2012 black ops 2 lobbies were basically the beaches of normandy
Legit one day I was playing Halo: Reach. At the time I was 20, on a bunch of opiates and doing Firefight. Talkative 13 year old in the lobby is just trying to make friends, but nobody has mic or wants to engage. I plug my mic in and we just chat. He starts sticking close to me and we end up Army of Two'ing that fight while the quiet duo just keeps getting slaughtered. We barely clutch a victory. He's like " You're fun (My account name) - can I please add you? " - before the round ends and we get sent our different ways.
So, I sent him a friend invite, then I actually helped find him a good friend group of teenagers and I was like " Remember how you were struggling to find buddies? Look at you now. " - and he was just so excited to have people close to his age that waned to talk about movies, shows, Halo lore- it was great and it felt awesome to help a kid socially struggling. He had been so self conscious and nervous and I was like " There's your problem. You care too much about what jerks may say. They can just mute you if they don't like it. It's not hard. Don't be afraid to chat. Be friendly and friendly people will flock to you. "
Sure enough, I think he currently runs a small clan on Halo MCC specifically for " We just chill in party chat, game and make jokes. "
Super happy with how that ended. I thankfully never got into trash talking people on Xbox Live, just admitting when someone got the better of me and almost always they'd go " Nah man, you're better than me at some things. I'm sorry, but you're seriously still really good and it was a good fight. " - Because nobody sensible wants to be the douchey winner.

i met a dude when i was in 3rd grade on a cruise ship, i started the first ever convo with “so fo yall play fortnite? what do you think about the grappler?” it eventually led up to me asking for their usernames before we left the cruise, we’re 16 now and meet every summer, and it wouldn’t have happened without fortnite

One time two of my friends who lived next door in an apt, had their headsets plugged in but not on their heads. And i dunno if they thought they needed to be on their heads to work or not but they where screaming obscene shit at eachother through the wall, and their plugged in headsets, that werent on their heads picked up everything they screamed at each other. Said a bunch of trigger words and despite being in a public lobby with multiple strangers, and so many people they could have gotten into arguments with got both their accounts banned for a week for the convo they where yelling at each other through the wall. Listen people I will say this once again. Back in the late 2000s and early 2010s everything that people said or did on the Internet even through live chats said horrific things. At the time everyone thought it was really funny and it was considered "okay". Nowdays its not really okay to say. So for anyone who is "shocked" by this just so you know you were not around when this was going on.
Also, the stuff shown in this video is NOWHERE NEAR AS BAD as what was actually sent on a regular basis. Especially if you were perceived as being a girl.

As an Xbox player who has absolutely totally not said completely deplorable things in online games, you can’t find many types of people capable of saying unholy and offensive things on the same scale as an angry xbox player

That reminds me of when my brother would get mad at me he would spam me messages similar to some of these randomly.
I just wanna point out for that first one, there is no 100% guarantee, sleep is far beyond our full understanding and it may or may not be true since while the "main" part of your brain shuts off, you still remember your dreams, so there's a point to be made that you are still your subconscious and therefore the break in consciousness is not really death.

The bit about feeling bad for shit talking certain people made me think of the time me and my friends, all at like 12 years old, were being toxic as hell in a halo lobby and then it lead to us and a stoned as hell grown ass man from Mexico city spending like two or three hours playing together just for the sake of having a 4v1 roast. In the end, even our stubborn, moronic child asses had to admit he'd won.
