- Check out the highlights as the Pittsburgh Maulers defeated the Michigan Panthers 31-27 in an Overtime thriller. Quarterback Troy Williams threw for 203 yards and one passing touchdown. Running back Garret Grosheck had 32 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown while the Maulers Defense had one interception and one fumble recovery. With this win the Pittsburgh Maulers are the Champions of the North Division and will take on the winner of the South Division Championship. The intense run by the Maulers as I thought it was a touchdown but he has out of bounds. But, I was quite glad the Maulers win the playoffs. Who will be facing them next?

USFL football can only get better and that’s a good thing, the league should be proud of the talent and product they presented. Hope this league thrives and grows into the USFL that a lot of us have dreamed of a first rate spring league. That was entertaining.
I'd like to see the USFL attract more NFL fans for more support during the NFL off-season. This'll be a long shot, but it'd be awesome to see the XFL and USFL grow to the point where the two could merge to make one big spring league with an extended season.

I'm not from the States, but I hope the USFL survives...maybe I'm wrong on this, but I think the league's pay model of equal pay for all team members actually builds the team cohesion, and really supports the team first concept, and I get the sense that there's a hunger to these players that you don't see as much of in the NFL. Lotta guys in the USFL are playing with something to prove to themselves and others, and it comes out on the field. Hopefully, it can continue to grow.
Yeah they’re more passionate because they don’t have the money to have the NFL mindset of “whatever happens, happens, because I’m a millionaire, I’ll be fine, I’ve already made it.” They are not even payed in the 100 thousands and they’re not in a big league so they got more to lose. That’s what builds that passion

EJ Perry cost us the game he fumbled the ball trying to pull it back on a fake run and it led to a TD

Great game just wish the overtime wasn't 2 point conversions ....maybe start the teams at the 35 and give the defense more of a chance to do something but it was a great game.

That style of overtime favored Pittsburgh's offense a great deal. And dude up top saying Pittsburgh's defense did something with their chance, that's a little of an overstatement, The fumble and tipped/ incomplete pass was all in MI.
Due to how exhausted the defenses were, I would prefer a kicking contest where they kicked from longer and longer distances. A coin flip would be used to determine which team would decide whether they want to kick first or second. The first kick would be 30 yards, second 40, third 50, fourth, 55, fifth 60. Then repeat the 60 harder until someone misses. First kicker to miss would end the game with his team losing.

Thought it was an amazing game however I didn't really know how to feel about the OT ending, it just felt weird.
I'm not sure if the penalty kick/shoot out style of OT is a good fit for American Football
The USFL should ditch this overtime rules and use the College Overtime rules. The CFL had a game at the same time as this USFL playoff game and that CFL was more exciting because of the College OT rules that the CFL employs

@@davidbuswa9425 Coaches get paid at the junior high and high school level, too. And while some college players get paid, not all get much. The point I'm making is about levels of skill. There is a better format.

Great game, but that overtime rules of the play on the 2 yard line takes away the exciting element on the game. That fumble in the endzone slowed down the excitement and momentum of the game, especially for a playoff game. The USFL should use the College Overtime rules. The CFL game between the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Calgary Stampeders also went into overtime and the score in the extra frame went back and forth. The CFL uses the College Overtime rules in that league
I love the shoot out OT rule. I think the NFL should adopt it also. Guarantees equal possession and makes it thrilling to watch.
@USFL The overtime format needs to be changed to this:
- Coin toss, kickoff.
- Each team gets one offensive possession (a kickoff return TD counts as one possession).
- When a team turns over on downs, they must kickoff to the other team (onside kicks are not allowed).
- A team must score a TOUCHDOWN to win, no field goals allowed!
TO WIN:
- If one team scores a touchdown on their possession and the other team doesn't on theirs, the scoring team wins.
- If both teams score a touchdown on their possession, then it goes to the current shootout format to decide a winner.
- If both teams do not score a touchdown on their possession, then it goes to the current shootout format to decide a winner.
The USFL and the XFL both have better overtime rules than the NFL.
In the last 2 minutes there were 3 missed penalties on Michigan in a row 😭

Y’all act like it’s the refs fault when they were 100% on Michigan. I swear refs can’t even do their jobs anymore without people crying about it. Not saying it’s you specifically but it’s pretty rampant.

I think that fumble recovery by Michigan in overtime should have been allowed and counted. That is a dumb rule. However, it was a great game for both teams.
Yeah. I understand it's purpose but when the fumble is clearly unintentional it can be a judgement call and a good score.

Its not easy to score at the 2 yard line with one play. Right between the two teams only 1/2 of the chances were made.

This was a great game. If the USFL is going to be playing in Canton next year wouldn't it make sense to for Canton to have a home team? Perhaps turning the Philadelphia Stars into the Canton Aviators? Just a thought? I'm really enjoying the league and hope they make it. I've watched as many games as I could over the two seasons and drove from Central Florida to Birmingham to attend my first USFL game. I'm doing my part to support the league.
Leave the Stars. Create an expansion team in one of the two NFL markets of Ohio (Cleveland or Cincy) that'll play in the Canton stadium.

and to add my two cents,i know players are mostly using the usfl, and the xfl,as platforms to try and make it back into the nfl,and for those that do, fine,good for them. bit i would also hope that these leagues can have enough success,and fan interest, that players they develope,like alez mcgough, or an e.j perry will be content to have careers in both leagues.

Now the Pittsburgh Maulers play the Birmingham Stallions In the championship. Yeah the Maulers are screwed, but considering that they have won more games this season than they have in their entire existence (going back to the their only season in the original USFL in 1984), and they are actually in championship game. I'll take it!

The Panthers should have won this game but they beat themselves over 100 yards in penalties and the turnovers too much to overcome. The Maulers offence is TRASH. Whoever wins the game between the Stallions and Breakers WILL be the champion of this league.

Either Birmingham (more than likely) is going to destroy Pitt, or Pitt is going to be rigged to win.
I mean when the played in the regular season, Pitt lost by only 4 points 24 to 20 and that was after losing the lead in the 4th quarter due to a kickoff return for a touchdown. Just because Birmingham won more games doesn't mean that they'd destroy Pitt

Look at what they just did to the Breakers, and they made it look easy. I just don't see Pitt winning this one, too many offensive flaws... and relying on your defense to win for you is always a gamble.

I don't get it! Why are they playing in an empty stadium? The USFL needs to do a better job of marketing these games to the people who live In the city they are being played in, so they get more of a turnout on GameDay. I would like to see a spring football league actually succeed...

Sorry, the South is SOOO much better (at least for now). The North is a joke, this game proved it, 2 4-6 teams playing for a shot at a Championship.... a 100% pure joke!
As much as I want the USFL to succeed.... it still feels VERY amature to me. Of course, I couldnt compete at this level, but between the lack of fans, rather bland looking jerseys, and whole stadium thing, I just dont find the games interesting to watch. Hopefully it only gets better and gains more traction.
You are concentrating on the wrong thing. Watch the talent and the development of the players. Plus, the strategy of the game. If you are going to compare it to the NFL, then you are going to be disappointed.
