Out of all your videos, this one has to be my favorite because I'm new to this and I did a job for a nice gentleman yesterday that needed 6 powder coated mugs for a trip in one day and this was my first real attempt. I started around 6pm, because we'll, I have a full time job, but I screwed up 3 mugs before finding a setting that worked and finally got all his mugs done, at 2am. Once I had the setting, each cup took less than 4 minutes. Even then they weren't perfect. The stainless shined through with no split mark lines so I was happy about that, but the stainless looked darker in places and I'm still not sure why. The guy loved them though so that was good. I was kicking myself for doing so badly and taking so long to figure things out but watching this episode makes me feel much better and renews my resolve to learn all this. So thanks for posting this episode. Practicing more tomorrow to see why the metal was darker in places. Thanks for your channel. The guy that sold me my LaserStar Fiber Laser has not done anything to help me learn like he said he would. I appreciate you channel a lot.

Most welcome Ronald, it's okay to make mistakes. We mess stuff up all the time and we're learning new things every single day. No one is perfect, perfection is an illusion and learning an new skill or piece of equipment is difficult. Don't give up. The LE community always has your back if you need help.

Blower in gas kilns can do that sometimes.
Maybe just happened to be in a weird spot in the kiln.

Thanks, could have been better but the mugs were crappy I think I'll have to spend more next time.

Maybe inconsistency of ceramic OD or thickness?

Yeah I guess that's kind of what we did for cup attempt number three then that one seemed to come out the best.

Hey Alex, I was trying to follow this video and I got every step except I can't get my mug on to my rotary no matter how I try. Any ideas? 😔

The mousepad trick isn't working for you? You can try some craft foam with adhesive backing and try to stick it on the jaws to give you a better grip.

I was going to try a vacuum cleaner belt if I can find one the right size.

I also was hoping I would be able to use my rotary chuck to do glasses and beer mugs but broke my first test glass because one of my chucks teeth had fallen out prior to attempting thet and I didn't put it back in right so it was off. All three teeth didn't meet in the middle correctly. So I fixed that but haven't attempted it again. I'm just getting started with all this and trying not to spend so much getting all this working.

Why not buy an all-white mug, spray paint outside with black paint and laser the paint away?

I think you'd need something better than spray paint for it to be viable long term. Paints gonna wear really quick from a mug I'd imagine. Maybe powder coat?
