could be turned into neat street cars that would make for a good viewing experience and give y'all some different kinds of fun
Damn Bill! That is so awesome! Good work mate! I’m from Australia and I grew up with mum in a ‘69 Mach1, Dick Johnson racing a fox body in Australia’s V8 Tintop racing series and just love them. I’m in a Whipple ‘18 Stang now and will end up with an old school Mustang when I retire to tinker on. I would love a Fox Body, but they are very rare here. Most likely will get a ‘65 notch back. Great work sharing your loves, inspires us all!
Why do people think that value springs need to be stiffer to " hold back the boost" , that's not how internal combustion works. The cam pushes the valves open and it's not during the combustion cycle except for a very short period of time depending on the cam. The valve springs Never " hold" the valves closed against boost pressure. If that were true, which it isn't, boost would hold the valves closed, not open them. I've heard more than one person say that and they need to stop.
So, the easy way to get off stuck wheels is to put a couple lug nuts back on and back them of a turn or so and then lower the car so the wheel has weight on it. If that alone doesn’t do it, a whack or 2 with a sledge hammer (with a chunk of wood in between) against the wheel (with the weight of the car still on it) does it EVERY time. Great video as always. This reminds me of how a lot of street cars were built back the the early 80s. Awesome series.
What was the fix for the fuel pump issue?
You guys didn't show the oil feed for the turbo
Aren't you guys cheating by having Christopher do all the heavy lifting?
Christopher is hilarious 😂 his chemistry with tall Ben is great.
i was thinking the same thing, laughed this whole episode
The 24:31 "i'm sorry?" is the hardest i have laughed in weeks.
Incredible video! Loving these long format episodes you guys have moved back to. Can't wait for the conclusion.
The music over the engine starting was absolute genius!
I pledge alligiance, to this LS1, and to its turbo, and all of the tires it will slay, every track day forevermore.
